It is the horse industry's dirty little secret. The race horse that didn't place well enough one day can be a meal in Japan 7 days later. It isn;t just the racing industry though. I gave it a chance. It's a damned macguffin quest cartoon with annoying characters and blatant shameless attempts to appeal to meme-hungry internet goers. I refuse to believe Derpy Hooves and Doctor Whooves were unintentional.

To be fair, most of the episodes are slice of life. Only the season openers so far have been quest episodes.

And Derpy and the "Doctor" are just things the fandom came up with. Derpy was an animation gag in the very first episode that 4chan seized and ran with like Dick Lane. True, the animators responded by sneaking her into more episodes (and now the opening), but she started as just a studio injoke. Doctor Whooves is just a brown pony with a hourglass mark who people say looks like David Tennant. In the show proper, he's just been used as a background character, with nothing that suggests that he is actually "The Doctor".
