Awww... poor thing. Shame that so many tamed cats wind up on the street. I've got a super-tame, sweet, idiotic, and very cute kitteh that someone ditched at a gas station.

My favorite comment on the news site:

"Try 7 more times."

Sorry, but that just kicked over the giggle box, even though I'd be happy to have said mega kitty in my house.

When shelters are overcrowded, they should be allowed to dump the unwanted animals into the freedom of the city's outskirts. Either they'll die, or stay alive long enough to end up captured again and given another stint on display for a chance at adoption. Those that want to remain free will evade capture, those that want a respite from the hardship of scavenger will get their turn, and costs of running shelters will be kept down because the world and neglect will perform your executions for you.

My heart goes out to the poor little thing, and just as much so to those who are in shelters and will not be able find a good, loving home.

For god's sake please just spay and neuter your pets and quit buying from stupid breeders who don't follow the rules. There are sometimes low cost options for people who seriously can't afford it. It's a one time cost that will eventually help stop this kind of thing.

I know we all fall on hard times but if you can't afford to spay or neuter your pet, you probably can't afford to really have one in the first place.

Just imagine how many don't die and are just buried/incinerated alive, because the "shelter" employees don't care.

One part of town here has a problem with feral cats, to the point they were talking about issuing bow hunting permits, and another part has a problem with seagulls. Seems like an easy solution to trap, fix and vaccinate and relocate the cats...

They seem to have a fine method of fixing cats that aren't adopted already.

Releasing a species that likes to breed into an area with an ample food supply. What could go wrong?

SLC is really behind the power curve. The agencies on the coasts have mandatory spay and neuter on all animals going out of the shelters. As a result, fewer tractable cats and dogs are being euthanized. Gassing them? And putting the cat in a plastic bag? What the hell? Someone has a screw loose.

LincolnLogolas: Awww... poor thing. Shame that so many tamed cats wind up on the street. I've got a super-tame, sweet, idiotic, and very cute kitteh that someone ditched at a gas station.

One of my cats was most likely abandoned as a 9ish month old kitten. My ex's sister was working in a plain and a little cat walked up to her. He was meowing in stress at her and didn't have a collar or tags. Her boss wouldn't let her go home early to take the cat with her. So she told him to stay where he was and she'd come back for him. 2 hours later she returned in her car (she was there initially in company vehicles) and the cat was where she left him.

She took him home and had him looked over at the vet and given the proper shots. She lived at home and they had two dogs, one of which is a loud pushy jackass. She she called us and asked if we wanted a cat. We did and tome him home.

He was litter trained from the start and only scratched on scratching posts. He was nervous around me at first but took to girls easily, little schmoozer. He doesn't like new people. He's scared by them and hides. He also got outside once and apparently lost his mind. He ran from us and hid in the brush behind our home. Only after a week did he decide he had enough and started calling out to us and came out of hiding. So, with him being housebroken and willing to actually come up to a stranger I'm betting that he was someone's pet and had been alone for several days.

Him being skittish around others and taking to one person is part of his breed though. It turns out that he's a Nebelung, a fairly rare breed. He's an affectionate sweetheart though, so someone else's loss is my gain.

/My other cat came from a shelter. She was older (around a year) so no one wanted her, from what I was told. I'm glad I adopted her. She's energetic, playful, affectionate, and bat shait crazy like all women.

Waste not, want not. Why have a weapon capable of turning a cat into a pile of freshly browned hamburger in 3s if it doesn't also season said hamburger at the same time?

Yes, the cat came back. They thought he was gone,
But the cat came back. He just wouldn't stay away.
