Plan B is to dye his hair blonde and pretend to be Philip Seymour Hoffman. He has the glasses and the body, but it's tough to change his eyes from vacant and adorable to intelligent and calculating. The closest he's gotten is a cross between Michele Bachmann and David Tennant.

I'm going to presume he meant to say, "I once had a dream of becoming an actor."

He woke up and realized he still SUUUUUUUCKED?

Didn't he do all the physical aspects of that in Tropic Thunder?

I would imagine the severe case of mental retardation may have had something to do with it.

I really want to like him, but most of what he's done has been pretty forgettable, at best. Loved the Pick of Destiny, but he's been pretty meh for the most part.

The problem with Jack Black is that it is impossible for him to not play Jack Black.

2011-10-14 05:42:37 PM
The only role he excelled in was in The Jackal.

FTFY

Also, he was awesome in High Fidelity, where he played Jack Black.

Personally, I don't think he's done well in any live-action roles, although he does a decent job in Kung Fu Panda voicework.

Oh yeah, that's why I've always wanted to like him. He was great in High fidelity. So was everyone else.

I hear he's been getting ready and doin' cock pushups.

I thought he was pretty funny in Tropic Thunder, where he played Jack Black.

And he turned in a solid performance in School of Rock, where he played Jack Black.

Yes, I have to agree that Jack was really good as Jack Black, but there wasn't much else to like about that movie, least of all the sentimental ending.

There were two things I thought were funny - Jack's " Your kids have touched me..... and I'm pretty sure I've touched them too." line, and the stereotypical rock band in the contest at the end - true to life at that sort of event.

Perhaps, but it's a kids a movie. And I don't say that in the George Lucas sense of "it's a kids movies so you have no business complaining about annoying comic relief characters or mind-blisteringly childish dialogue", but rather "it's a kids movie and the sentimental ending was well-suited for the target audience". Plus, it has inspired real life "rock schools" for kids. So it's got that going for it. Which is nice.

He is an actor I really want to like, but some shiat is just unbearable. What the hell was that Year One crap. I haven't seen Gulliver's Travels, but the billboards for that movie were just one large Jack Black crotch shot with the little people.

Kung Fu Panda was good, voice acting might be his niche.

/Tenacious D songs are excellent to cover at parties.

Also, he was awesome in High Fidelity that episode of Yo Gabba Gabba, where he played Jack Black a tubby hallucinating hipster manchild.

gulliver's travels is a goddamn travesty. there is SUCH a good movie to be made out of that material, and they simply screwed it up. not to mention jack was just wrong in the role.

Jack Black.... OH!! That guy who was in the movie Bob Roberts (new window)

If Jack Black is in something, I don't watch it.*

(* Exception: Mr. Show. He was in a couple segments, but you can skip over them.)

There's also a nicely understated sight gag where all the parents drive identical Volvo wagons. So maybe I was a little harsh.

He hasn't been funny since Animal House and Blues Brothers.

2011-10-14 07:44:15 PM
Meh, I think he can act, I just don't think that he's always made the best choices. I thought he was really good in the remake of King Kong as a sorta Orson Wells gone to seed character. He wasn't really the biggest problem with that movie. It just needed to be edited.

A lot.

I don't care if subby was just trolling, Year One was his crown jewel, his 'tour de force,' his... flash in the pan.

/he knows he's not the best hunter

As a guy who creates goofy comedic music with one other guy, I have to say that I like jack black, however I agree that often times he just plays 'jack black' and thats not for everybody. I absolutely loved Pick of Destiny for the music, liked Nacho Libre because I love wrestling, and thought year one was pretty hilarious. Gullivers Travels wasnt bad if you just let yourself be entertained by a kids movie and his voice work is even jack black being jack black.

like I said, he's not for everyone, but man I wish I could have a career out of just being myself.

/didnt like Tropic Thunder, for a cast that funny it didnt transition well.
//Dio has rocked for a long long time.

Tenacious D kicks enough ass that I will be a fan of his even if everything else he does sucks.

He has songs of wildebeests and angels.

You know, that's mean, but it couldn't be more true. I remember seeing him on Mr. Show and thinking, "Damn, that guy is good!" Then there was Tenacious D, and it was like, "Okay, this dude is going places."

And then he did go places. Just not good places.

Neeek: He was entertaining as Aspartamay.

This made me giggle.

I will always dig Jack Black if only for Tenacious D. I saw them in concert an it was absolutely hilarious.

Yeah, what the fark were you doing in "Year One", Mr. Black? I haven't seen a piece of shiat that big, since I saw what the triceratops made in "Jurassic Park".
