This month's Martha Stewart has cool screwdrivers in it - with the black vodka floating above the orange juice. Very Hallowe'en-y. But I can imagine the above-mentioned grey grossness once it was stirred.

A few years ago me and some buddies had a Halloween party.
After drinking Shiner (we got a keg) since 1:30 that day, come about 10:00 that night some guy start pouring shots. That's wasn't so bad downing shots, until he convinces me to take a shot of Everclear. Fortunately 20 beers and 8 shots got me drunk enough that I didn't even taste the shiat. And I was so hammered that I don't even remember most of that night. But I do know I never threw up and I was really hot and heavy making out with some chick at the party.
For what I understand I had fun that night.

Any liquor that relies on a lame gimmick to sell (like food coloring or bits of gold leaf) probably isn't made with the finest ingredients to begin with.

Buy a bottle of Ketel One instead.

Looking at the cocktail ideas I was wondering does the stuff float - meaning it doesn't mix well?

Having the vodka float on top of the drink sounds kind of disgusting, unless it's really good vodka. Personally, my favorite vodka is Svedka for the smoothness and price.

I've had Blavod. It's just middle-to-average vodka that happens to be black. Now Stoli Vanil in coke is to die for.
