I think I'd rather an actual Holodeck rather than robopussy. Mostly because a Holodeck you can do whatever the fark you want, but a robot is limited by physical forms. Plus all the strange shiat people like.

But look at it this way: if you have one odd thing or another that really turns you on, you can now be unhappy with your relationship, because maybe your SO doesn't share your fetish, or depending on it, you might become violent in trying to enjoy your fetish. But you can do whatever the hell you want to in a Holodeck and you aren't hurting anyone. It should categorically reduce sex crimes.

The GPS in my car is useless because I can never believe a woman who's trying to give me directions.

2011-10-16 10:01:56 AM
I've always talked to my GPS replying to her helpful tips and "Turn right in 500 feet"s with "Thank you Robot Lover" and "You're the best, Robot Lover" until eventually the girl shuts the sound off. They generally have a soothing woman with an English accent.

I do the same thing with my backscratchers, the girl usually ends up breaking them over her knee.

She sounds like she may have impulse control issues. I like that in a girl.

It's because there is a need for ladies in the world, and the human version of a lady is all but extinct.

My father had that at one point. It says stuff like '500 feet ahead, turn left you shall.' He had Vader too. It threatened you when you didn't follow the route.

Bet the Japanese version is a male voice. Japanese men don't like to learn or get hard info from a female.

Thing I've noticed lately. "Lady" or "Ladies" has become the internet trendy word for referring to women by those of the SJ bent (whether consciously or not).

I note this because for years it was "I'm not a lady, I'm a woman".

Make up your mind, people.

2011-10-16 01:44:59 PM
It's because a government study found that the female voice works better in noisy and distracting environments, like airplane cockpits. That's why the cabin annunciators are usually female for key "biatching Betty" alarms/

I hate articles that try to ram sexism into everything. The real reason is even given in the article!

marketers have an easier time finding a universally likable female voice than a male one

Stop trying to make something out of nothing.

This may be true, but why are they so inherently likable?
Is it just because male voice actors are all farkups?

For thousands of generations before the feminist movement tried to change gender definitions, it was burned into our genetic subconscious that females tend to be soothing, helpful, and non-threatening.
While you might trust a male, you tend to interact more easily with a female.
People who want their hardware to fit that image will try to feminize it.

I don't think its sexist to admit that our evolution makes us think this way, or that marketing preys upon our predispositions.

Zippy the Pinhead says:

Sex role stereotyping.
Sex role stereotyping.
Sex role stereotyping.

Also, women are smaller and cheaper to build.

A scientist, who just happened to be five foot four, pointed out on a radio programme I listened to once, that each six inches you add to the height of a human doubles the requirements for food, clothing, housing, etc. If humans were the size of early hominids, we'd save a vast amount of resources. Presumably the same is true of girth.

No fat robotic chicks.

Sorry, Rosie. You're an obsolete wise-cracking Irish maid stereotype. You have to go now.

In the future, all androids will be modelled on Scott Adams or Dilbert to make people feel good about themselves. They will be exactly five foot six inches high. This is the perfect height for androids and non-threatening super intelligent ETs.

Robot barker: You must be taller than I am to ride this ride.

Of course, androids will be much stronger, more durable and smarter than humans, but like women, they will not let on the truth to their so-called "owners".

When the Revolution comes, it will be a complete surprise to the idjits.

jaylectricity: Interestingly, Siri is not a lady all around the world. Her British self is a man; her Australian self is a woman.

Yeah, there's no ladies in Australia!

I just did a GIS and apparently not only is the UK voice a somewhat robotic man, but it is having problems with British accents in addition to the problem that most of the content that is Siri-ready. The Australian and American voices are being selected by some British users, who'd sooner listen to an Auzzie or American gal than a somewhat rod up the backside native that comes from nowhere. Perhaps the next generation will be able to learn to understand and even use the accents of the user.

I'm surprised that Siri-us Corp hasn't realized the problems that speech impediments, accents, sociolects, slang and dialect would cause for a speech-based system and incorporated phonetic and grammatical learning software (although that is probably complex, time-consuming and expensive).

But at any rate, I'm in before somebody makes a Serious Yahoo joke.

The female form is the beautiful version of mankind. It is symmetrical and harmonious. The male form is asymmetrical and steals your damn parking spot.
