to be fair though, CIncy actually has a pretty solid defense. Carolina's couldn't stop a peewee squad.

Not sure what media is being talked about here though. I've been hearing plenty of praise for Dalton, particularly from people who weren't big on him to begin with (ESPN's Ross Tucker and Matt Williamson, to be specific).

Have to say though, I was *dead* wrong about Cam Newton. I was convinced he'd be the next Jamarcus Russell. He may not be ever win a super bowl, but he's more than convinced me that he's got the talent and ability to be a legit NFL QB.
Dalton on the other hand, I figured would be pretty good. May not have the strongest of arms, but he's got plenty of accuracy, and, at least based on his college career, dude knows how to win.

Now if only the Bengals' owner would get his head out of his ass and trade Palmer.

Denver has a rookie linebacker that is better at being a linebacker than either of these guys are at being QBs. But defense gets no props so TEBOW!

4-2, #1 defense in the league! Shootin' for a Wild Card this year and there are enough easy games on the schedule to pad the record.

Also: It's just the REST of their defense needs to become good...(And they need an O-Line)

Von Miller may very well be overshadowed by the 49ers Aldon Smith when it comes to rookie linebackers.

What is sad is that they could have traded Palmer to the Seahawks, got a decent draft pick (2nd roundish, or maybe a 3rd +4th) and everyone would have been happy (especially Seattle who would have actually had a qb) and Cincy would have at least had a decent pick (like the Hawks took in the 2nd rd with OL James Carpenter, a career borderline starter/good backup)

I don't know Mike Brown, but he sounds like a just-as-insane-but-not-as-magnetic personality as Al Davis, but also lacking any football wisdom old or new school (at least Davis knew 60's football)...

Yes, but they have games against the Cardinals, the Browns, the Seahawks and the Rams. The Rams should be a gimme and the rest all have good odds to win: Then it's just a matter of sneaking two or so from other schedules.

Hence "shootin'" and not nearly guarenteed.

GimpyNip: Finally, nobody is going to trade for Carson Palmer. He is terrible. (ok maybe the Raiders will)

Palmer has not been as terrible as you think(26 TD to 20 INT w/ a 61.5% completion rate last year, 21 TD to 13 INT w/ a 60.5% completion rate the year before), but he's not nearly worth Mike Brown's price. I agree with Argyle that they should of taken a 2nd + 3rd/4th and stockpiled draft picks. Their D has a young core, they just need a few pieces, while the O needs almost total rebuilding but has two starting pieces(A.J. Green and Andy Dalton) in place already.

Dalton has the benefit of a defense with a healthy linebacker.

I'll say this about Mike Brown, if he knew 10% of what his dad forgot about football, the Bengals would be an awesome franchise.

Andy Dalton has a running back and a defense. Newton can subsume the running back position (he does have six rushing touchdowns...accounting for all but one of Carolina's rushing TD's), but he can't play defense.

/And neither can the Panthers.
//Hey-o!

Al at least had his redeeming qualities He may have been a thorn in the side of other owners and the league, but that thorn helped push the league into new success.
Brown is just a stubborn tightwad.

I cannot envision Carolina ever accepting a straight up trade of Dalton for Newton. Cincinnati would hesitate, but eventually would agree to such a trade. Newton is a physically gifted athlete, Dalton is simply a talented thrower. People like Dalton are a dime a dozen, and often flame out quickly. See also McCoy, Colt.

They're playing at about the same level
one cost a hell of a lot more than the other did though

Know how I know you haven't seen Panthers games?

The Panthers have led in every game this season, and Sunday was the first time they've lost by more than a touchdown.
The problem, as mentioned, is that you could set up a stationary obstacle course on the field, and that would be more effective than the Panthers' D.

Cam also gets intercepted.. a lot, which is usually the main cause of losing leads.

Yep.

It's those mobile quartebacks that win all the super bowls. Stand up, pocket passers never can close the deal.

/actually, it's the opposite of that

The Bestest: Know how I know you haven't seen Panthers games?

Except I've watched almost all of their games, albeit in between other games, so my grasp of the Panthers' problems are limited. The way I've seen it is if Cam wasn't slinging the ball around, they'd be losing by a couple of touchdowns every game. He and Smith seem to be the offense.

Colt McCoy flamed out?

8 TD to 3 INT, with Peyton Hillis not working and a star recieving corp of Greg Little and Mohamed Massaquoi, not to mention a defense that ranks 27th in the league in rushing? Colt McCoy has not been any Peyton Manning, but he has been at least adequate and with a fairly weak supporting cast. Oh, and he's in his second year.

That is not "flaming out".
