How come we have better footage of this than of the American Airlines jet that hit the Pentagon?

I thought old people being able to find the nearest farmer's market no matter where they are was the law or something.

\after all, farmer's market customers aren't going to run themselves over, usually

And if you can reuse the plane, it's a great landing... thus, this one only rates a "good". All things considered, the guy did a pretty damn good job of getting the plane into a very tight spot without hurting anyone- wonder if he had some experience doing such things during the Late European Unpleasantness?

Maybe he had to crash the plane to avoid hitting the bear.... or maybe a bear (much like the one pictured) got sucked into one of the turbines

The bear is suspected of hiding the runway so the guy couldn't find it. He's wanted for questioning.

I would have used the HERO tag. He managed to land the plane and no one was injured. Bravo old pilot!

An old instructor of mine said, "If you die in a Cessna, it's because you're stupid."

Also, "The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire."

I'd happily fly with him. Bad pilots don't get to be 81. This crash was caused by engine failure.

Why not? Looks like the guy did an excellent job of bringing the plane in without causing injuries. That sounds like experience was helpful. You don't need lightning fast reflexes to fly a Cessna, but you do need experience and wisdom to fly one safely, and often that only comes with experience.

ty stick: How come we have better footage of this than of the American Airlines jet that hit the Pentagon?

Because a plane didn't hit the Pentagon. Nor did a plane crash in Shanksville, according to the mayor. No bodies, according to the coroner. Can you imagine - our own countrymen would attack us, just to get a "Pearl Harbor" type incident, so they could start a war to make money?

/Actually, it's not too hard to imagine Bush, Cheney, and their gang doing this.

Hmm, interesting. A little research into his background (division president at BASF), his pending transfer to a German office of same, and his name, Hans Kopper (most likely changed from Koeper) leads me to believe that if he was involved in the LEU it was most likely in the service of der Fuhrer.

Whatever you are smoking today, you need to share it with the rest of the class.

Also, extremely low frame rate security cameras do a great job identifying people, a fair job of documenting Cessnas going 60mph, and a piss-poor job capturing jets flying at almost 500mph.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that a cessna was probably moving about 1/5th the speed of the AA airliner.

That just means the fact that he survived THAT unpleasantness means that he's a pilot on par with the best pilots the USAAF and RAF had at the time--if your assumption is correct.

The Luftwaffe was almost completely decimated in 1945, so he would had to be flying earlier than that... a 14 year old pilot? I don't think so. Maybe not TOTALLY implausible, but pretty damned close to totally.
