No, but it is pointing out there's chum in them there waters, and Fonzie's putting on his skis as we speak.

\not saying it's not a legitimate movement, just saying that it's getting into the "wrong kind of attention" phase pretty quickly....

FTA: "...when they asked him to walk out of the park with them to speak privately..."
No man, start a riot---you've got a bunch of bored hippies to back you up.

I bet this story gets picked-up as an attempt to discredit OWS, but the tactic will backfire. (since folks are tired of 'prohibition' on an innocuous plant)

I thought Oregon had some pretty lax laws around possession.

Maybe the intent to distribute changed things.

So someone gets arrested for possesion and while he reflects the kind of person that is being typified in all the 'Occupy' protests and your response is "Hey look over there something else is happening!"?

Does there really need to be a separate charge for this? Seems like 'intent to distribute' would cover it.

Repeat offender. (pops)

"In 1996, Timothy A. Soldani was convicted for driving under the influence after crashing his car through the yards of three houses. He served 2 days in jail.

In February 2000, Soldani was cited for driving under the influence. In March, he was cited again and his license was revoked.

On June 24, 2000, Soldani, driving drunk and without a license, hit a runner, Buffalo Zobel. Zobel had been training in an attempt to run the 26 mile marathon in under four hours, a prodigious athletic feat.

The crash broke both of Zobel's legs, fractured a bone in his back, separated a shoulder and left him with severe facial injuries. The driver, Soldani, fled, but was apprehended with pieces of Zobel's hair and skin embedded in the windshield of the car.

In January 2000, Soldani was convicted of second-degree assault and other charges and sentenced to 8 years and four months in prison.

Zobel is re-learning how to walk."

Mr Soldani was also arrested this June for driving on a suspended license. (pops)

A good group of people we've got at Occupy PDX.

A sex offender listing his address as the OWS "camp"? Check.

A serial criminal also in attendance? Check.

Massive violation of the city's anti-camping-on-public-parks ordinance? Check.

Over $20,000 dollars damage done to the park thus far? Check.

As to your last item: ALL the property in Portland is privately owned by the people they are protesting against, thus prolly NOT available for camping, or city-owned with a 'no camping' rule. Where else are they gonna peaceably assemble?

/Rallying at Zigzag might sound cool, but it wouldn't serve the purpose intended by the protesters.

It seems you mistake my political affiliation. Like the Tea Party, I see these folks as a bunch of extreme and unorganized screaming meemies. But unlike the Tea Party, it's not a bunch of rednecks with misspelled signs and threats of violence - it's a bunch of hipsters with MacBooks and keffiyehs making threats to do nothing and making ridiculous demands like 100% free college education and outlawing credit reporting agencies.

Surely then, you can see how the fridge loonies are always the ones that wind up on TV... almost as though by design. Some of the demands are (obviously) unreasonable. What I find even more unreasonable is that rather than ceding the point that the political system is broken, admitting that campaign finance and lobby reform is desperately needed, people like you would rather deride the whole movement as dirty hippies. End the fed, revoke corporate personhood, legislate to remove special interest money from politics; there are plenty of valid and tenable ideas, but for some reason you seem intent on focusing on the most outlandish in between slinging ad hominems...

Mikeyworld: As to your last item: ALL the property in Portland is privately owned by the people they are protesting against, thus prolly NOT available for camping, or city-owned with a 'no camping' rule. Where else are they gonna peaceably assemble?

Their rights end where others begin. Taking over parks indefinitely means others cannot use it. Trashing the parks means others have to pay for it. Our parks here close at midnight. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to break the rules. You don't have the right to unilaterally build a composting toilet in the middle of a park in DOWNTOWN Portland, as the OWS idiots have done.

Where else are they gonna peaceably assemble? They can peaceably assemble in the park, and go home when the parks close. Or go to a farking hotel. Oh, but wait, that's not cool or hip, and too mainstream.

Also, in Portland, we have a homeless population who think they're entitled to live wherever they want - the no-camping ordinance is intended to discourage them from living in parks. I like the ability to use the parks and not be challenged by some mentally-ill bum who thinks I'm trespassing in his 'home'. Now that the OWS folks defied the rules, they set a precedent for all the bums, who are now also setting up camps. We don't need that here.

Then you haven't been paying attention. They're not against capitalism, they're against corporate influence in politics, among other things. It does make them sound a lot scarier and easier to write off as a bunch of fringe kooks if we say they are against capitalism though, so good job. Keep repeating those talking points, and sooner or later maybe they'll stick.

There are some douchebags in the crowds, so all of their complaints are rendered completely invalid now and forever. Did you know that one of them pooped on a cop car!? That just proves that special interests should have MORE power over politicians instead of less!! I'm pretty sure that if we catch one more hippie whining about their student loans, the banks automatically get another taxpayer-funded bailout.

Let me see...more than half of the group are protesting the lack of employment, thus funds. Where is the money for hotel rooms coming from, Steve?

And they are only supposed to protest 9-5? Where did you go to protest school? Anger ain't living on a schedule that suits your sensibilities.

I agree that the homeless shouldn't get mixed in up in this, but a indigent person always looks for that one small opportunity. I doubt anybody from "Occupy Portland", an ad-hoc group with no real authority, nor leadership, gave then permission to camp. The homeless, like the jobless and the hopeless, are welcome to "Occupy Portland", as the name says. You really don't think the camping will continue after the group finds a job, do you?

And somebody recognized that the facilities at the park were gonna get over-whelmed by the crowd and helped to the city maintain order by erecting some extra lavatories. That upsets you?

Methinks thou doth protest too much. Fitting, considering the subject.

KPTV (Fox), KOIN (CBS) and KATU (Fisher/ABC) are very much against OWS for some reason. KGW (Belo/NBC) seems to be taking a neutral tone by comparison. Was funny watching the raw video from the Occupy Portland news conference with the mayor. KATU: "What about local businesses that have been complaining about the impact it's having on them?" Sam adams: "What impact? They're happy for the increase in business and haven't been complaining."
