If Norman farking Dale tells you to sack up and act like a man, you sack up and act like a man.

What's the matter with you? Is this what you've become, a Hollywood finocchio who cries like a woman?

Bill Murray is awesome.

I had no idea Gene Hackman was that rough to work with. Not the least bit surprising, though, since Royal was one of the most assholish characters I've ever seen. It comes right through.

I do just love that movie. More than anyone else I know.

I also makes sense why he said he "quit acting" a few years ago.

You realize that you're talking about a fictional character, right? That he was acting? That's his job, you know. He's an actor.

Anyone's a fool who confuses someone's onscreen persona with their actual personality and character. "But he played Popeye Doyle! He gets to do what he wants!" So childish. Grow up and realize that just because somebody's a great actor or musician or artist doesn't mean they have carte blanche to be a douchebag.

Hackman was in the Marines. Kind of makes sense that a hipster like Anderson would piss him off.

From what I've read, Gene never had a very good relationship with his own father. His father was a grumpy German immigrant, his parents got divorced when he was in his early teens and his father cut off communication with the kids, and his mom later died in a fire. He joined the Marines by lying about his age just to leave home. Lot of misery going on.

'Tenenbaums' is Anderson's 'Pulp Fiction'.

It is his vision, fully realized. The perfect mesh of all of his favorite themes - absentee parents, social alienation, absurdism.

And, like Tarantino, he has not made a good one since.

(And Bill Murray is a bad-ass. I met him, briefly, when he was shooting 'Rushmore' in my neighborhood in Houston)

Royal Tannenbaums. Shiat film.

Wished Hackman had punched Anderson in the face instead for making it.

And most everyone else in the cast. Being an alpha male around a bunch of ninnies with weak spines can be annoying as fark. Makes sense that Bill Murray would be one of the few that could tolerate him, as his pants are pulled up, so to speak.

That movie has some of my favorite dialogue. I love how Royal turns on "blackness" whenever he's in a scene with Henry.

Can I ask you something, Hank?
Okay.
Are you trying to steal my woman?
I beg your pardon?
You heard me, Coltrane.
Coltrane?
What?
Did you just call me "Coltrane"?
No.
You didn't?
No.

I disagree.

'Aquatic' was just a re-hash of things that were better said in his earlier movies.

'Mr. Fox' was just barely watchable. It was a good idea, just badly written.

'Darjeeling' was just plain bad.

Just my opinion.

It's not that, you're calling the principle into question that makes you look like a over analytical dullard. It's common movie talk to say "SoAndSo gets a pass for their role in XXXX" or something to the effect. That you're calling that statement out as false indicates that you're a socially awkward authoritative dipshiat.

The problem with this assertion is that you assume that Wes Anderson ever made a 'good one'.

I'm with Hackman on this. Wes Anderson films are nothing excercises in self aborbtion. Tarantino is only
marginally better; he at least can write snappy (if repetitive and ultimately tiresome) monologues.

Jackie Brown was really good. Its only problem was that it had to follow Pulp Fiction. The Kill Bill movies were good, too, especially if you grew up on Kung Fu Theater and got a lot of the references.

I saw an interview with him where he revealed he has struggled with rage control issues since he was a kid. This is why he chose the Marines.

He talked about how scared he was before filming a fight scene in the French Connection. He was afraid he wasn't going to be able to control his rage and just beat the shiat out of the other actor.

I hear Gene Hackman said the same thing to Taylor Swift about her farking perfume debut too.

"Pull up your pants and open your eyes you coontry bumpkin rainbow sniffer!"

And then everyone started throwing cup cakes and crying. It was said to have been awesome.

A shared opinion by me.

He has his moments, but as an entire body of work ... Anderson shoots very pretty, very stylistic and utterly boring films. Pastel cupcake icing and sprinkles, but nothing really sticking to the ribs.
