so, some douchebag didn't like how fast people were driving and decided to unilaterally lower the speed limit... are they going to refund the difference in fines to people who were ticketed in that area?

2011-10-15 02:28:47 PM
Just the traffic version of 'get off my lawn'.

Impotent farging bastages raging against those who do not kowtow to their world view.

Mercifully, a natural death solves most of these problems.

No street should be less than 35mph, especially a main road.
You aren't saving lives at 25mph, you're just increasing revenue for the city from tickets, and making people ride their brakes.

People drive too slow these days. Is everybody stoned or something?

This country is full of nosey control freaks.

2011-10-15 02:47:56 PM
That's pretty awesome. It shouldn't be up to a single individual to do this though... it should start at city hall.

My city of 400,000 has recently lowered all speed limits from 50km/h (30mph) to 40km/h (25mph) and has created new school and park zones of 30km/h (18mph). City hall has also created hundreds of dedicated pedestrian crossings, they've widened a bunch of sidewalks and created some where there were there none to begin with.

The battle to reduce automobile dependency and promote livable, walkable cities continues :)

25 is bad enough, making people ride behind old blue hairs that are going 18 mph is first class asshattery.

I understand lowering it in a neighborhood. Am I the only one that would have raised them on a nice twisty backroad somewhere?

I get lowering the speed limit where my family live, as long as I'm still able to do 50 past the shops and schools in other places then I'm OK with this. I mean, if a kid sees my car going really fast he/she will be too scared to cross the road making it safer for everyone and it means I don't have to slow down. Therefore I can leave a few minutes later and get to work on time, because I am a COMPLETE farkING DOUCHE WHO SHOULD BE STERILIZED OR DIAF.

Statute of limitations has expired. Turd in question could march right into city hall, in front of the Police Chief, and the city council, confess their sins, and the city wouldn't be able to do anything to them. Well, at least most likely. This is Utah, home of the Utards, so there is no telling how their laws work.

He only lowered it 5mph? Most speedometers have that much tolerance built in. If you're gonna tamper with signs then do it big.

For some odd reason the township here decided EVERY residential intersection needed stop signs. Never mind the fact that in the last 60 years it hasn't been a problem. One residential road has a speed limit of 25 with a stop sign right in the middle. No intersection or anything just a random sign. If one of those new ones had gone up in my yard it might have disappeared the next evening.

I don't think anyone was advocating doing 50 through school zones. However, I'd like to sign up for your sterilization program. I'm not too big on the DIAF one, though. I'll just take sterilization and be on my way. Thanks.

They could be identified in the public record and the papers, and everyone who paid a bogus ticket due to his actions could get that money from him.

Or take it out of his ass.

If the city can get money out of it, you better believe they'd try to find a way to make an exception.

Lowering it to 15 would be a bit extreme, my spedometer doesn't even kick in until I hit 20.

Not entirely true. Here in New Orleans the streets are old, narrow, and crowded with parking on both sides. 25 is about as fast as you can go without guaranteeing hitting a bicyclist, dooring someone, or hitting a mirror. Or another car that you can't see.

I'd bet a dollar that when the State says they don't know who put up the lower speed signs, what they really mean is that they finally caught up with the Citys illegal speed trap, but are too polite to call them on their crap.

Sounds like the muffler bearings are bad. Or a possibly a loose caniglar pin.

We have some back roads around here that have a speed limit of 55, but if you tried to do 55 on them, you'd end up running off the side of a mountain or kissing a tree.

Actually, intake manifold leaks WILL do that. Lets in unmetered air past the throttle body, the computer will add fuel to ensure a proper burn, and you get an exceptionally high idle.

All it does is produce grid lock. Was hoping all the national dialogue over "infrastructure" would address some of our roads but all that came of that was a few pet projects.

Some areas are completely unliveable. Like Boston, unless you can afford a multi-million dollar house in cambridge you can look forward to a 2 hour commute everyday. Absolutely nonsensical traffic problems are never fix, like having two highways merge into two lanes, back traffic up for 20 miles everday, yet will never get fixed as the elites are more concerned with their bike paths and property values.

Fark that. I don't know how anybody lives like that.

The approach road to Mt. Rainier National Park is 50 MPH, and this is the only explanation I can think of for that, because I was doing 25 and spinning out on some of the curves.

/Also, any Montana or Canadian road near Glacier and Waterton National Parks. 65 MPH WTF.
