I wonder if people just try to provoke famous people so that they can sue them later.

So someone shouldn't be arrested for a slap on the head? Please, let me slap you...

Maybe you should drive: Nadie_AZ: Arrested. For a slap on the head.

Please. If you were allowed to just slap any random celebrity/sports figure whenever you wanted with no consequences then EVERYONE would do it ALL the time.

Man, good thing it wasnt Jay Cutler getting slapped. He have had to leave the table and go ride an excersise bike for the rest of the evening.

Good on Devin for not taking the bait this low-life who was probably losing rent money threw his way.

I say make an example of the jackass.

And you better not even THINK about going near my man Cam. Panther nation will fark you up boy.

Well, if there weren't consequences I can definitely think of a few celebrity/sports figures who would meet the back of my hand. The point is that there are consequences. That's what I hope this fool realizes.

You're right. Any dickhead who would just walk up behind a stranger and whack them in the head needs something else besides arresting. I say castrate the bastard.

I'm know fan of da bears, but at least Hester didn't try to settle scores himself or via a posse. I suspect the NFL gives guidelines on how to deal with provocations from the public. Good on him for dealing with it through channels.

That said, go Pack

basemetal: I wonder if people just try to provoke famous people so that they can sue them later.

Of course, but I rather doubt that happened in this case.

Devin Hester is (according to Wikipedia) 5' 11" and 190 pounds. Out of uniform, he's probably pretty anonymous unless he walks around with a shirt that says "I'M DEVIN HESTER."

That's when a second teller window opened up, and the teller motioned Hester over. However, an elderly couple had been waiting in line longer -- and Rago said his "parental instincts" kicked in.

A the old White Knight defense.

Looks racist as well... douchebag likely assumed "I must defend this elderly couple against a young black thug they might be scared of, using the massa-pat-the-black-boy-on-the-head manuever".

Hey, old photo. Last year he underwent a re-imaging. Specifically, he cut his hair to promote a more responsible lifestyle now that he has a kid. Becoming a father can change things...and if it starts with cutting his hair, then more power to him.

Yeah, sounds like Hester dealt with it like a normal member of society. A lot of NFL (and NBA, and MLB) players could take a lesson from him.

Why does the headline say he was assaulted? Assault means that you had the fear of imminent battery. Since he was hit in the back of the head, he didn't know he was going to be battered, therefore assault doesn't apply in this case. The story itself even says he was arrested for battery, not "assault' or "assault and battery". Fail article is fail.

So you are upset that an internet news article doesn't have all it's facts right?

That's so cute.

Rago would have gotten away, but he tried to do three somersaults after the hit and hit a drink cart.

The Packers have male cheerleaders? Why am I just learning this now? So many taunting opportunities wasted.

2011-10-19 12:02:16 PM
This guy got off lucky. If he had done this to Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, the NFL would personally fine the man $50,000 for roughing the passer and unsportsmanlike conduct on top of being arrested.

Now he'll never get the return record, especially if ESPN keeps inventing new ones.

I think they use cheerleaders from local high schools and colleges instead of professional ones.

I like how we went from 'Return TDs' (Kickoff/Punt) to 'Any Form of Return TD' (Fumble/Interception/Kickoff/Punt) just so we could keep talking about how close Hester is to 'breaking the record'.

The Slush: I think they use cheerleaders from local high schools and colleges instead of professional ones

The Bears don't even do that. Of course, TMQ notes that the Bears got rid of their cheerleaders in 1986 or so and haven't won the Super Bowl since.

It's not like the Packers fans need signs to know that after the "dun dun pew, da dun dun dun" they're supposed to yell GO PACK GO though. I think if you played that to a patient in a coma in Green Bay they'd probably wake up to say GO PACK GO and then go right back into the coma, it's an involuntary response amongst the cheeseheads.

Probably to gamble, since he's in the cashier line.
