Well... that's another bar set too high.

/so awesome

I hope they're sterile.

The further you scroll, the better it gets.

Only thing that bothers me is the registry information card with the invitation.

You know... I read headlines like that, and I'm prepared to be disappoint.

But that... was incredible. As advertised. Wow.

2011-10-19 02:42:04 AM
Awesome. I guess that's legal?

Congratulations!

You chose beef!

This is when I knew it was a winner.

I wonder if they invited some to the reception only. Did it say, "the princess is in another castle"?

That bride is hideous, if the card is to be believed.

You'd 8-hit it.

yeah,, that was pretty damned cool, actually.

2011-10-19 04:04:18 AM
The reception had better feature a six-firework salute.

I definitely would NOT hit it. Just look at those sharp pixels. She is way below my standards.

Why the hell would you include directions in this day and age?

Haha I can imagine instead of "Here comes the Bride" Dah dah dahdah, it would be the underground theme doodo doodo do do.
These invites are sweet. I'd probably go with a Zelda/Link theme myself.

Newsflash: Relatives in their 60s and 70s often come to weddings, and may be familiar with Google Maps, smart phones, or turn-by-turn directions.

/welcome to reality
//and yes, those relatives likely won't understand the invite at all, save for the directions

Can't wait for the part of the ceremony with the giant flying ship firing cannons.

I have friends who are nerds (my wife and I are too) who are getting married. They've gone excessively overboard with the cheap crap to try and be nerdy.

We avoided stuff like that for our wedding.

The stuff in TFA is really well done.

2011-10-19 08:13:32 AM
Very nice indeed. I really hope that they didn't use the gold coins as free drink tokens, cause anything than an open bar is a sin of epic proportions..

Also hopefully the Groom's after wedding went better than Mario's

I don't know she looks like a real peach to me.

Thats awesome! Brings back so many memories of playing that.

But does that mean that if he goes to the wrong church or she stands him up... Toad will be there to tell him that "The Bride is in another Castle"

Quasar: Awesome. I guess that's legal?

For my wedding, I did up this intricate picture of Luigi and Daisy getting married (I always preferred Luigi, and the body types were more accurate) for a groom's cake. Nothing fancy, it was just going to be a simple photo-transfer cake, to go next to our main wedding cake.

A few days before the wedding, I took the picture to Kroger. They signed off, said the cake would be ready at 10am the day of the wedding.

9:30 that morning, I get an irate phone call from the baker on duty, saying he can't make the cake, and I was completely out of line asking him to do so. Since I'm getting into my tux, and really don't care that much about the cake, I tell him to go f*ck himself. Had they told me that when I left the picture, it wouldn't have been any problem, but thinking he could ride his little power trip at the last moment rubbed me the wrong way.

not for nothing but your first mistake was asking kroger to do your wedding cake. i mean they are fine for birthday cakes but for something like that you should have went to a real bakery. hope all worked out tho.

Absolutely. The wedding cake, done by an actual bakery, was awesome. The top tier was even edible a year after being frozen.....

For the Groom's Cake, it was more of an after thought. I asked a few people, most had either gotten an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen, or some type of "novelty" cake from Wal*Mart/Kroger/etc. We usually get birthday cakes from Kroger, and there was one close to the church, so I thought it'd be safe.

I just sent the link to my fiancee. She's a graphic designer and wants to do the whole DIY route for the invites, placeholders, etc. I think I may have made a grave mistake in sending that link...

Cool. A woman dorky enough to permit that, you HAVE to marry her.

Having the ceremony a the Long Beach Museum of Art is also kick ass.

/Will there be mushrooms at the reception?

Nerds.

2011-10-19 10:10:17 AM
That was cool as hell, but wedding shiat is bad enough. I don't think geeks need to get involved in the giant pissing contest. This will all end in tears in a Darth Vader mask, mark my words.

I ♥ this so much. It brings a misty tear to my nerdy eyes.

Wasn't there someone who hacked an engagement request into a video game and when his girlfriend got a score above something it popped the question?

Are two children getting married or something?

because there is still about 30% of the population that are fairly computer illiterate or may have no internet access at all.

"The details and nods to the original video game are impeccable."

Oh yeah?

- The color palettes for the bride and groom on Level 1-1 are impossible on actual NES hardware
- The font isn't monospaced
- A bloo bloo bloooo

He didnt hack Portal 2. He hired the design team to make 5 levels for his girlfriend with GlaDOS actually asking her to marry him. Yes, I think that goes far beyond this. But it is also in a different class. This is invites. That was an actual proposal.

Although that one was fantastic, my favorite is still the Chrono Trigger proposal.

Havent seen that one yet. Ive heard of it on that thread about the Portal 2 proposal. Is there a video posted about it?

I'm making my own invitations. If I had the budget to do that I would in a heartbeat.

I saw a thread about the Chrono one, though I could have sworn there was one that was a phone game (bejeweled, maybe). I wasn't aware of the Portal one. I would think doing certain things with .nes files and text would be not too difficult. Even palette or sprite modifications would be doable, the only thing is your potential spouse would have to be fairly geeky to be playing things in an emulator. Wouldn't work for an invite.

If you wanted to get really crafty with an NES hack you could actually burn the rom to a cart and present them with the cart.

Sometimes subtle nods go over better. My husband and I had really goofy friends, who suggested everything from storm trooper groomsmen to lego themed cakes. One friend dared us to play porn bass funk when I walked down the aisle.

I chose to walk down the aisle to some romantic music with lots of violin and piano... from a lesbian porn. No bass, so none of the stodgier relatives were tipped off, but the friend in question laughed his ass off when we told him where the music came from.

/We also wound up sitting at the kid's table for most of the reception, since the grown-ups were no fun.
