Finally, a death metal band opposed to Christianity!

Well, not *every* death metal band was inspired by Stryper.*

*although Stryper may be the inspiration behind death metal's focus on bloody gore and dismemberment. (If you've ever seen Stryper, bloody dismemberment does spring to mind quite naturally....)

The new Immolation EP is great. It's also free (new window).

New (finally) Ne Obliviscaris (new window)

Direwolf (new window)

Mirrorthrone (new window)

Kadenzza (new window)

Is this why the music tab was put down?

For those of you that hate the new Opeth album, I just saw them on tour and I gotta say I'm a believer once again. No, they're not playing death metal anymore. But whatever you want to call them now (prog? technical folk metal?), it's definitely awesome.

I like the new album a lot. It's where the band has been heading ever since their second album - the death metal aspect of the music has gradually faded into the background. They've gone from a prog influenced death metal band, to a death metal influenced prog band. Heritage doesn't completely lack heaviness but it is full on prog.

I always thought it was because nobody could figure out what a Justin Bieber was, and it scared them.

I think the album is a bit interesting to listen to, though nowhere near the amount of thought and effort went into it (from a song structure viewpoint) as usual... . And good christ, their show at the Palladium in MA was just.... just.. dull as fark. All I can say is that I'm really glad I got to see them earlier.

Two more quick recs -

Goatlord - Blood Monk (new window)

Blasphemy - Fallen Angel of Doom (new window)

HighZoolander has become my go-to poster in here for good stuff since LOC stopped posting recs. I mean, everyone who posts recs here does a great job, but HZ always brings the awesome.

Crappy news over the last few days. Both Dismember and Candlemass are breaking up. Both bands always deliver and it's sad to see them go.

New Iced Earth is surprisingly good. I know most have written them off with the string of crappy albums and rotating vocal spot, but this album is damn good. Stu Block is like a mix of Barlow and Ripper.

HighZoolander: A few recommendations today -

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult - Underneath Stars of the East (new window; I'm totally smitten by the singer)

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult - Slaughtercult (new window)

dude nice, I just heard about this band a few days ago after I suggested DodsAngel to someone. I'm in love with her!!!

Thanks man :) I do miss the days when Leader O'Cola was frequently posting awesome recs. I really enjoyed seeing something new, and then spending a month trying to track it down, puzzling through websites in obscure Swedish dialects (ok, some of those may have just been poorly spelled English) trying to figure out if the buttons meant "order me" or "you're not worthy to hear the music". But they were worth the effort to find.

That is really sad about Candlemass. I was hoping for several more albums with Rob Lowe (Death Magic Doom was my favorite since Nightfall) - but at least we get one more next year. And the last from Cathedral too - next year will be a doomy year for doom.

Loved this. Thanks.

Wasn't bad either.

HighZoolander: Cebren-Khal - Where All Faith is Lost (new window)

Also enjoyed this. Thanks.

Anyone else waiting for the new Insomnium?

New Circle of Ouroborus album sounds like a blackish Joy Division. If that seems appealing to you, then you should definitely give it a listen.

Also apparently Isole have a new album that nobody told me about, so if you like epic doom metal similar to Candlemass, then this is another album you should listen to.

Rounding out the new albums you should listen to list: Solstafir's Svartir Sandar is pretty awesome. If you like what Enslaved is doing but want to hear it done better, then listen to Solstafir's last album Kold and then go listen to Svartir Sandar.

SPna15: Solstafir's Svartir Sandar

I hear a Morricone spaghetti western tinge throughout that track, especially in the quieter bits. Neat.

Nope...downloaded it many days ago.

Not what I meant, but fair enough.
