Damn you subby.

Sure, it's all heroic, and it's certainly a very personal choice.

But I wouldn't let my wife refuse chemo in order to save an unborn child, if the cancer was even remotely curable.

Cynic here.

So, the options were

A) Get chemo, have miscarriage, have child later and grow up with... hang on,

The 41-year-old, who had been told by doctors she would never be able to conceive a child,

FARK THIS GAY EARTH

She was terminal, and single. That baby was her only reason to stay alive as long as she did.

Faced with the knowledge that only chemotherapy would save her from terminal neck cancer

If chemo could save her, then it's not terminal. Crappy ass medical reporting.

If it was really terminal, then she did the right thing.

waived the potentially lifesaving chemotherapy in the hope that she would eventually hold a healthy baby in her arms

It might not have worked.

Definitely a hero tag on that one.

Actually, it was 3 days after she met her daughter for the first time after having given birth.

She gave birth 23 days before she died.

/Still sad, just sayin'

Yeah, I remember that one. Dunno if it was chemo or some other treatment, though.

Wow, that kid won't grow up with any guilt at all. I see no therapy in its future. The mom was trying to make the kid love her forever, for her "gift", I suspect it won't end that way.

Selfish reason to have the kid and selfish thing to do to a kid.

I have a friend who's wife did this very same thing. He was so mad at her when she died.
She left him alone, in a city with no family or support, with a child to raise.

He said she kept saying it was HER choice. No room for discussion.
Well, no it isn't her choice. It's the family's choice at that point.

And let's not forget the resentment the Brother will eventually feel for being saddled with the kid.

Okay, that's sad.

Undoubtedly, this will serve as the plot for a future episode of Private Practice.

Same thing happened to the wife of my best friend from high school, back in late 1999 or early 2000 - he suddenly found himself a single father of 5 or 6. Knowing John, I have no doubt he landed on his feet just fine.

As with many of my old friends I've kind of lost touch with the guy. I suck at friendships, sometimes... but since 1978 I got way less religious and he got way more, so things would probably be awkward at best.

Wasn't this an episode of House?

Season one... "Babies and Bathwater"

yes, I googled that for you. The woman refuses a C-section so she can get cancer treatment because the baby is only at 28 weeks and she wants to carry it longer to give it a better chance of survival. Her cancer is very aggressive though, so they want to start treatment immediately. She's ultimately convinced to go with the early C-section after refusing for awhile. Spoiler: she dies anyway.

/it wasn't lupus
