Maechyll: Because of Fark recommendations: Idiocracy (meh), Big Lebowski (STFU Donny, I loved it) and last week--V for Vendetta (Oh yeah!)

Oh, and Event Horizon (meh).

thisispete: saw Dark City due to a Fark recommendation.

I voted for you for that one alone. Great movie and Jennifer Connelly to boot!

Idiocracy.

2011-10-17 06:01:53 PM
The Star Wars Prequels. Everyone on Fark seems to love them and can't stop raving about them even in unrelated threads.

Headline: This Month Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

"Fark, that pod race was wizard!"

Firefly (the series) and Serenity (the Firefly movie) - in that order.

/The list of books you should read might be fun, too.

If you like awful movies as much as I do, watch the following in no particular order:

Carnosaurs 3
Sgt. Kabukiman, NYPD
Undead or Alive: A Zombedy
The Room
Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus / Crocosaurus
Battlefield Earth
Kazaam
Meet the Feebles
Manos: The Hands of Fate

2011-10-17 06:02:26 PM
Oldboy, Audition and Ichi the Killer - all from Fark comments.

2011-10-17 06:02:34 PM
Steve Martin in The Jerk deserves a mention, if only for the number of times I've seen a reference to "hates these *****'s" (where *** is some inanimate object being shot, only incidentally).

Sticky Hands: No Evil Dead movies?

I don't like you people any more, you are all going on my ignore list.

Fark is slipping if it took 76 entries for an Evil Dead reference.

/Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick!

Whoever came up with this survey is a Real Genius, which should also be required viewing. Seriously, thank you. Great idea.

We're not necessarily talking great or even good movies - we're talking required Farkdom movies:
Office Space
The Big Lebowski
Pulp Fiction
Raising Arizona
Caddy Shack
Snakes on a Plane
Airplane
The Dark Knight
etc...

Naturally, I'd recommend just about anything Kurosawa ever did (with particular mention of those collaborations with Toshiro Mifune, of course).

I don't know that I'd call those films required viewing for Farkers, per se, but they're still damn impressive. I'd imagine that many of the people here would get a kick out of 'em.

The Wizard of Frobozz: Quite possibly the best western ever: Unforgiven

That would have to go hand-in-hand with the Dollars trilogy, but ESPECIALLY The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

wxboy: By the end of this thread I fully expect to see every movie ever made be named at least once.

Except maybe "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus".

Actually, you make a good point.

I can't wholeheartedly recommend Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus.

I *will* recommend the hell out of Sharktopus. I tried my best to convince some TFers to check that jazz out.

LemonYellowSun: Watched City of God due to a Fark thread on foreign films.

Excellent idea!

Had I been an Academy member, it would have received my vote for Best Picture over The Return of the King. I thought it was THAT good.

Mog32Kupo: Hobgoblins, that was some good MST3k right there

DEFINITELY one of the worst movies they ever covered, and THAT'S saying something.

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: Doubletwist-: I'd like to put my vote in for:

Six String Samurai

I'd second that. Lots of goofiness, lots of quotability.

"Nice tuxedo. Nice tuxedo TO DIE IN!!!"

I'm going to third that.

Even though for a few short minutes, I managed to merge it with The Way of the Samurai.

I had a rock and roll Forest Whitaker snarking kids, tending birds and fighting Rob Zombie in my head.

Found it because of a geek thread, and will never let it go.

/Honestly, someone should do a big budget version of the manga already.

What is that?

With the current economy looking all blown to hell, some Farkers might also enjoy: The Way of the Gun.

I could watch the opening scene over and over and over again.

Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer
To Live and Die in LA
LA Confidential
Onion Field

Miller's Crossing

I saw Infernal Affairs which was remade by Scorsese with Nicholson as The Departed. The original Hong Kong version was 10 times better and don't pass that off as snobbery until you see it for yourself and no I don't speak Cantonese. That was the best recommendation I've gotten off of a Farker. Vera Farmiga should have her SAG card pulled after the job she did in that movie especially when you see how well the Chinese actress did it. Martin Sheen did a better job than the original actor and even Mark Wahlberg stepped it up a notch too. The rest of the cast was worse and are probably flossing out pieces of scenery to this day.

I saw The Soviet Story because of a Baltic farker's recommendation, I think King Corn might have been another.
