What is this a follow up from again? The moment of their god damn birth? These two biatches are always upset.

I liked Oasis better when they were called The Beatles.

He says Oasis is a sham?

Is he angry about being kicked out of Jimmy Pursey's Big British Eyebrow Club?

Didn't know Noel had a solo album out. I'll give it a whirl. Liam's voice aside, he pretty much was Oasis ... and for all the bashing people do of them, they were a solid, straight-ahead rock and roll band with some good hooks. Not the stuff of legend by any means, but they had some fine tunes. Noel was a good (if formulaic) songwriter.

who cares, don't know their music but they seem to be better known for not getting along than their musical output

Can someone clarify the meaning of this phrase? "All this effing and blinding"

weirdneighbour: they seem to be better known for not getting along than their musical output

In North America, maybe. Worldwide they were pretty huge. Sold something like 70 million records worldwide and pretty much every record went top 10 all over the place.

Doesn't mean they're good, of course -- popularity doesn't mean quality -- just that they definitely had a very strong music career before breaking up.

Guns n Roses was a "straight-ahead rock and roll band". Oasis was a collection of whiny British biatches.

What does he have for sale. Book or album?

2011-10-18 04:19:06 PM
Every now and then they like to pretend they are Ray and Dave Davies.

Ran across this before, it's an expression for cursing or swearing. Effing in place of farking, blinding in place of "blimey".

I don't really get the second part, though supposedly "blimey" has it's origin in "blind me" or "God blind me".

I'm confused, is Liam the one with the Willy Wonka Prince Valiant haircut or the wannabe Beatle?

Yep, British expression. "Blimey" is supposedly a contraction from "Cor blimey" (sometimes "Gor blimey"), which in turn was originally "God blind me". It's a bit anachronistic in that "blimey" is considered so mild these days that you can say it in front of children, maiden aunts, or on the BBC before 9pm, but the expression lives on.

The closest American expression would be "dropping F-bombs", I guess.

New album is good ("Stop the Clocks" is on par with "Masterplan") and he's almost finished a second album as well (spring/summer 2012 according to Noel).

Swearing. effing is exactly what you think. Blinding, well, Blind... it's the beginning of many old cussin' phrases, or so I've been told.

I'd hate to see how these little prissy douchebags would act if they had to dig ditches for $30K a year like the rest of us. Or get up at 6:00AM 5 days a week and work for someone that treats you like a dirtbag because you should be honored to have a job.

There are plenty of much more talented musicians playing street corners for change. To be sure, Oasis is a good band and they write a lot of great stuff. But there was a lot of luck involved in making it big. These are the same guys who probably claim that no luck is involved - they could do it all over again if they had to. Which I'm assuming means, being born in Somalia or some other shiathole wouldn't make any difference.

The fact that these guys continue to breath while Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, and Kurt Cobain are dead proves there is no God. Or God has a sick sense of humor.

A sham like they cobbled together songs from pieces of Beatles and Rolling Stones songs? We already know that right?

If any of them were alive today, there's a good chance that they would suck just as much as Paul McCartney or Eric Clapton does today.

I liked their "brothers fighting" motif better when they were called The Kinks.

It's pretty difficult to suck as much as Paul McCartney. Hendrix would have had to have a stroke and turn into a white dude.

Noel was more right only one time, when he said he should have let the band stayed broken up before What's The Story Morning Glory, released the album as a solo act, and not had to split the money 4 ways.

Liam contributed less than any front man in history to the success of his very popular band.

If only they had opened up and written some songs about how it felt to be abandoned by their father when they were young maybe they would've worked their problems out

InmanRoshi: I liked every modern pop rock band better when they were called the Beatles.

Yeah, this complaint is more than just lazy -- it's mostly a matter of people just repeating what they've heard from others -- it's kind of stupid, really. Have they nicked from the Beatles and Stones? Yes, of course they have, just like hundreds upon hundreds of other bands. The Beatles and Stones are two of the biggest, most influential bands ever. Of COURSE future pop rock acts will nick from them.

Not like Oasis have shied away from it or pretended they invented the music. They've worn it on their sleeve. "Hey, we love these guys. We want to be as big and cool as them."

Yet they rarely ever sounded outright like they were riffing on the Beatles. Oddly, this was more frequent at the end of their career long after the accusation became stale. Early on, virtually never. Often, when they did, it was with a knowing wink and nod, like opening "Don't Look Back In Anger" with the piano riff "Imagine" and referencing Lennon in the song.

Later, when Liam started writing songs, that's when the Beatles influence came on strong. He wrote songs like "Songbird" and "Born on a Different Cloud" that were pretty brazen.

But again, that came almost 10 years after the line had gotten stale. About the closest they came on early records were things like "She's Electric" or the non-album song "Whatever."

And, of course, the Stones and the Beatles in turn were quite frank about their influences, including R&B and skiffle.

The whole thing is as stupid as saying "I liked the Jam better when they were called the Who."
