Article is about sandwiches.

Scarlett could not in any universe play Lisbeth Salander. Salander is a waif; a short, skinny, small-titted, not at all curvaceous stick of a girl.

Ehh.. The original movies where great. I doubt the American ones will live up to them.

the books are a must read also.

Rooney Mara is Kate Mara's sister. Good genes in that family, and they're loaded.

While I certainly agree with the last sentence, I attribute the first two to mesmerizing mammaries. She might be a better actress than other cheesecake favorites (e.g. Jessica Alba), but that's a pretty low ceiling.

She doesn't fit my traditional petite brunette favorite mold, but damn... she's definitely on my celeb list

gonjie: the books are a must read also.

The original movies are not great, Noomi Rapace is great, the rest is actually fairly mediocre. I have every confidence that David Fincher can make a much better movie, even if Rooney Mara, through no fault of her own, can't live up to her Swedish counterpart's brilliance.

Why restrict it to Scarlet? I think most here talk about wanting to just about everybody naked.

Hollywood thinks Americans are too stupid to watch foreign films. For the most part, they are correct.

The books are great if you enjoy reading 200 pages where nothing happens.

"... and then she had a sandwich of cucumber, lettuce and whole wheat bread for lunch."
.
There are like 50 pages devoted to lunch sandwiches

Because a very large proportion of the North American populace absolutely will not pay to see anything with subtitles, and dubbing sucks.

Any more mysteries of the universe I can help you out with?

I stopped reading around page 100, I just wasn't gripped by all the coffee breaks. People tell me I missed out, but I think I'm okay with that.

She's also the main character of a potboiler; a draggy, derivative, clumsy, poorly-edited, not at all entertaining snore of a book.

I love how all the characters in the remake resemble the original Swedish ones, with the exception of Mikael Blomkvist. In place of a schlubby doughy middleage guy we get a cadaverous Daniel Craig. Not a complaint, just an observation

Surool: Hollywood thinks Americans are too stupid to watch foreign films. For the most part, they are correct.

I dunno about that. It seems like Hollywood actively conspires against foreign films in the first place. You usually don't find both foreign films (or indie films) in the same theater as mainstream cinema. Major video stores usually keep them hidden, or don't stock them at all.

Though all this is changing. Now that you can watch movies online, the playing field has leveled out a bit.

Also, I'd argue that there's foreign films just as stupid as American films. Look at "Night Watch" for example -- it's all special effects and the story sucks. It's like watching Underworld in Russian.

^. I actually can't think of anyone from those books Ms. Johansson could play. Honestly, she doesn't fit any of the parts.

/maybe if they rewrote Miriam Wu as an Anglo.

MrEricSir: gonjie: The original movies where great.

Because they would rather spent hundreds of millions remaking the movie that potentially lose the viewers who they've determined won't watch a sub-titled film.

Wow. Let him start with a non-remake, then. He peaked sharply with the first 2/3 or so of Seven.

These are funny comments and good for in-jokes among those who've read the books, but saying that the pages were dedicated to these things -outside of the handful where rooms are described so as to set the scene for the reader- is like saying Carl Hiaasen books are about cheap hotels and hilariously down-market drug abuse. These are things that exist in the books to provide context and character, not their focus.

Having said that, I do think that the second and third book got a wee bit detached from the world established in the first one, and quite a bit Deus Ex Machinae-ish. The continual inflation of Salander's abilities -physical and mental- combined with the increasingly trite, occasionally repetitive, dialogue and growing unreality (Hacker Nation? The whole log in process just made me groan) really started to detract from the story. But, they were, overall, a fun, fast read, and they hi-lighted social issues as pertinent in Sweden as they are in the US. It'd have been nice if he hadn't died and we got more books in the series, but I actually thought the end of the third book made a good stopping point for the sort of story he was telling.

If what I've read constantly on fark is true, Christians are far and away one evolutionary step below gorillas and they figured subtitles out. If they can do it, anyone can. Right...

Oh, and Scarlett Johansson is so hot, I'd swim an ocean of her pee (taking large gulps with every stroke) just to see where it was coming from.

I'd have to agree with the US version then. Blomkvist is a major ladies man.

i think it also depends on the language. I for one found the Swedish audio to be too distracting in original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. but maybe thats because I don't have any familiarity with the flow of that language.
