I'm sure the comparative state of their respective careers is of some comfort to her.

I do see her lawyers' point on the 'consumer confusion'. But it seems pretty flimsy, and a waste of time. My money's on this simply being a case of her legal team trying to justify their bill. Odds are she didn't even hear about this story until after it hit the press.

After reading the lyrics she wanted to prevent, I see no difference between their quality and the quality of what she would actually write. Attention whore wants her some attention. In another few days, she'll recant and let them do what they want.

A strange thing to say about someone who can play AND compose music. Do a search on YouTube for Stefani Germanotta. The girl can sing AND play piano AND write her own stuff. She's not as cryptic and poor as Tori Amos, but they do the same stuff. Oh, and LG can dance and has a rockin' bod

LewDux: She's actually a very talented individual. She an accomplished pianist, and a soulful singer. She crosses the line with every concept imaginable, makes a new one, and crosses that line as well... her Off-the-Wall fashion and demeanor is grabbing everyone's attention. Negative or positive doesn't make a difference to her, because it sells records. She's a genius.

Has she done a classical record? No? Has she done a jazz record? No? Blues? No? Country? No? Written an opera? Or even a sequence of songs that are all related other than being on the same album together? No? She doesn't cross every line imaginable by any means. She is a pop artist. I like a lot of her songs, they're fun and catchy, but nothing I've heard by her yet strikes me as something I won't find dated in 5 years, and I doubt any of it will be remembered a generation now.

She is talented, but not exceptionally so. And frankly she's not stellar looking by any means, so the outrageous outfits are sadly required for a female artist to compete in the pop genre if they're plain looking.

But take a look at your posts. You make the claim that her lyrics are all about being yourself regardless of what others think, and they admit that she does stuff explicitly for press to sell records, which is pretty much the antithesis of "being yourself". She is putting on a show to make money. Stop pretending she's somehow different than the multitude of other artists out there doing the same.

As for the original topic. If it's a parody, then I imagine there are still limits to it. If Lady Gaga never sings about material things and being a spoiled brat, of even anything approaching it, then it wouldn't be a stretch for her lawyers to argue that the song is more like slander than parody.

But I guess I wasted 45 seconds of my life commenting on fark, so she's got that going for her (him?).
