Caturday?

2011-10-18 05:32:09 PM
Ha! I told the wife it was a Maine Coon.

2011-10-18 05:32:12 PM
Awesome that both kitties walked away unhurt. The cougar was lucky

2011-10-18 05:32:36 PM
I'm not sure if that's dumb or just smart to grab the camera instead of the cat and get it away from taunting the mountain lion.

I generally find it wisest not to taunt wildlife especially if the have big teeth and claws or of course if they're primates with explosives.

2011-10-18 05:32:46 PM
Holy shiat, it's a lion! I'll stay here. You go get the car.

Somebody feed that mountain lion a sammich, you can see its ribs

2011-10-18 05:34:02 PM
Did you see that cat? Because it is awesome!

2011-10-18 05:34:36 PM
At first I thought it was the angle of the camera shot that made the indoor kitty look huge. Then sure enough I read it was a Main Coon. Thatza huge cat.
Very cool pics indeed. I couldn't tell if the hind leg was hurt or not.

Thanks, subby. Well worth going through the slide show. Going to be one of those annoying people that sends this to friends and relatives! They won't mind, though - we're all cat lovers. (:

"There was this cat four feet away from me!" Loveman recalled during an interview Tuesday."

Yes, your cat Zeus, we've already covered that.

Was the Boulder cat in Boulder though?

Wonder if those two are going to hook up later on down the road, have some really interesting housecats out of the deal. Maybe a 50lb main coon that tends to eat small children.

shiat I want one.....

If any housecat is going to be a match for a mountain lion it'd be a Maine Coon. We had one that weighed in at about 25 lbs. She'd habitually beat the crap out of our Australian Shepherd with her declawed* meathooks for kicks.

*found her that way, I'm not necessarily for declawing myself.

Maine Coon cats are awesome. Very personable, friendly, and beastly-looking.

Much as I like cats, I really don't think a housebound Maine Coon would be much of a match for a wild lion, unless he had a gun or something

MAINE COON THREAD!!! Seriously, I've never been a cat person, but I'm forever grateful for the two Maine Coons that found their way to me.

Ah, good memories. I had a Maine Coon; they seem to be fearless. She loved all people, but hated any other animal. She would stare down dogs and even chase those that were within about 10 lbs of her (she was 20 lbs). When we moved into a new house, though, she tried to open and climb out a window to confront a wandering pit bull. I'm pretty sure, as tough as she was, that would not have gone well for her. We kept a pretty close eye on her after that.

moops: Maine Coon cats are awesome. Very personable, friendly, and beastly-looking.

My cat Beavis's dad was a Maine Coon and mom was an American Bombay. So I have a 16 pound and extremely long short haired black cat who puts my legs to sleep when he lays on my lap. He rocks.

I was thinking the same thing. That cougar looks skinny and a maybe too young to be on it's own.

Jizz Master Zero: MAINE COON THREAD!!! Seriously, I've never been a cat person, but I'm forever grateful for the two Maine Coons that found their way to me.

My experience with a couple of Maine Coons leaves me unsurprised by this. Maine Coons are not brave. In fact, they're a bit cowardly. But they are incredibly, unbelievably stupid. They take the Short Bus to Cat School. Given a comfy, spacious low chair or couch and a seven-foot-tall bookshelf with various rough objects on top of it and virtually no open room, the Maine Coon will choose the top of the bookshelf to attempt to rest on. One of my former girlfriend's Maine Coons was a purebred, former show cat, named Sammy. He was dazzlingly beautiful. And had not one atom of brain in his head. He was a throw cat. You know, like a throw pillow. Didn't like him where he was? Just pick him up and drape him on the back of the couch, or the TV, or wherever you wanted. He'd stay there, staring with his sad, brainless look into space.

The Maine Coon in this link probably thought...well, nothing. They are incapable of thought.

I love bad ass-cats.

Our cat, Juniper, is part Maine Coon (according to two vets we've had). He's got a lot of the same personality characteristics of a Maine Coon and is massive in size compared to most cats, but we lucked out and he ended up with shorter hair than a Maine Coon. (Don't let the picture fool you, his hair is a lot longer than it looks and he still sheds like a mother farker.) He is 12 years old in this picture. He also has mild hip dysplasia as well, which our vet says is common with larger breed cats. He kind of has the raccoon markings on his tail but it isn't fluffy like a maine coon's should be. (I'd hate to think how big he'd be -- omg all the hair! -- if he were full blooded.)

a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net

The kitty next to him (RIkku) is 2.5 years old and about 1/3 his size. And that is an oversized, single seat recliner they are lounging in.

Juniper = biggest pussy known to man...
Rikku = She'll kick your ass 8 ways to Sunday and then prance on your grave while holding her head high doing it.

So picture in question was a very rare moment.

Back to the article tho.... looks like that poor mountain lion needs a sandwich... or an annoying cat. :(

As would my tortie. She will run to the sliding glass door when there is a strange cat or strange human out there but then she goes and runs under the couch or something.

OMG THIS. This describes my cat Juniper to a T. He is so unbelievably stupid. I will give him credit though, when I say "out" to him when he gets somewhere where he's not supposed to be or in our room and on our bed before we're getting there, I'll say "out" and he moves. He doesn't listen to anyone else BUT me. Other nicknames for Juniper in our house:

Little Retarded Baby
Retard
Dipshiat
Stupid Head
DERP

And other combinations there of. He's a sweet cat but he has this 1000 yard DERP stare that makes your wonder if the 2 brain cells in his head are chasing their tails.

I still love him to death tho.

Looked like the cougar was with his mama in one of the later shots. Probably just skinny because he's growing.

I like the disparate attitudes.

Cougar: I am gonna CUT YEW!

Kitty: Retard who doesn't how glass works says what?

2011-10-18 06:15:28 PM
I'm guessing it was the lifesize cougar sex toy in the back yard that attracted them.

Here is ours, none too pleased that I just woke her up to snap this pic. She has all of her claws, and can be very nasty when she wants to be.

But that mountain lion would send her running for the hills.
