Moscow's former mayor, Yury Luzhkov, devoted enormous effort to dreaming up snow-fighting schemes.

The man who commissioned this made questionable decisions?

Any health effects, you might ask? Probably. Is that ever discussed? Nope.

Sounds like Russia alright.

That's awesome. You know, not the kind of awesome that inhabits greatness, but the other kind.

My girlfriend grew up in Moscow, has only been here for 4 years. The other day she said "oh wow first snow in Moscow" and I made fun of her for acting so surprised. Now I see it's because of the Vodak. Will be sending her a link to this thread.

In Russia, Moscow surprises snow!

Subby has probably never driven in Toronto.

The morons there get surprised by the snow every winter. Excellent business for the body shops, though..

But for sheer hilarity, you should see when DFW or Austin TX gets an ice storm.

That's because half of them are from Hong Kong and the other half from Brampton. And they all drive like shiat.

I dunno... nitrogen (which won't be liquid for long) and silver? Maybe if the silver was in the form of bricks or something...

I always thought the "vodak" thing was people implying they'd had too much of it to be able to spell it... is there some other significance to it that makes people actually care?

One of my favorite lines from the old Astronaut days was one of them saying that before a trip to Russia, they set up who is the designated drinker each night because they could not keep up. Another Astronaut mentioned that he had to have killed hundreds of plants pouring otu his vodka. I will say that the first time a co-worker of my wife's came over (he immigrated from the USSR), I had a couple of vodak sets where you freeze the "single serving" tall shots. He saw the two sets, his eyes lit up, he hugged me and went "Someone with breeding!" and plowed through both sets - boom - boom- boom (repeat 20 times...). I was amazed he stood upright after all that booze.

It started with one thread many years ago with the word misspelled in the headline or the first few comments or something and the thread exploded. It became a Fark meme and people have been getting their panties in a twist about it ever since.

That's nothing. Judging by the roads here, Seattle drivers get surprised and confused by rain. It rains a bit here.

Agreed. Spent my first winter in Austin last year and marveled at how basically a heavy frost could bring a city to its knees.

I have one of those shot sets, work great for Schnaps too.

I've got a buddy who can plow through a fifth of peppermint schnaps in an hour with those cold glasses

TFA is full of it, typical Brit anti-Russian snark. Everywhere I've lived, people are caught by surprise when seasons change.

Also, October is still early for snow in Moscow. Snow in October would be surprising. And TFA missed the real story in all this -- in recent years, snow has been coming later and melting off sooner than normal.

Cant wait for DC winter it seems like people have never heard of this snow stuff and drive with wild abandonment. Like the people that drive over sheets of ice cause hey they have 4WD and its made for that.

Apparently Europe is now in the southern hemisphere.

Laughing quaker guy? Funny. Intentionally spelling vodka wrong? Not very funny bro. By all means though, carry on with the laughing quaker meme.
