If he wasn't on the field then he wasn't affecting the performance. The worst he was guilty of was not showing solidarity with team-mates who couldn't see him.

Whatever, who cares?

I mean: clearly everyone cares. To be specific though, if you're not pitching that day, I'm not too fussed what you end up doing. The odds of them coming in on short rest are pretty-much zero during the regular season. I get that it's a bad attitude, etc., but I don't see it really being the key issue, which in my mind was their performance on the mound.

That's OK, subby, you're not. He only said drinking in the clubhouse during games was wrong, not drinking in general.

If you can't be bothered to at least feign some sense of professionalism and solidarity for just three hours a day, then "the big bad media" has every right to slam you when epically collapse during the final month of the season.

Ultimately, I don't care much either, but so didn't they.

How much money is he getting paid? How about how much Beckett and Lackey are getting paid? For that dollar amount, you can't spend the entire game either in the bullpen or in the dugout? For that dollar amount, I'd sit on top of the dugout, wearing a Bozo the Clown costume and tooting an airhorn.

This. I don't take advice from a guy who is best known on this site for pissing on a guy's shoes.

FTFA: During a lengthy interview, Lester said he did not have permission to speak on behalf of Josh Beckett, John Lackey or the other starters, but felt he had to.

"Consider us a unit when it comes to these accusations," he said. "We either fall together or rise above it all together whether they like it or not. Things got magnified because we lost and sources started telling people what happened, which has me upset because if you're going to say something, be a man to put your name to it. But we're not bad people and we're not a bad group of guys.

"Are there things I regret? Sure there are. But nothing happened that had me unprepared to pitch. I don't blame people for wanting answers because we had a hell of a team and we lost. You can't have a team that gets paid like we get paid and loses and not expect people to want answers."

I thought that was the most interesting part of the article. The article was not all that interesting though.

What happens if there's one of those long extra-innings games, they burn through the pen, and they need a starting pitcher to cover an inning in relief? And this guy has been drinking in the club house for 5 hours?

It reflects the personality of the Red Sox management. The organization can't handle a little success and likely won't win another world series for 86 years.

Oh, and his teammates could see who wasn't in the dug out, even if they didn't know what was going on in the club house. It comes off like you're saying at worst it wasn't that bad. Not supporting your teammates is not a minor offense.

Since he's not on the field and not affecting the performance, would it be OK if he was drinking beer in the dug out?

Just remember everyone: if you do shots before games and end up winning the World Series, that's GOOD CHEMISTRY.

If you drink beer on your off day and miss the playoffs, that's BAD CHEMISTRY.

Now you know the difference.

This is all overblown crap. It makes Tito look like shiat and needs to stop getting media attention.

Calm down Mr.TMZ. There's no proof they were getting wasted throughout the whole game. Lester said in TFA they'd have a beer. Big deal. And I wouldn't care if all the players drank beer in the dugout. It's freakin baseball. It'd make it it more fun to watch if there was a keg at second base.

First off, who the fark ever has A beer? Maybe your grandma, but if you have one, you have a couple at the very least. And he's also risking a players life by throwing 90+ mile an hour fastballs with no control.

/CC 's fat because of Captain Crunch, and now we find Beckett's fat because of Beer, at least Captain Crunch only damages the eater

The worst part of this whole thing is that it gives the hack curly haired boyfriend more than enough fodder for his "doesn't everything suck?" columns. After all those Boston championships I was certain he was going to pack up his shiat and move to Cleveland or Seattle.
