So, in other words a combo of The Confederacy (well, before Davis tried to give more power to the Central Government) and the EU. No thanks.

So would you say it's time for our citizens to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?

2011-10-18 09:05:23 AM
Well, not "everything". RON PAUL is in favor of a federal ban on all types of abortion.

2011-10-18 09:15:53 AM
Pretty much the idiocy that I expect of Libertarian candidates--which is to say, a brand of policy that will bring us to a Neofeudalist state. Not their stated goal, not even their philosophical goal, but that is exactly what their policies will lead to.

As someone who believes in the ideals of our Republic, no thank you.

2011-10-18 09:34:20 AM
He wants to remove the pitifully weak regulations we already have in place to regulate banks.

No thanks, Ron. We already tried that, and look where it led.

You know what would help our deficits? Instead of utilizing economies of scale, let's break up one department into 50.

2011-10-18 10:36:08 AM
States decide everything, eh, Submitter?

As far as I'm concerned, "States Rights" is just another way of saying, "I want to ignore the constitution."

impaler: You know what would help our deficits? Instead of utilizing economies of scale, let's break up one department into 50.

That's really going to help people when they have to deal with multiple departments instead of one. And help people continue the argument that government is inefficient when you have to deal with multiple departments instead of one. And mean more money to do the same thing when the job of one person now needs 5 because that work now has to be done in 5 different departments.

In short, are you retarded? That's a terrible idea.

Considering that no reasonable person would think it was more efficient to break up one department into 50, you might consider the possibility that he was being facetious.

There has been too much violence. Too much pain. But I have an honorable compromise. Just vote for Ron Paul. Give me your Clean Water Act, the EPA, the Department of Education, and the whole country, and I'll spare your lives. Just vote for Ron Paul and we'll give you a safe passageway in the Heartlands. Just vote Ron Paul and there will be an end to the horror.

Well, it would kill off a lot of old people. As you know, old people cost us a lot of money. They're a bunch of non-productive leeches. Ron Paul is just making the hard decisions others don't have the balls to make.

If only someone could figure out how to gather up all those dead bodies and boil and render them down to some kind of tar substance that you can then use to pave your roads.

Or into, like, biodegradeable garbage bags.

We don't need the Department of Energy to make horrible investments in energy businesses (solyndra) and perform useless research. They were created to prevent us from becoming dependent on foreign oil. Great job guys.

Simplify the tax code, stop wasting money on unnecessary foreign wars, bring home the troops from our hundreds of overseas bases, and stop promising entitlements we can't afford.

Why are these such revolutionary ideas to people? It's just common sense.

IIRC, he's in favor of letting young people opt out of Social Security. But it's such a great program so no one would do that, right?

What about the Chilean model? It seems to work rather well.

Year 2: Open revolt.

Oh who am I kidding, even if he did win the nomination AND the presidency, he'd have a Congress hostile to his plans. He'd go down as having the most hostile same party House in history.

Can the executive just not spend the money he's been allocated by the legislature?

Good: abolishing corporate subsidies, stopping foreign aid, ending foreign wars, cutting presidential salary (effectively meaningless but creates some good will), cutting federal workforce (although I'd put that off for now and focus on simply hiring fewer people rather than mass layoffs).

Bad: most of the rest of it.

He seems to have great ideas and terrible ideas and nothing in the middle.

I guess it depends on which ideas he'd actually have a chance of passing through congress should he become president.

2011-10-18 01:58:27 PM
He would block grant Medicaid to the states, reduce the federal workforce by 10 percent and even take as a presidential salary only $39,226 which he says is roughly the median income of the American worker.

Well that won't have ANY affect on the economy at all. That's only 200,000 jobs destroyed, a drop in the bucket compared to the 14 million who are already unemployed or underemployed. We can totally absorb that.

First Cain, now Paul (RON PAUL). This must be Republican candidate jump the shark week.

2011-10-18 01:59:14 PM
So basically, Ron Paul's answer to our problems is to dissolve the Union. Well, I guess if you think the federal govt is the problem, that's an answer. I'm sure having 48 continuous new countries won't lead to each one spending to high heaven on weapons and armies to protect themselves from the others, but whatever, Ron Paul!

Same here, when the economy was doing alright I figured it was time for some changes. In our current economic environment we can't afford such BS. Glad he didn't win, but then again, we might actually have a united congress getting things done had he won... Shrugs.

How would any of that be good for the United States?
You seem to think we are this independent country from the rest of the world. You do realize we are an extremely serviced based society that requires assistance from the rest of the world to survive ..... just like the rest of the world depends on us?

Also, you want to cut the federal workforce? Not happening. Here is what happens.
The government cannot decrease. Especially not the government of one of the richest and most powerful countries in the world. We are already low on man-power in a lot of areas. What government agencies have done is fire their employees and hire them back as contractors for less pay, less security and less benefits. Basically .... screwing our own citizens.
