The Minneapolis one seems to have been growing larger over the past week.

I'll be heading down there tonight.

Good to know. I'll have to see if I can get out there tonight as well.

I see a lot of white people who look like they might smell bad.

2011-10-18 08:44:11 AM
They need to get the fire hoses and police dogs going. This is ridiculous, a public park held hostage by the unemployable. If I was in charge, there would be rivulets of blood running down the streets. The police need to grow a pair and start cracking skulls.

It is actually private property, owned by a Canadian company, in fact. They cannot be made to leave so long as the company that owns the property allows them to stay.

Al_Ed: I see a lot of white people who look like they might smell bad.

Only the people who are actually occupying the park smell bad. Mostly because they're living in a park and don't have regular access to showers.

But most people that have homes to go back to do not smell bad, because we have this idea in our society about hygiene where we shower once a day.

They can certainly be made to leave if their behavior warrants it.

Errk: They can certainly be made to leave if their behavior warrants it.

But their behavior hasn't warranted it. They've been peaceful.

Right. And their behavior does not warrant that. That's pretty much the point.

Where has it been indicated anywhere besides the warped inside of your brain, that these folk are anything besides peaceful?

I did like seeing that they are respecting the property and not trampling everything.

Pooping on police cars is not peaceful. Not that the poopers represent the whole.

"Fark goes to Occupy Wall Street. This is what we saw"

You saw a 404 error?

2011-10-18 09:05:29 AM
A sign that looked like a 404 page?

2011-10-18 09:05:47 AM

ManRay: I did like seeing that they are respecting the property and not trampling everything.

Even as crowded as it was, people were making a concerted effort to avoid trampling anything and keeping the place clean. I saw several people cleaning up trash (they were rotating the duties), and people were getting stuck in the park trying to get through certain areas, rather than step into the planter area. One of the protesters mentioned he had replanted some flowers that had been inadvertently stepped on in the previous week.

I didn't say it hadn't been peaceful. I simply disagreed with the statement that "They cannot be made to leave so long as the company that owns the property allows them to stay".

I still say they are a bunch of commie dirtbags

I just think this whole vague thing is much like the War on Drugs and the War on Terror

I think people don't understand why things are farked up, how they got farked up, nor how to fix things with all of the changes that have happened since things started to get farked up. It's been 30 years - and 5 more of preparation - of things getting farked up.

I think a lot of people are there for selfish reasons, even simply to have a feeling of belonging.

2011-10-18 09:06:58 AM
Did you count the number of American flags and compare them to a Tea Party rally though? Did you do that? A good citizen would have done that.

So what you're saying is, you'd rather live in a country where the police can legally commit violence against peaceful protesters? Why aren't you already on a plane to Libya? You obviously hate America.

are you looking at the same pictures I am? I mean come on.. look at those people.. just look at em.

I didnt see a single bootstrap in the group.

I_C_Weener: Pooping on police cars is not peaceful. Not that the poopers represent the whole.

That was one guy...
And let's be honest..the movement's remained remarkably peaceful considering they've been beaten by police and pepper sprayed for no goddamned reason.

People have been arrested just for closing their bank accounts.
The police actions have been wildly disproportionate to the actions of the OWSers.

2011-10-18 09:09:16 AM
Yep, this is a protest full of young, clueless, unpatriotic, shiftless children... Right?

Nah. Old, clueless, unpatriotic, shiftless hippies are right there too.

2011-10-18 09:10:16 AM
Your bag dog wants social justice.

2011-10-18 09:10:54 AM
I don't really see this as "doing something." It's more like "hanging out." When your message seems to be "I don't have enough money because bankers," without any clear proposed solutions, people are going to sneer at you and call you childish. This is more active than putting a green banner on your Facebook page, but it's still slacktivism.

2011-10-18 09:11:37 AM
I like the part where the guy had a dog in a bag.

2011-10-18 09:11:42 AM
I understand why normal Americans might want to protest Wall Street billionaires.

But I sure as hell can't figure out why normal Americans want to DEFEND Wall Street billionaires.

2011-10-18 09:11:57 AM
Finally Fark, after first ignoring the OWS for three weeks and then publishing mostly "look at the fools" kind of articles.

2011-10-18 09:12:07 AM
Wow they're really working hard there, it's a shame they don't have jobs that they could apply that work ethic to. Actually being serious, would like to be generating enough P&L hire to hire a couple of these folks - after I hose 'em down though.

I don't think that one sign is totally accurate though about foreign banks. Shouldn't it say, "a large proportion of the tax revenue paid by people not here that you thought was coming your way went to foreign banks"?

2011-10-18 09:12:14 AM
Neat photos. It looks like i's becoming a bit more organized for those wanting it to be.
On another note, I'm surprised no one has made portable shower room systems for people to take showers during long public events.

This and that. I'm delighted that "my people" (ahem) are so well-organized, so thoughtful. I mean who thinks of socks and deodorant? This is awesome.

And I think the pictures are great too. :)
