Can we take up a collection to send this principal a bunch of flashlights? You know, so she can locate and remove the stick that's wedged up her ass?

2011-10-15 06:58:05 PM
fark this shiat. I couldn't give a rat's ass about Thanksgiving but don't fark with Halloween, Goddammit. It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Actually, even though I don't personally care about Thanksgiving, fark her for canceling that too.

2011-10-15 07:27:28 PM
When i was in grammar school, the principal tried to pull the shiat once. The backlash from the parents was insane and they never did it again.

2011-10-15 07:57:04 PM
Yeah, this woman is clearly retarded and loaded down with WASP guilt. This political correctness thing across the US is just silly.

Immigrations?

Spend your time teaching kids seriously needed educational skills you coont. Leave the social mores to parents and spend less time being a reactionary twat on behalf of the world and focus on educating our youth which is so desperately needed.

2011-10-15 07:59:56 PM
wow, someone's house is getting egged this halloween...probably on thanksgiving as well.

2011-10-15 08:00:14 PM
Enjoy that shiat outside of school. Unless your curriculum is currently covering early American settlements, skip Thanksgiving. and lets stop lying to children. Columbus was an asshole, Pilgrims were incompetent, and Santa Claus only visits rich kids' houses.

There's no need drag retarded people down to this moron's level.

Here hun, have a tissue, a big cup of no one gives a fark and shut your farking mouth.

2011-10-15 08:00:51 PM
Ramadan still ok.

2011-10-15 08:01:13 PM
I think she should start by telling the teacher's union that the four day weekend for Thanksgiving has been canceled and they are expected to show up at work, on time and in appropriate clothing, just like every other day.

Yeah, that'll go over brilliantly.

2011-10-15 08:01:17 PM
Nice trolling headline subby. Nothing in the article said either holiday was cancelled.

2011-10-15 08:01:30 PM
F*ck you, Anne Foley. F*ck you right in the ass.

2011-10-15 08:01:32 PM
Since this is fox and the claim is a teacher has banned holidays, can we safely assume this is all made up and/or a hoax like the last eight times Fox has made this claim?

2011-10-15 08:02:04 PM
I doubt that most of those parents whinging about the kids having "too much homework and not enough playtime" are bothering to make sure their kids are doing the homework in the first place.

2011-10-15 08:02:14 PM

Oh, c'mon people. It's Slummerville, MA. Although it's a nice town and Davis Square is a great place to hang, it's still second fiddle to nearby Cambridge and Harvard University. The Mayor's probably pissed because the T still hasn't built the Green Line extension through the town.

This is the city that sees a new IKEA store as a threat. Really.

2011-10-15 08:03:24 PM
Sorry, I see it's a principal who's banning the holidays. Still, that town is a little off.

Someones insensitive that is for sure.

I think what we have here is a classic case of cranial rectal inversion. We'll need a wench.

I'm split on this issue. Certainly celebrating Halloween is a sin against God and should be discouraged. Thanksgiving on the other hand celebrates the greatness of God. Every day should be Thanksgiving.

I believe in the right to celebrate all of the hot women dressing up in ridiculously sexy outfits and drinking too much!

I applaud this principal's desire to focus on academics. Parties are for home. Thanksgiving and halloween will go on just fine once the clock looks like this:

The My Little Pony Killer: I doubt that most of those parents whinging about the kids having "too much homework and not enough playtime" are bothering to make sure their kids are doing the homework in the first place.

Can someone clarify the "whining" vs. "whinging" thing? The former seem correct to me while those who use the Queen's English apparently use the latter, no?

But yet if you pronounce each one, doesn't "whinging" come out as "winging" sine the "h" would presumably be silent?

/Apologies for the thread jack.
//yes, principal is a moron

The Somerville Mayor's response:

Standard pap and he does not answer the fundamental question of the principal lacking any common sense in this.

2011-10-15 08:10:31 PM
Durrrr, Principal can dress in in tri-cornered hat, with little porous bags on it, with some flakes of dried leaves inside the porous bags.

/Halloween is not about Witchcraft. It is about dressing up like the dead, so the dead that roam about on Halloween, don't eat you.
//Columbus was an ass, so we gave the Native Indians, Casino's, to make up for it. Right fat lady, with slot jockey arm.

Why the hell wouldn't some one want to celebrate the only day in history the cowboys and indians got along. The cowboys shot flightless birds, and the indians brought veggies to an unbeknownst otherwise vitamin deficient people. What could go wrong. It's not the white mans fault they cured our gout and we plagued them with farking disease. Throw me a freakin bone here people.

"When we were young we might have been able to claim ignorance of the atrocities that Christopher Columbus committed against the indigenous peoples," Kennedy School Principal Anne Foley wrote.

What does Christopher Columbus have to do with Plymouth Colony?

No, I meant wench...it's just more fun that way.

Principal is trying to be too PC but there's no need to celebrate holidays during school hours - that's not what school is for. Since she can't ban celebration of the holiday outright, this article and most of the comments here are absurd overreactions.

I think they accidentally/incompetently edited out some Columbus day ban references as well.

Nah. Eggs are for minor-offending idiots who hand out pencils or Jack Chick tracts. This biatch is trying to outlaw Halloween and Thanksgiving itself, and is gonna get all sort of......... biological matter............ hurled at her place.

TFerWannaBe: that's not what school is for.

While I do understand this opinion, I would warn that it can go too far.

Part of the advantage of public schooling (And by public here I don't mean "state owned," I mean "attended by many members of the society, not home-schooled) is to help develop socialization skills and communicative order. Students don't just learn facts/skills, but also learn how to function properly within a society. If we look at Piaget's idea of developmental constructivism, we see that at younger ages, children learn concrete cognitive applications from their peers as well as their authority figures.

Now, that said, bringing in cupcakes and letting the kids run wild =/= cognitive construction. But, having a "party" and doing constructive activities, even ones that don't seem like they are raw learning, can still be learning. For example, putting students in groups of three or four and asking them to write out five reasons they like Halloween, or their favorite things about Halloween. It coerces the students to constructively come to conclusions as a cohort and then explain them to a larger audience.

And, you know, have cupcakes along with it.

TL;DR = Socialization is an important thing to learn. And can lead to learning.

I don't know about you, but my family celebrated thanksgiving on thanksgiving, which is a day off school-wise. Halloween is celebrated at night on Oct 31st, which is after school hours. Columbus day is not a school day.

If the principal doesn't want to interupt the school day with Columbus day/thanksgiving/Halloween parties, fine with me. No one is stopping anyone from trick-or-treating, eating turkey, or buying a mattress outside of school hours.

Kids are kids and not machines. You think making school even more unpleasant to be at will make them want to learn more? Lack of morale does not increase productivity.

2011-10-15 08:33:25 PM
Yeah, we wouldn't want schools to focus on academics instead of local holidays. Think your kids deserve a great halloween? Awesome. Now go throw them one.

Nice job spelling Massachusetts, subby!

From the staff directory. It looks like nepotism may be alive and well in Somerville.

Foley, Anne - Principal

Foley, Dan - Technology Specialist / Trainer

I wonder if that's her husband? Just asking the question. The appearance of impropriety and all that...

You can send her an email from here congratulating her on her academic prowess and cultural insight, if you're into that. ;)
Foley, Anne - Principal (new window)

That woman is a definate buzz kill for the kids.
That's right there is no time for this kind of stuff.
Kids in school have enough on their plate with sex education, learning about gays, lesbians, trans genders, and bi-sexuals.
What about all those female teachers raping the young boys? And God forbid they should show up with an image of a gun, or bring in a bag of peanuts.
Kids shouldn't have time off for traditional holidays and spend time with family and absorb some healthy values.

Pricipal . Caught sayof school that has stoped Halloween.

/a witch hunt? In Massachussetts? It's more likely than you think...
