This is a very interesting concept which has worked in molecular chemistry in the recent past.

I look forward to helping design the device which will enslave me and the rest of mankind. Muhahahahaha

Future conversation

Father: Son, do you see that government drone watching our every move just waiting for us to break any of the thousands of state and federal laws on the books which our government rarely tells us were created?
Son: Yes dad.
Father: I helped design that!
Son: WTF???

Come on DARPA, where's my Skynet??

The reason they are crowd sourcing the drone designs is because *they have already been made by the open hardware crowd*.

I've been working on my own quadrocopters for awhile, and they pretty much already meet the specifications of the DARPA contest.

SWIM intends to use them for the good of the people during the upcoming class wars though, not give them to The Man.

Yep. The government buys shiat like that out of skymall that's controlled by an iphone. It costs peanuts compared to designing a system from scratch.

They have a button that can make everybody in the world shiat simultaneously, and orbital speakers that will blare Yackety Sax as everyone scurries around trying to deal with their pantload.

It's great that citizens are being encouraged to equip themselves with their own weapons creations in other countries - for use (eventually) against US troops.

Farking genius. The US has indeed gone full blown retard

The military has been crowd-sourcing since long before the USA existed. Seems eminently sensible to me, to get the widest range of ideas.
