(Miami Herald) Florida The drop-off in foreclosures killed off the main source of income for Florida's court system, putting it on the brink of bankruptcy and necessitating an emergency $45m loan. Ironic tag robosigns an affidavit with Florida tag's signature   (miamiherald.com) divider line 21

Lawmakers will convene their annual 60-day session on Jan. 10.

That's one thing Florida does right. We're in the middle of 60 days of bribe taking just to decide one bill, casino gambling.

So who were the farking retards that based the courts financing on continued failure?

/and why do they hate America?

Shortfall? Doesn't sound like a problem for Gov. Scott. He can lower the taxes on businesses, and install drug testing for State workers. Before they can cash their paychecks, they'd have to prove the money was earned while working drug-free. Finally, one more tax cut and viola. The shortfall is fixed.

Unnecessary. Just give the banks the power to foreclose on any property they want to, regardless of legitimacy. Remove any and all requirements for them to prove anything. They'll start foreclosing on all the best properties, and clog the courts right back up again. Of course, if you can afford to pay a hefty "foreclosure avoidance fee", they can't foreclose on you. We wouldn't want the wealthy folks to start losing their property, after all!! That would be madness.

It's really win-win. The courts get their funding, and the banks get to confiscate properties at will and then sell them for a profit. Sure, a few poor and middle-class folks might lose their homes, but who gives a fark about those people? If they didn't want their property seized, they shouldn't have been poor.

The "foreclosure avoidance fee". Is that the new deadbeat euphamism for "contractual monthly mortgage payment"?

Please don't give the Florida GOP any ideas. They've already got legislation in the pipeline that essentially strips death row inmates of their 8th Amendment right just because one of them overheard some shmuck at a Waffle House say we oughta just throw 'em all into a vat of acid or somesuch, and I don't know how many of those legislators lurk Fark.

How the fark did the Florida court system function before 2008?

or did it just get bloated in the meantime and they can't possibly lay off any judges could they???

How about mandatory drug testing for state officials? That will re-clog the system up again.....

I'm curious how they ran up that big a shortfall when they set up very small, very efficient, foreclosure courts, staffed with retired judges.

The whole budget shouldn't have been 1/2 that.

Now this is what is wrong with this country. Dependency upon bad outcomes. Same kind of thing would happen if we ended the drug war with regards to police. Many cities would go bankrupt if we stopped seizing drug money. I wonder how many more government institutions would have problems if life got better or at least if people failed less.

You want to know why the banks got bailed out when the economy crashed?
You want to know why the homeowners who lost jobs as a result received no help?
You want to know why everyone turned their heads when homeowners were losing their houses at an impossible rate?
You want to know why the bankers who knowingly created this disaster are still walking free instead of rotting in jail?

There it is.

You're right but man it makes me sick.

You know those Lion Ants that make the funnel sand traps that helpless insects fall into? The sides of the trap are so steep and the sand has no traction, so that no matter how hard the insect tries it will eventually fall down the funnel into the waiting jaws of the Lion Ant. Sometimes I think we are the insects.

How many water and electricity providers are raising their rates to compensate for the fact that people are conserving more?

Answer - lots.
