Um... so?

FTA: Obama, who has been branded a "class warrior" by Republicans unhappy with his plans to increase taxes on the rich to pay for his jobs and deficit plans, has embraced the term.

He's doing exactly what he said he would do during his campaign. Seems reasonable and consistent to me. The fact that Wall Street spent money on him doesn't mean that they somehow "own" him, and he's doing the job for which he was elected.

I don't buy that headline. Romney has received 3 times as much from Wall Street.

so, wait - is obama a corporatist tool of wall street this week? last week he was a pinko socialist.

btw, is he a fundamentalist muslim this week or a radical black christian devotee of rev. wright?

also, is he an empty suit or scheming puppet-master member of the illuminati who's going to take away our guns and put us all in FEMA camps?

i do know he's black, no matter what.

Right. Like all politicians, Obama is "fighting" for the interests of those that have 99% of the power and give him 99% of his campaign contributions.

Yeah.

Hey the 99%,
My name is the 1%, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are poor, lazy, no-lifes who spend every second of their day complaining how the corporations keep you down. You are everything bad in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever taken a shower? I mean, I guess it's fun whining and complaining because of you made the wrong choices in life, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than buying shares when they're high.
Don't be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shot. I'm pretty much perfect. I am a CEO of a multinational conglomerate, and a multi-millionaire. What jobs have you held, other than working as a barista? I almost pay no taxes, and have a high yielding diverse stock folder (the DOW just rallied 300 points; shiat was SO cash). You are all candy-asss who should go home and get a job. Thanks for listening.

Yeah, I just read that earlier too. Now it's, 'OMG teh president gets the most from Wall Street, WTF?' I have seen this before, the way the (Fox/neocon) republicans are acting about anything Obama does is how 2 year olds act when they are up way past their bed time.

/Everything is a tantrum, everything is wrong. Just give them a sippy cup of milk and then put them to bed.

I doubt he's the biggest recipient, but yes -- the hypocrisy is still there.

You guys knew he was a Wall Street kiddie when he ran the first time. You voted for him anywho. There it is.

When you elect people with strong corporate ties, you cannot expect them to represent any other interest beyond the corporate ones.

Try electing one without those strings attached and you'll likely fair a bit better.

2011-10-17 05:05:38 AM
This is Monday. Let's see what Obama says by next Monday.

Hell, he may be advocating mass executions of protesters by then, depending on their behavior. He's not exactly consistent.

it might be if the OWS group was endorsing Obama. AFAIK they are going with the both sides are bad. One is just slightly worse than the other. Besides the Wall st people are all lining up behind Romney so far this season. hard to tell who is supporting who with all the anonymous pacs out there now. thanks SCOTUS. For all we know the next guy might be in China's pocket.

he may not be a lot of things but he's pretty consistent. what makes you say he's not?

2011-10-17 05:17:16 AM
Of course he's going to say that he's fighting for the 99%. He's a politician a.k.a a liar and a cheat. I still don't understand
how anyone could believe anything coming out of the mouths of DC politicians. Not that it matters really. There's a huge
cold front coming in through this week. That will clear out most of these people.

2011-10-17 05:22:21 AM
The OWS crowd is mostly Obama's voter base, of course he has to at least say he is with them. And if the protestors keep the pressure up, Obama and congress will have to back up their support with meaningful action. Because while money is nice and can win some people over, a dedicated voter base is even better.

2011-10-17 05:22:26 AM
I don't care if they're out there protesting the stripping away of their rights to curb stomp children. They got the right to protest. Linking them to Obama isn't going to make me vote Republican. Linking them to corporations isn't going to make me think they shouldn't be allowed to protest. Kids do this EVERY generation in this country. It's what we do...

In fact, you know what? Linking OWS to absolutely ANYTHING is not going to make me suddenly change my mind and join the GOP. My only hope is that it is some dumbass wingnut on the left who thinks their "clever" headline that makes the right wing folks seem dumb. I don't ask for too much so, well, if someone could just reaffirm the political leanings of the submitter that would be nice. My worst fear is that there's some cackling nutjob on the right giggling maniacally while being thoroughly convinced that this headline is going to suddenly alter *something* that causes me to vote against my interests and beliefs.

Oddly... It is fairly well known around here that I did not vote for Obama. (I get a kick out of people who say they don't "support Obama. I mean, hell, you don't support the president? Didn't they just rail about that a few years ago?) However, the more the GOP goes on, the more I see the idiots they offer up for electing, and the more I read about their antics - the more likely I am to vote for Obama next election... Here I was, a third party voter pretty much constantly, and I'm being actively pushed to actually change my views and vote against something. It sucks because it is not voting FOR something but I'll cope if the election looks like it could be close.

2011-10-17 05:26:44 AM
Hobodeluxe: it might be if the OWS group was endorsing Obama.

I was just pointing out the rights ability to hold two contradictory beliefs at the same time.

Hobodeluxe: AFAIK they are going with the both sides are bad.

yeah that's how I'm taking them. which is fine to an extent. I just hope they don't stick with it when reality doesn't match up.

Why are we still arguing about left/right instead of looking at the trendlines? We still spend more than we take in (or can pay back), govt. transparency is on life support, money buys seats, we're at war on 6 or so fronts, and our civil liberties continue to erode. These are important issues to me and it seems that irrespective of the office and the party in power, the trendlines on these things don't change much.

Watching politics is like watching professional wrestling. At the end of the night, it's all theatre; the participants go home with a pittance of the real gate and other revenue, the promoters make the real bank, and our pockets are lighter. The metaphor hiccups, though, in that I've never been compelled by law to buy a ticket or PPV. But by all means, continue to suspend your disbelief, ignore the bigger picture and precedent, and root rabidly for your favorite showmen.

Here's a flag. Go back to sleep.

Oh, let's see. His flip-flop on public campaign financing during the 2008 election, his campaign promise to shut down Gitmo and then signing a bill that specifically prohibits transferring prisoners, signing a bill that reauthorized the Bush tax cuts for two more years in 2010 ( "No part of my budget will be free from scrutiny or untouched by reform. We will end no-bid contracts that have wasted billions in Iraq and end tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas. And we'll save billions of dollars by rolling back tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans while giving a middle-class tax cut to 95 percent of hardworking families."), resumption of military trials for terror suspects, and wiping out NASA funding after saying "As president, I'll make our space program a priority again by devoting the attention and resources needed to not only inspire the world with feats of exploration but also improve life here on Earth."

That's just a few. And it's not just conservatives who think he flip-flops; many members of his own party aren't impressed with his presidency one single bit.

Really, the only thing that will save him is that the GOP presidential field is weak, and many hard-line Democrats would rather slam their heads in a car door than vote for a Republican.

Just about all of the alleged "flip flops" you posted were a result of necessary compromise with a minority that obliterated the record for filibusters and has been the most obstructionist in history.

The only members of his own party that "aren't impressed with his presidency one single bit" are those that believe that he has some magical power to overide congress that he isn't using. The fact that he has accomplished anything at all is astounding considering how hard the clowns in congress have fought against every single thing he has advocated.
