Yeah, sorry to say it, but the Lion's coach is coming off as quite a dick in this one.

Is he? Based purely on what I saw Harbaugh looked pretty bad also. He pushed Schwarz pretty hard and apparently there was an obscenity.

And from what I hear from the Yard Duty, James Harbough has been quite the terror on the playground.

I don't know, there is a hella lot of difference between a pat on the back after a game and what Harbough did to Schwarz. I'd be pissed to if someone did that to me.

/Granted, I wouldn't have chased him around like a mad man....
//Well, likely not anyways.

Why did I just listen to Michael Irvin's interpretation of this? God help me.

He "called his son" to make sure he didn't see it? He didn't want him to see this part of the game? WTF is wrong with this guy? They weren't throwing punches or anything. Hopefully he erased the DVR of the Smith beatdown last week or by his own standard he's a horrible parent.

Holy cow, talk about projection.

This was a simple thing that was likely NOT intentional blown WAY out of proportion.

We're not talking about the game, the GREAT game we just watched, now it will all be about the supposed demeanor of the head coaches, which again, was a little thing, made big by the Lions coach and the media.

It's a giant joke. Let it go everyone. Just let it go.

DamnYankees: He pushed Schwarz pretty hard

When? I just watched it a few times. I saw a forceful handshake, and then a little pat on the back that didn't appear to knock Schwartz one bit out of his stride.

2011-10-17 12:04:54 AM
Harbaugh admitted he was in the wrong, I don't blame Schwartz for running after him.
Then there's the media making it into a bigger deal than it really is, trying to instigate fines, keep the story going. It's not like he stabbed the guy.

do you blame Schwarz for being a little wackjob? hell yes.

will be funny to see what if anything the nfl does ... LOLOLOLOOL

No he didn't I was just watching local SF (spots extra) news he said nothing of the sort.

Harbaugh said: "That is totally on me. I shook his hand too hard. I really went in, and it was a strong, kind of a slap-grab handshake."

Basically he said Schwartz couldn't handle my handshake, which is the classiest way of calling someone a pussy ever.

I just laughed loudly enough to wake my neighbors.

2011-10-17 02:28:57 AM
Incidentally, I remember shaking the hand of a college rep once, and hearing a loud crack and seeing him give an awkward smile.

I did not like the guy (from a previous encounter), so I went out of that door really happy. It wasn't even intentional on my part, but I do laugh when people assume that one who isn't massive is capable of delivering a big handshake.

I guess the Schwartz wasn't with him

I'm surprised people are acting like that apology from Harbaugh was really an apology. He was pretty obviously talking shiat. It's my fault, I was too strong and tough.

you are a puppet: I'm surprised people are acting like that apology from Harbaugh was really an apology. He was pretty obviously talking shiat. It's my fault, I was too strong and tough.

Well, I mean, he really doesn't have anything to apologize for.

Nobody would have talked about this if Schwartz doesn't go gung-ho. Even if he complains about it in the press conference, this would have been "meh" to the media without that absurd over-reaction on the field.

2011-10-17 02:50:18 AM
Frankly, I think it's laughable that this is getting a "both sides are bad" attitude. One made a gaffe, one acted like a crazy "shiat cock" screamer.

I've seen the incident several times on replay and fail to see what justified the crazy screaming rant.

InferiousX: I've seen the incident several times on replay and fail to see what justified the crazy screaming rant.

The Lions lost their glass slipper, and Schwartz is less than pleased about it.

Harbaugh has basically made Schwartz look like a complete douche, being the bigger man and saying 'hey, my bad, I guess I was just too happy about my team winning the game against this media Cinderella'.

And Schwartz said 'watch the video'? To confirm what -- that he himself is a complete whackjob?

2011-10-17 03:12:20 AM
The Lions just need to focus on winning a playoff game this decade. Screw all this other crap.

I'm saying that writers shouldn't say he apologized/took the blame because he was clearly being sarcastic.

The 49ers won the game. Harbaugh's earned the right to talk a little shiat.

While I can understand why Harbaugh was amped up over the win, he should have had a little bit more composure on the field, and he should have adhered more the the standard sportsmanship decorum that should prevail in these situations. That said, Schwarz completely overreacted and (IMHO) made himself look foolish in the process.

On the other hand, who would have believed a year ago that the signature game of NFL Week 6 would be between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers?

I know, and believe you're right.

I guess I'm speaking to Michael Irvin and his ilk, if anything. Then again, look at Michael Irvin.

2011-10-17 03:32:04 AM
This reminds me of a few years ago when LT threw a huge hissy fit because the Pats were celebrating on the Chargers' field. Nevermind they had just won a playoff game, they should show some class and wait 24 hours to celebrate when they had gotten back home.

2011-10-17 04:08:36 AM
It looked like a dick move on Harbaugh's part, like he gave him a shake and shove and a quick "fark you, I'm out". I'd be pissed if someone treated me like that, particularly on national TV. But then, the reaction is nuts, so I dunno. Two overgrown boys playing a child's game for crazy money, who really cares, anyway?

2011-10-17 04:27:01 AM
Harbaugh shook hands with Schwartz like he was celebrating with a teammate, not giving regards to the coach of the team he just defeated. He was so pumped he didn't know where he was. That's what he should've apologized for.

Unfortunately for Schwartz, there really was no good to come of that. Best he could've done would be to shrug and give a WTF expression to the camera. Instead, he went unhinged because he couldn't stand to be shown up.

NemoD: Basically he said Schwartz couldn't handle my handshake, which is the classiest way of calling someone a pussy ever.

Love this! :-)

2011-10-17 05:27:12 AM
Almost seemed like they did too good of a job keeping people off the field which allowed Harbaugh and Schwartz to meet sooner than normal, and, given the ending, Harbaugh was still pretty amped up, still in "congratulating my players" mode when Schwartz reached him. Tough shiat, loser boy.

2011-10-17 05:42:05 AM
I am surprised at how many people are saying they saw nothing from Harbaugh. It was an obvious asshole gesture.

Schwartz was forced to react that way. You can't get shoved aside like a little biatch on national TV. You just can't.

/so glad this happened

Here is the message I sent to this ESPN writer (Kevin S) who covered the Lions rival Minnesota Vikings for 8 years. His article comes across like a bitter fan more than an NFL national writer...IMO.

"Hey Kevin: You pulled a TMZ taking a pic that is clearly showing an NFL coach (Celeb) in a weird facial expression and making a huger deal out of it than it was; going as far as calling Schwartz a lunatic. What next? Getting an up shorts shot of one of the players stepping out of their car? (TMZ) Stop being bitter for the Vikings loss to the Lions. You're supposed to be a writer not a fan."

2011-10-17 07:06:48 AM
Ender's: Yeah, sorry to say it, but the Lion's coach is coming off as quite a dick in this one.

Harbaugh can celebrate like that on his sidelines after the win but c'mon man, regain your composure when you go to the other team's sidelines. He was a bigger asshole; and the instigator. Schwartz should have punched the dickhead in the Farking face.

OH DEAR GOD AN OBSCENITY. ON A FOOTBALL FIELD, THE HORROR!!

Lions coach looks like an idiot. And a big fat blubbering twat too.

For a guy who has gotten in the habit of doing a big douchebaggy fist pump after winning, Schwartz has nothing to complain about.

From the post-game I got the impression that the "obscenity" was made up by Schwartz afterward to try and justify his tantrum.
It's highly subjective, I don't know the guy, but it just looked like very obvious bullshiat.

Does Schwartz do that awkward exaggerated punch thing after every win or just the last few? A coach having a signature win celebration is pretty farking lame.

No - I'd definitely take Schwartz's side in this. Harbaugh has a history of being a douchebag at the end of the game in his college years.

Schwartz's end-game celebrations have been a little over the top. One game ended with him yelling out "farkKKKK YOUUUUU!" while pumping his fist in the air. So a handshake that is too hard doesn't get much sympathy from me.

2011-10-17 09:38:13 AM
I like Jim Kelly but was amused when they said Harbaugh and Kelly had a 'disagreement'. Kelly apparently was talking shiat. And it 'resulted in a broken hand for Harbaugh'

2011-10-17 09:43:57 AM
WOW.

The Lions coach is acting like a little pussy. I think I'll mail him a "hello kitty" card.

2011-10-17 09:47:00 AM
Harbaugh sounded like cocky douchebag in the post game presser.

"Yep, shook his hand too hard. I really went up in there and really yanked it. Yep, this one is on me."

First, he had this smarmy grin the entire soundbite. Second, bullshiate that's all that happened. You think Jim Schwartz is going to try to fight you over a firm handshake? Third, he is kinda calling Schwartz a pussy for not being able to handle a handshake.

2011-10-17 09:47:38 AM
Lost in all this is the fact that the Niners are nobody's biatch anymore. That defense is legit. As a USC fan, I've always thought Harbaugh was a dick. As a Niners fan, I'm glad he's our coach. That team needed someone to find the mean streak in them.

When you have guys like Willis, Iupati, Davis, Sapooaga, Rogers, Gore...you don't try to turn them into a finesse team. You attack. That's the attitude Harbaugh brought and it was much needed.

Still not sold on Alex Smith leading them to glory, but other teams better bring their A game when they play the Niners now, or Harbaugh will shake their coaches hand too hard, if you know what I mean.
