That PA announcer should be thrown off the bridge for his douchetastic comment at the end.

From my desk chair the guy fulfilled his hobby to the fullest with great success. He has a death defying hobby, and lying in the hospital busted up six ways from Sunday but alive is death defying at it's finest. You should have died Risk-Taker but defied it. Congratulations, your awesome!

Bridge Jumping needs a magazine too!

Interesting: the guy you always see in all these wingsuit videos, Jeb Corliss, has been trying to work out a system for a parachute-less landing in a wingsuit for a while. It seems like this guy just beat him to it- you just have to accept the horrible injuries

Doesn't that bridge have a reputation for killing BASE jumpers and bungee jumpers?

It looks to me like he pulls the chute right at :44, the drogue is still flapping around at :46 when he hits the water.

If I'm right, and If he was travelling at 129kph as the article says, then he was about 230-345 feet above the water when he pulled.

129kph is about 120 fps. even at the top of your estimate (345 ft), It was still too late falling at that rate IMO.

Yeah, I have exactly one (1) free-fall under my belt, but I don't see that coming out well. Even if the chute had popped immediately, it couldn't have slowed him much. When I did my one sky dive, the instructor told us about one student who decided to see what it's like to deploy his reserve chute... at 500 feet. Despite surviving without a scratch the student was told to never come back. :D

Curiously enough, the only thing that went through his mind as he fell was "Oh no, not again."

Not sure how you calculated this or how the author of the article calculated his impact speed . . .
Don't forget that his vertical acceleration would have been retarded by the wingsuit.

Eight other jumpers were injured that day, too. One overshot the landing area and slammed into a tree trunk backwards (don't ask me how) and the others had leg/foot injuries from botched landings.

/And the wingsuit guy is currently listed in "Critical" condition.

So, the previous record for highest dive was 177 feet. I think this dive crushed that old record! Bravo!

I was at bridge day back around '87 or so and watched a guy plummet to his death there. I was a pretty young kid so it burned a nice horrific memory into my head.

You can guess how I answered ~10 years later when they said "So! Want to go to jump school?"
