The CDC considers "four or five alcoholic beverages consumed on one occasion" to be binge drinking. How can it be a binge if I do it every day?

I'm with you Subby. When I travel to the south I get raised eyebrows from the locals when I have 3 with dinner. I have to remind the waitress that I am from Wisconsin and I'm considered a light drinker.

From the CDC site FAQ:
What is binge drinking?
According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism binge drinking is defined as a pattern of alcohol consumption that brings the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level to 0.08% or more. This pattern of drinking usually corresponds to 5 or more drinks on a single occasion for men or 4 or more drinks on a single occasion for women, generally within about 2 hours.3

If that is the case then I have been binge drinking my entire adult life.

Oh, and from the same FAQ:
What do you mean by heavy drinking?
For men, heavy drinking is typically defined as consuming an average of more than 2 drinks per day. For women, heavy drinking is typically defined as consuming an average of more than 1 drink per day.
If that is the typical definition of heavy drinking, I think that every farker needs to report to the Betty Ford Clinic ASAP!

The CDC if farking useless and completely ineffective when they pull shiat like this. It makes them look like they live in the family sitcom universe where 2 beers gets you cross-eyed, staggering hammer-assed drunk.

It's binge drinking or no drinking for this guy. Hell, I get a shot of tequila with my first beer at happy hour. I call it a "kickstart". Three beers sucks. Just the tip of a buzz, and enough to make it hard to sleep. It's none or six+ for me.

No, 4-5 drinks in 2 hours is just 'drinking'. .08% BAC is a buzz, maybe, not a binge. But this is what you get when you let anti-drinkers define binge drinking.

Or maybe this thread is full of a lot of people who are too dumb to understand that there are long-term consequences to negative behaviors that may not have any observable short term consequences.
Having 4+ drinks over a short period increases blood pressure substantially for a period of time. High blood pressure, particularly when it's not chronic, rarely has any obvious symptoms unless you're already monitoring for it. Over many years this pattern of behavior can cause serious damage to arteries, the heart and kidneys without any obvious signs that it's happening. In particular, kidney damage rarely shows any symptoms until it's too late, and chronic kidney damage is irreversible and has permanent consequences even with successful treatment (i.e. - a transplant). Frequently going to bed after having several drinks can be a
major
problem because your blood pressure never falls properly like it's supposed to at night. This is difficult for a doctor to catch during routine visits because you can show perfectly normal BP at the office then go home and have undiagnosed nocturnal hypertension which is a major risk factor for kidney disease and arterial disease.
I like to drink, particularly, I like to drink beer, but I don't like to be stupid, and it's stupid to try and argue that having multiple drinks and getting buzzed or outright blitzed frequently doesn't have serious long term risks associated with it.

Ya know, I really wanted to think you were exaggerating with the 2.5% abv, but Bud Select 55 is actually 2.4% according to beeradvocate.com.
Being a beer geek for a few years has got me out of touch with what Bud/Miller/Coors are making these days.
