I honestly expected more of a pounding from Over The Top: Automatons Rising.

The Thing was better than I expected and is worth seeing. I liked the special effects, especially the huge two headed armless spider crawley thing. Just make sure to stay through the first few end credits to see the final scenes.

Because at the theatre I was at Ides of March started just as The Thing ended, I snuck in to see that movie. For a top name cast, that movie kind of sucked. The plot was boring.

Family event beats too-sexy unnecessary remake. Nothing wrong with that. Sorry, Lisa Schwarzbaum.

A boring political movie? The hell you say!

OMG you farking mooch. Just kidding, I do the same thing too. The way I see it, I'm actually doing the theater a favor. If I see one movie, it's a 5 dollar matinee and then I leave. If I stay for a second movie, I end up spending 12 bucks for a bucket of popcorn and bottle of water. We all know that theaters make most of their profits from concessions so it's a win win. I'm such a great person for thinking of the little guy.

Only thing that looks halfway decent in theaters around here at this moment is 50/50.

I thought that Rock'em Sock'em Robots movie was a joke but there you go, our quest towards mediocrity continues.

So I'm assuming you saw it and hated it? I mean you wouldn't be so ignorant as to have an opinion on something you know nothing about, right?

That's a retarded objection. I don't need to watch a movie to decide if it's worth watching or not. I'm not commenting on Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots: The Movie (which looks workmanlike and pointless, like most films), but in general, there are many sources of information about a film that allows a prospective viewer to make a decision about it without needing to watch the film in its entirety.

Also, he said the film was on a quest towards mediocrity, not that it was bad. It was mediocre. Considering the trite plot, the mediocre special effects, and the fact that it involves a kid as a principle character, I don't think that's an unfair assessment in the least. The film gives every indication of being aggressively mediocre.

I just moved to The Bahamas. The best I can tell, there are only three movie theaters in the whole country. All three are multiplexes (11 and 6 screens in Nassau, 5 screens in Freeport). Auditoriums are smallish. Release dates seem to be the same as the U.S.

Does anyone even count the tickets that are sold here? Are we lumped in with the U.S. for purpose of numbers of countries movies are released in?

The company that owns the theaters is called Galleria. They are not, as far as I can tell, affiliated with any of the major theater chains. And they're not especially nice. I was wondering if that was because of the lack of a copyright law down here.

Having lived in the Bahamas, I'm going to go ahead and assume that what you're watching in the theatre is all bootlegs

True Steel or Footloose?

Projectile vomiting or explosive diarrhea? What a choice.

2011-10-16 09:10:32 PM
since everyone was hyper focused on the Footloose reboot and Rock em sock em robots, they barely paid attention to the Jack Black/Steve Martin/Owen Wilson steaming pile opening to the tune of 3.3 million. That should have been the headline.... $41 million down the drain.

Real Steel was actually a fairly decent movie. More of a retelling of Rocky than anything. Not great but enjoyable.

This is sad. The best option for me this weekend was to stay home and watch Repo Man.

No - you don't need to watch a movie to decide whether or not you think it will be worth watching. To actually determine the quality of the movie, you would still need to actually see it.
