As if my neighbors didn't think I'm weird enough...

RELOAD! GRENADE! F**K!

Why would you shout "Grenade" to throw your own grenade?
Seems like a wasted feature when you could have used it to make an ally throw his... thus imparting some evolved combat to what is otherwise a strait forward shooter.

This. Voice should be for squad commands.

Yeah, your gonna get police breaking down your front door inside a week if you yell grenade and reload constantly.

Yelling out actual commands is just retarded, especially when you can perform that action GUARANTEED with one button press. It's too iffy to use in a competitive scene.

"Reload"
*throws grenade*
"WTF I SAID RELOAD!!"
*suicide*

I am looking forward to it on RPG/Sandbox games where conversations actually matter (not just cutscenes). Mass Effect 3 looks awesome in this regard. Yelling renegade commands and actually telling your squadmates what to do just sounds fun.

As evidenced by anything that has ever come out of Japan, you can shout the name of your attack to make it more powerful. The louder the shout, the stronger the attack. Bonus points if your character is near death, or if your hair changes colors.

God I hated them so much. The worst missions were the ones where you had to choose whether to drive or man the gunner on the warthog. They are terrible drivers and even worse shots!

Their only saving grace was the unlimited ammo. Give one a rocket launcher and the other a Spartan Laser and you could tear it up for a while.

The pathing for their AI could have been stronger, or they could have been balanced to be more effective. Making them a more valuable part of the game and not just a target to avoid or a speed bump you feel half guilty about running over.

The original plan for halo was to be more of a strategy game and badass-normals appear everywhere in the games related fictions.
In halo itself tho, they've always been just scenery.

It was another wasted opportunity.

I can't believe anyone would actually buy this heaping pile of a game...don't get me wrong, I loved the first Halo, but this is just repackaging the same game with updated graphics, and some MINOR updates. Maybe if they'd included an updated version of the game, I dunno with Halo: Reach type equipment and weapons, as well as the updated graphics original, I'd give it a thought as to buying the game. And yes, I understand that this is essentially the same thing EA does every 26 minutes with their sports franchise games.

Did someone say repackaging the same game?

I believe that title is held by Nintendo my good sir. Can't really fault another company for trying to do the same.

I don't understand why they would remake the same game so damn soon. It's not like Bungie didn't make an amazing FPS before Halo that deserves a remake.

Well, this isn't Bungie, this is 343 Industries and Bungie still owns the rights to marathon. Plus the name Halo is guaranteed to sell 4 zillion copies in an hour.

This is why I am buying it. I want CE weapons, maps, and rules. I don't want anything from 2,3, or reach. I would have been happy if th XBL release they did a few years ago had multiplayer.

Hilarious. You know why there is no FPS where console players can battle PC players? There's no technical limitation preventing this; Portal 2 (coop only) showed how easy it is. A couple obscure FPSes released years ago had this feature-and the PC gamers wiped the floor with the console players every single time. It's because mouse plus keyboard beats joypad a hundred times over, and no console propely supports mouse/keyboard play.

Oh, and here are a couple hundred thousand people who think PC FPS multiplayer gaming is alive and well:

...and that is just the top ten Steam-enabled games (4 of the top 10 were not FPSes and I therefore eliminated).

Seriously, the only way you can play at all is to CHEAT. Any use of "autoaiming" is considered a permaban offense in a real FPS multiplayer game. Being good at console FPS is like winning the special olympics and you'd prolly have to cheat at that too.

i think, similarly, console gamers with a gamepads will wipe the floor with console gamers using Kinect.

you can hit the "grenade" button faster than you can verbalize "grenade!", you can pull the trigger faster than you can say "bang! bang! bang!", and you can hit jump button *much* faster than you can pretend to jump in place ...

"Mouse and keyboard beats controllers every time."

Who cares? What does that matter if your console people are playing console people and the PC people are playing PC people? If you're playing single-player the game is scaled to the medium, too.

I'm definitely better at playing with a keyboard and mouse, but I still prefer controllers because I like to play games while sitting on my chair or on the couch and doing that with a mouse and keyboard isn't as comfortable.

I don't even own a console. I mean, I own a Wii, but that hardly counts, right? I'm still waiting for the next Zelda game. Regardless, there's not a lot on the PC worth playing that involves multiplayer. Although Payday is looking pretty good.

Ungarlmek: Who cares? What does that matter if your console people are playing console people and the PC people are playing PC people? If you're playing single-player the game is scaled to the medium, too.

Greater range of input creates greater range of depth, meaning better video games. Mouse-and-keyboard creates greater range of input than controllers for first-person shooters. Therefore, first-person shooters built for the mouse and keyboard are better video games. Real simple, really.

2011-10-17 09:33:54 PM
Mike_LowELL: Greater range of input creates greater range of depth

This is a subjective term. 99% of desktop FPSes use WASD for direction, a handful of secondary keys, two mouse buttons and the scroll wheel. That's one analog stick, one D-pad, and one set of secondary buttons and a pair of triggers (like the X-Box controller). The advantage of the mouse is greater precision. That's very different from greater "depth" which is a made up term that describes nothing. There are more potential inputs, but how many of them get used. WASD, QEFRZX (maybe), and the number keys, RMB, LMB, Scroll. Any extra mouse buttons get mapped to one of the existing keyboard shortcuts making their use a matter of preference. And really, the number keys are basically mapped to the same function as the scroll wheel _and_ the wheel has the advantage of not requiring a repositioning of the hand (and many players use Q and E in the same place as the scroll wheel), rendering the entire debate academic and retarded. At the same time.

You could argue that the desktop, which is on a much tighter upgrade cycle than a console, offers more modern hardware and more powerful equipment, which means that games can push the technological envelope much further on the desktop. On the other hand, it's now reasonable to ask, "Is that what we really want from our games?" Games like VVVVVV and Super Meat Boy demonstrate that no, there's a significant number of players that don't give a shiat about the technological envelope. Further, from a marketing standpoint, if a developer wants to sell a large number of units they need to target the broadest hardware, which means that they can't push the envelope too far. If they do, it needs to be backwards compatible, meaning you get highly variable experiences.

It's like the film industry. The entire thing makes garbage. But enough people pay for garbage that it's profitable. Look on the bright side: it hasn't descended nearly as deep as the TV industry. Which also produces utter crap and makes billions. Speaking of making money for producing absolutely nothing of value, have you looked into the banking industry lately? I hear people are fairly upset about it.
