Indeed...what is this "leftover beer" concept and why does it leave me feeling vaguely....ill?

Ben & Jerry's put out a Black & Tan ice cream a while back. It was pretty tasty.

Not against making a beer ice cream. But GLB is sucky-ass beer with good promotion.

That'll go great with chocolate covered bacon.

MMMMMMMMM beer, bacon, chocolate. MMMMMMMMM

But like others posting, I wonder about this "leftover beer" That means it was not consumed. What kind of beer is not consumed?

Aside from the "leftover beer" problem which has been covered, beer ice cream sounds pretty shiatty. I'd prefer the two in separate containers.

Perhaps the brewery could not fill orders for kegs, due to the economy. Perhaps they didn't obtain enough bottles or brewed too much. Perhaps they just realized they were going to make more money, and obtain more marketing, by selling the beer for ice cream as opposed to squeezing a few more pennies out by marketing the hell out of it to bars a distance away from town?

All I know is, I have a $2 coupon for Guinness Black Lager or Guinness. I will definitely be using it.

GLBC Reviews (new window)

Love me some great lakes. Currently living in Kazakhstan, and (good god the shiat that passes as beer here) can't wait to get back home and crack open a dort in a few months

Their is only one byproduct that comes from beer that I can think of, and it's not ice cream.

Damn...

I left/escaped Cleveland a few months ago to move to Holland where we have good beer, but one of the few things I still miss about the city is the Great Lakes Brewery. Incredible place with great beers, and the city population's more than passing obsession with the Christmas Ale is rather well founded. I guarantee this ice cream will sell well.

Trick tho about the Christmas Ale is the recipe changes each year a bit. So while I really liked the one two years ago I wasn't as big a fan of this past year's.

This. Specifically the recipe part. Two years ago, drinking a Christmas Ale was like drinking pure crack laced with sugar and cinnamon while Jesus punched my most hated enemy in the face. Last year, it was only like drinking nicotine. It was good, but I broke the mental need for it in three days.

Second year of a Masters program, first year of which was at the University of Glasgow and the second at the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics, and Strategic Research. Originally from Cleveland, nearby it anyway (Perry), and I will stand by Great Lakes Brewing Company any day of the week. Nothing like going down to the west side market on to pick up some tasty olives and stopping by the GLBC brewpup for spicy mustard and pretzels before the drive home.

Wow, that is... decidedly different for a Clevelander. And awesome.

I miss the West Side Market. Not to say that there aren't cool markets here, but the fact that it was indoors had huge sway for me on bad weather days- nothing better than taking a break to get a bratwurst roll and going up onto the balcony to eat it by sitting above the radiator and people watching. Unless you went to the cupcake place for a red velvet. Then stopped off by GLB on the way back.

"Leftover" Great Lakes Christmas Ale? That shiat's gone the second it hits the shelves.

A friend of mine had a six of GLBC lager a coworker bought on a whim and hated it so he gave it to him. I finished it for him - pretty good stuff I thought.

GLB is indeed great beer. Miss it, since I moved to Florida. Anyone who doesn't like it is more than likely a Natty Light fanboy.

So is it ice cream flavored beer or beer flavored ice cream? I can't imagine either being very good. Just because I like them both, doesn't mean I want them all mixed together.

Hey has anybody mentioned yet that leftover beer = you're doing it wrong.

Andromeda: and the city population's more than passing obsession with the Christmas Ale is rather well founded.

christmas ale has been amazing the past couple of years. whitey's breaks out a couple of kegs on 6/25 every year and it goes in a couple hours.

the thing that pisses me off in general about great lakes? it's considered a farking import. i realize cleveland can be considered a different country to some...but sheesh. an 'import' that's brewed an hour away?

I can't decide which makes me sicker. Beer ice cream or "leftover beer".

/is that like when you forget where you left your beer and don't find it for a week?

Great Lakes rules. One of the best Ohio breweries. I miss it in my horrible exile. This is a beer wasteland out here. I hate this place.

They aren't imports anymore. They're "premium beers".

Coors Lite maybe? I as well am frightened and confused by this bizarre word combination.

Yeah, whenever I have occasion to drive back to Ohio, I do try to pick up at least a few twelve packs of the Great Lakes Dortmunder. Near as I can tell, you just plain can't get it on the East Coast. Sigh.

(At least there's other good breweries within the surrounding couple states to ease the pain...)

Although the idea of this is pretty cool, the actual result sounds rather icky.

Leftover beer is what remains in the processing equipment after a bottling run.

\thankful they didn't mention used beer.

I figured leftover beer was the bits left in the bottoms of the bottles and cans after you have a party, because either the person put their drink down and forgot about it, or they passed out before they could finish it.
You find leftover beer in the morning, pour it all in to one cup and have it warm for breakfast.
