Oh you were finished? Well allow me to retort! Avoiding fights with the Boston Bruins will only temporarily suspend your ass-kicking. Eventually they will get you. They will throw away a 2-1 game just to f*ck you up. Beware, because we're Stanley-Cup-Hungover and we just don't give a f*ck.

Ugh... What a cluster fark of a game that was. Gleason's a little biatch, but the Bruins should know better. Just an all around embarrassing display, in my opinion.

When it turned into amateur hour and folks started throwing stuff on the ice, I went to bed.

Hopefully, they get their shiat together soon, but it is hard to get too worked up about shiatty play after last season.

I guess even Julien got in on the action with a game misconduct of his own. *facepalm*

On a plus side, I totally enjoyed being in Chicago for the game on Saturday. Never been to the United Center before. Nice barn they got out there. With the exception of a couple of drunken jackasses sitting behind us who were heckling us for most of the first period (until they got ejected by security), everyone we met was awesome. It was funny meeting so many 'Hawks fans who like the Bruins as the 'Hawks are my favorite Western Conference team.

Go Bruins!

It was named after Pulitzer's newspaper, The World. Dunno why they never found a new sponsor after The World ceased to be though.

We're gonna play a cute little road game, punch you in the head and stick you, then refuse to drop the gloves when it's time. It's ok because the memo out this week is that Jay Beagle causes brain injury, so every linesman is in a scrum like an octopus and Devo is handing out 10's like Pez.

I'm (obviously) no Caps fan, but not winning the Cup does not equal sucking. Regardless of the zero Cups, it's pretty hard to argue that the Caps have sucked the past few years.

I realize I'm not being fun here. But this is why we can't have nice things when it comes to sports discussions. It bothers me.

Yeah, I hate the strategy, but it worked for 'em last night. Bruins got frustrated and took some stupid penalties. The high stick on Chara was a little weak... didn't look like his stick ever touched the 'Cains' player.

They were hanging in there until the Horton/Gleason incident. Bruins lost their composure and it cost them the game.

But the ultimate goal is championships. No one will remember that the 2009 Capitals had a nice season. They will remember that they weren't the champions. I was using a bit of hyperbole about the Caps but the point stands.

That game last night was uuuugly, ugly, ugly. I'm all for old-time hockey, but don't get baited into stupid penalties! Especially right after you get a little boost from a much needed goal. You're not the f*ckin Charleston Chiefs, you're the defending Stanley Cup Champions!

We've been over this. Even setting aside the "World newspaper" bit, it's legitimately the world championship because MLB is the highest level of baseball play in the world and the best players from all corners of the globe play in it.

Granted, it really only enjoys popularity in North America and east Asia, and I would love to see annual competitions between the MLB champs and the NPB, KPB champs, but the point stands.

St. Lawrence University. Unfortunately I never got to see him play in a Saints sweater, as I graduated the year before he arrived. Random fact: Although SLU is a pretty solid hockey school generally (although very small) Peverley is the first ever grad to win the Cup as a player. We've had a few grads win the Cup as coaches or front office staff, but no players until Peverley.

It took the sport a generation to recover from the cancellation of the 1994 World Series due to a player's strike led by hardline union head Donald Fehr.

Either I'm six generations old, or this one is a bit of a stretch. Didn't baseball recover in the early 2000s with the home-run race?

Of all the teams in the division, Buffalo is looking the best right now, in my opinion... Still way early in the season, of course, but there's a lot of talent on that team and they're clicking together at the moment.

Time Traveling Bunnies: So.... apparently Boston melted down last night. What happened?

Eh... Boston got behind early. Ward was standing on his head. 'Cains were getting under the Bruins' skin and frustrating the hell out of them. It eventually boiled over, and the Bruins took a bunch of stupid penalties and gave up two PP goals in the third. It just got worse from there with over 60 minutes in penalties for the Bs with Julien eventually getting the heave ho.

keylock71: Of all the teams in the division, Buffalo is looking the best right now, in my opinion...

Actually, they looked like shiat for most of the game last night, but still managed the win in Montreal because Miller stood on his head.

Didn't look so good against Carolina either. Sabres have some things they need to work on. Their newly-fashioned (and highly-touted) defense is trying too hard to generate offense. They're forcing it sometimes, and it's resulting in a lot of neutral zone and defensive zone giveaways.

Should be an interesting division this year. The only team that will truly be out of it is Ottawa.

In all seriousness the whole everyone from Alberta is a redneck loser is a load of crap. I don't think it's all that strange. Major League scouts bring in players from all over the world. The best of the best players are here or are trying to get here. People all over the world follow the U.S. teams. Around 27% of the players are born outside the US (Googled it, several articles put it between 27 and 28% for the last few years. That seems to include Puerto Rico so that's arguable, but it's only major league rosters, so it doesn't include the numbers on minor league teams)

The point is if you look at it from the perspective of where the players come from and the fact that the best players are in the US it can be considered a "World Series".

That's a modern-day rationalization.

It was called a World Series a century ago when all the players were Americans. Your reasoning didn't apply back then, and certainly wasn't part of the deliberation.

The fact of the matter is, it's called the World Series because of decades of tradition. That's its name. That's always been its name. It doesn't need to be justified just because some people from countries that don't care about baseball anyway get their panties in a bunch about it.
