I can confidently claim that this is the dumbest thing I've read on the internet today. Including my own posts.

I still prefer to name mine after generals from the war of northern aggression.

2011-10-19 04:54:49 AM
huh?

My friend named her two Vietnamese pot bellied pigs "Kevin" and "SirFrancis"

Does that count?

I have a cat that I found in the parking lot at work about 9 years ago. The office was located on Cameron Road at the time so the cat got named Cameron.

If I had a Maine Coon I'd name it Colonel Sanders.

My sister's landlord owns two sheep called haunch and cutlet. They will be slaughtered for Christmas, and after Christmas he will buy two new sheep and he will call them haunch and cutlet again, just as he had been doing it for years...

Our youngest cat is named Leonardo Da Kitti. Our sneezy old Manx cat is named Stewie, short for Stewart Smelly, because he's good enough, he's smart enough, and gosh darnit kitties like him.
Dog is named Chewie Rodriguez.

Most of the cats I meet in Japan are named Cream, Pudding or Tama. Dogs aren't much better. I swear, if I meet one more shiba ken named Shiro I will dorkstamp the owner.

I have friends who have a succession of dogs:

Otis
Oreo
Oscar
Wishbone
Sweetpea

If you count Otis as Otis Spunkmeyer and Oscar as Oscar Meyer, they have all been named after food. They did not name the last two, either.

Oreo is the coolest dog ever, BTW. English Bulldogs are the sweetest companion dogs one could possibly imagine.

We have had litters of kittens named after breakfast foods at the humane society. Its normally waffle, biscuit, pancake, flap jack. Depends on how many is in the litter.

/was so happy that a kitten was named Doctor Who one year.

One of mine is named after a drink: Mai Tai.

The other is named Birdie. For one, she squeaks and chirps like a bird. On the other hand, she's a highly effective hunter of doves. So I guess I named her after one of her favorite meals.

We nicknamed my mothers cat 'sausagecat' because she's got little legs and a long body... it's only a nickname, but it's stuck and we call her that sometimes when we try to remember her real name...

We can't think of anything else more fitting for the Primark shopping bag loving furry one who LOVES for me to get on the floor so she can roll about in my hair as though it were catnip.

Sausagecat seems appropriate. She's had that nickname now since my mother acquired her a year ago this week. Wouldn't be without her now... :-)

I had a friend with a cat named Pickles. Personally, I like when cats have old lady names but I suppose this food trend works as well.

Hubert frowns upon this nonsense! Mat would have also frowned but he had to go to kitty heaven five days ago. Sorry. I'm still sad. But Hubert still frowns upon this nonsense!

People are dumb.

My cats have been Chani, Hrissa, Corwin, Whizbang, Persephone, Ayla and Barney.

Not a food among them.

I've got a big black cat names for a character in a novel series I loved in high school (The Camulod Chronicles by Jack Whyte). Caius Merlyn Britannicus (Merlyn for short)

I've also got a little grey tabby who's the world's best hunter - Alexander the Great (called Sandy in daily conversation)

I found this comment to be especially amusing.

I have had cats named export, nipples, blue and xixi.

This is the sign of the porking of the UK. No wonder they name everything after food. It's the only thing that gives that slothful economy any joy. They all look like fat sausages squeezed into their chavwear of Burberry shirts and trousers.

On a tangential note, our cats are Thor Batman and Delenn Janeway*

*not their real names.

my kid's two cats are named Jenna and Bella. I call them IBK and Chunk. Itty Bitty Kitty is obviously a tiny thing, and Chunk is a massive muscular 18+ pounds. I like my names better.

I agree - but it takes a second mortgage to get one...

/Read the headline and immediately thought of enchiladas, tacos, and chorizo...

When I was a little kid, my Grandmothers cats were named for ice cream flavors. It's one of those things that help me remember that big old house.

I have an acquaintance who has a cat named Bacon Sandwich. My brother named his derpy cat Tabasco (Basco for short). My cat is Cadence, but I think the next time I get a pet I'll have to name it Baba Ghanoush.

TFA makes me think of some really awful Chinese take-out jokes....

I suppose I can't begrudge them those names though, with the weird ones that my hubby and I think up for our animals.

/had one cat (who thought she was a dog) named Pantera and one named Kokopelli
//we now have two dogs, Leiche and Fenrir

Our barn cat is named replacement cat, since he replaced another cat that the dogs ate.

In mammalian anatomy in college, my dissection cat was named dinner.

Had a stray kitty that came around the work site at lunch time for our scraps.
t3.gstatic.com
Of course, we named the cat 'Lunch'. We'd even wait for him sometimes.

The neighbors finally asked us why we were calling to the cat, 'C'mere, Lunch.
Lunch, food!'

I just held up a foot long screw driver, motioned with it like a skewer and pointed to the heater.

Neighbors didn't bother us much more after that.

I have an orange and white cat and entertained several names of sweets and such for her. Shelter name stuck. Next cat was gray, named Loki. Pics in profile.

You're going to name your next cat after an MXC contestant?

Ninja and Yuurei frown on your shenanigans

/ Ninja was named for climbing up behind a bed right against the wall silently at night and pouncing on her first humans in their sleep
// Ninja's (supposedly-neutered) father was named "Sir Squishington Soggybottoms the Third"
/// I had nothing to do with either name, but Squish is my neighbour's cat now and he is quite awesome, apparently-potent

Amazing how a title can influence ownership decisions. When we used to foster kittens, we would get a new batch all pre-named something ridiculous. Jasper and Milk Curd, a pair of tan and cream boys, were promptly re-named Beavis and Butthead, and were adopted within the week by a family with pre-teens. Two tiny black females came to us named Martini and Vermouth. Re-named Lilith and Spooky, they were adopted by two separate stereotypes. Then again, nobody wanted Clyde. He was such a Clyde. We kept him until his bowel disease got the better of him. Enjoy kitty heaven Clyde, but damn did you smell bad.

We had a cat named Cotton Candy...she was all all white. Dad hit her with the car so she was cross-eyed most of her life. Pitiful pewty!

Our Kung Pao Kitty is 3 years old. We didn't name her that to be trendy, just humorous.

I apologize to anyone that want's to stab their eardrums with a q-tip after this, but it's all I could hear after reading your post. And may he have plenty of mice, or whatever he preferred to chase, in kitty heaven. I like to think my fuzzball Pantera has all the hummingbirds she could ever want.

One of my cats is named Skittles, so I'm getting a kick...

My big black cat is named Wiley after Wile E Coyote. Given the fact that he likes to lie on me while I'm sleeping and is hard to kick off the bed, I've taken to calling him Singularity lately.

2011-10-19 06:33:30 AM
I have a stray that is slowly adopting me. He started off as Prince but has slowly become Handsome Boy.
I also have the neighbor's cat (a male), that is so pretty, I'm calling him Princess.
