Some hilarious stories about Danica out there today.

No one in the garage wants to talk to her, and there's a story about her 'highlights', which has three items and one of them was that time she was booed.

Will be watching PIT vs JAC till that ends too -- will not try to mess it up

Hey, if Carpenter can repeat what he did last race, I'll be happy.

And if Will Power wins the championship and not that twit Franchitti.

I fell asleep during the F1 race. I saw that Vettel won. Anything else of interest?

Are they showing last week's race right now? It isn't official until both Maryeve Dufault and Milka Duno are multiple laps down.

Hah!:

Only one stretched beyond the confines of the parking lot, however, and that was the one for Patrick.

It has been this way since Patrick crashed the IndyCar party at the 2005 Indianapolis 500 and became the highest-ranking female ever with her fourth-place qualifying effort and then trumped that achievement by becoming the first women to lead a lap at the most famous oval race in the world.

Thanks to the admins (and our advocates) for giving us a thread.

Schumacher had a wreck with Petrov.

Weber lost his chance to make it a RedBull 1-2 because of an absolutely idiotic pit strategy call, but it led to quite a few exciting laps of him battling Hamilton.

Who was the idiot? Driver or crew chief?

I'm also glad to see Alex Tagliani has a ride for Vegas from Brian Herta Motorsport-- it was a classless move for Sam Schmidt to boot Tags in favor of Difficult Dan Wheldon.

Danica came about as close to saying 'F#ck These People' as she safely could in her pre-race interview.

And now we're getting a segment on Will Power's name.

We were speculating about that in the thread.

What happened is Hamilton was on the super-softs that were completely disintegrating, and Weber was right on his heels in the harder, longer lasting tires. Hamilton ducked onto pit road, and it was obvious all Weber had to do was knock off a couple fast laps before pitting to get by. Instead he goes into the pits right behind Hamilton on the same lap, and comes out of the pits behind.

If it was an impulse move by Weber, he's an idiot. But his team was out, so it's more likely a bad call by his team. They would've seen Hamilton's team out as well, known what tires he was on, etc. At best they wanted to pit before him, but that still means they farked up the timing.

/Great montage of Danica's fits by ABC
//She manages to be overhyped by the media yet underestimated by the haters

Blurred out Will Power birds!

Ha, they mentioned the double-bird at New Hampshire.

Also, apparently they aren't returning to NH next year. I has a sad; I was considering trying to go.

Looks like they're doing a street course in Detroit instead.

To review:

Win the war, then become the series you defeated.

I love my open wheel racing, but at this point they just need to burn the whole thing down and start from scratch

They need to get over whatever disagreement they had with ISC. That's killing the oval choices.

/IndyCars at Rockingham?

I think they'r trying to combine the best of IRL and the defunct CART series. If that a mixture of road course, ovals, and street courses(isn't that F1 stuff?), so be it. They're moving to a new car next season, and supposedly(if I understand correctly), in 2013 they'll be running non-spec cars.

Not that obvious. Hamilton on fresher tyres might have been quicker than Webber, so it's not guaranteed that staying out would gain the place. Webber coming in a lap earlier on the other hand... Even so, once Hamilton went for the pits it was probably worth a punt on staying out another lap. I think McLaren called it just right: Hamilton's tyres had fallen off the cliff, he only just managed to stop Webber passing, and they didn't keep him out a lap longer.

Unfortunately, a testament to open-wheel racing's rank among US fans: third, behind stock cars and drag racing. Which is unfortunate - open wheel racing can be entertaining. It's just a vastly different beast from stock cars.

These tracks were built for NASCAR when NASCAR was putting up huge numbers. First race at this track. Should be a good race. More interested in the TV numbers.

I have no doubt that this is going to be a good race. Remember when Texas was "too fast" for IRL?

When they were doing the radio thing showing all the engines fire? Did anyone think to themselves "Red 5 Standing By"

Yeah...because they were going ~230MPH and experiencing G-forces that pushed them to the edge of blacking out. Point? Las Vegas is a smaller track.

Still a looong way to go to make up for the decade+ tantrum.

jwrw: Not that obvious

Fair enough. Can we at least agree that before or after, coming in at the exact same time was the worst possible move? Except when there have been problems, there have been many more passes when when they stagger stops than when crews go head to head at the same time. You're right. McLaren called it perfectly.

It certainly seems they're taking the series right about to where it was in the late 80s/early 90s. Which just makes the whole split even more of a farce in retrospect.

2011-10-16 03:48:07 PM
So, if Dario wrecks Power on the warmup lap, he wins the tite, right?
