Ok that is the best cosplay picture I've seen in ages. Not some professional costume, not some slutty girl in short skirt (those those are welcome), not some landwhale in a thong, not yet another slave leia. Just some guy in a decent costume from a good sci-fi property that looks like he is having a hell of a lot of fun.

It was a good con. Much better than last years. Saturday and Sunday were packed of course, but the aisles were wider, and line management by staff was decent. Panels may have been weaker. Snagged some exclusives and sold them to subsidize my 4 day pass and this:

After The Dark Tower, I... really don't care for the entire series. The ending was so amazingly stupid and weakened the entire story as a whole that even the pretty great 2nd and 3rd books feel cheapened, knowing how it finishes.

I made peace with that shiatshow of an ending, for me it was the journey there anyway. I think the re-write of the first book cheapens the entire series, and totally alters Rolands character before he established his multi-verse ka-tet

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Line management and room management were pretty poor overall. They failed to clear people from rooms after panels or even police the trash in many cases.

Security was a major failure. Caught them keeping guests/speakers out while permitting other ticket holders in. Uh... you invited them here, let them into the exhibit hall. In many cases they need to go there for stuff for their panels, autograph sessions (i.e., extra posters) or just to get the logistics down with the company they're affiliated with.

Theft was also an issue. Somehow, some major issues occurred overnight and a lot of vendors got hit (for a place that had security there 24-7, and supposedly has a person monitoring the cameras 24-7 as well, that's either gross incompetence, or an internal issue; either way, a lot of issues there).

Good con, no doubt. That said, they need to seriously address some stuff before they get a rep for this stuff.

That is concerning about the thefts, but if it was an overnight thing and I had to guess - it was perpetrated by other vendors/professional pass holders. I'm surprised they don't toss out more people for sneaking in or shoplifting during the day - it appears like it would be easy to rip stuff off. I think that has to do with the quality of the staff & security personnel. Just my opinion though, I don't mean to make such a broad generalization.

Modern cons are a great example of everything that is wrong about the comic book industry these days. From the hordes of people who don't read comics but just show up to show off their costumes, to the comic vendors who overcharge for product, to the big companies who elbow out the smaller indie companies when it comes to space and big presentations, comic cons are the biggest vortex of suck in the industry.

ZeroCorpse: Modern cons are a great example of everything that is wrong about the comic book industry these days. From the hordes of people who don't read comics ...

I'm not a comic reader, but I wouldn't mind going to the San Diego or NY Comic Cons for the TV and movie panels. So why don't these cons just spin off the TV/movie stuff for fans who want to see that and leave the comic cons to comics? Seems the studios, networks and cable stations have taken over, sure, but I also think San Diego Comic Con could make a crapload more money having two cons -- one for the comics and such and a second for the Hollywood types that want to ply their wares to the nerds and geeks as well.

It's sorta the anti-Evangelion, in some ways. It's a reconstruction that goes over-the-top.

Also in that they scrimped and saved on their animation budget throughout the entire series (though it's hard to tell!), then blew a huge wad of cash on the mid-season climax, and the last episode.
