"How did we single these out? All were produced and set in North America"

of course the 3 that immediately popped into my head, but didn't meet that asinine criteria are already covered in the article's comments:

The Flying Scotsman
The Triplets of Belleville
The Bicycle Thief

any of which have more to do with bicycles than E.T.. but again, they weren't produced and set in North America.

stupid criteria makes stupid list stupid.

calbert: stupid criteria makes stupid list stupid.

Indeed. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? Really?

2011-10-18 06:27:13 PM
The list is bullshiat without The Bicycle Thief.

Ignoring the site's North American restriction, there were bicycles in City of God and Life is Beautiful, too, and I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that BOTH of them are better than Rad. The Wizard of Oz is probably better than Rad, too.

That's a calculated risk, I know.

It might not be a bicycle movie, per se, but that "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" scene is memorable all the same.

Here's one. It's not a movie as such, just a video. And there's no plot, no actors, not much of anything... except some really cool downhill stunt biking.

2011-10-18 07:37:34 PM
In other news, someone can name 10 bicycle movies.

Peter Yates was an awesome director, rent "The Friends Of Eddie Coyle" and The Dresser" immediately if not sooner.

" Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)" Not a bicycle movie

" E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)" Not a bicycle movie.

THIS (new window) is a cycling movie

Author is an ignorant poser ass-hat.

LOL.

It's got a bicycle in it so it's a bicycle movie.

Fark me.

I watched 127 hours. That had a bike scene in it. Hence, awesome bicycle movie!

Dear Jerk: List is fail without A Sunday In Hell, but since this is North America only, list is fail with American Flyers.

American Flyers (1985)

This powerful film tells the story of two brothers, David (David Marshall Grant) and Marcus (Kevin Costner), who face the possibility of developing a crippling hereditary brain disease. Realizing they may not have much time left, they decide to embark on a cross-country journey to a bicycle race in Colorado.

Man, I'm glad to see Rad on that list. Now I just want to see the movie again. Or maybe I shouldn't. I'd hate to destroy my childhood ideal of that being an awesome movie (excuse me, a rad movie) by watching it again, only to find out that it actually sucks.

Came here for this. I guess it didn't qualify since it was an Australian movie. But early Nicole Kidman should get this one on the list.

Dear Jerk: List is fail without A Sunday In Hell, but since this is North America only, list is fail with American Flyers.

American Flyers is a good movie, it's also a primer for watching stage races like the Tour de France.
