If they'd tacked on a 25% "service charge" on all the lemon-poppyseed muffins and frosted cookies, however, they'd have sailed on unhindered. Get with the times, you freaking babies!

Instead of chants and bullhorns, the protest in San Francisco's Lower Haight on Oct. 2 featured bourbon apple walnut crumble pie and Madagascar vanilla ice cream con sea salt.

"Con" sea salt? Does that mean something other than "with" in this context, or is it just intended to be ultra-pretentious? If so, the whole thing should be in a foreign language, not just that word.

Headline is a bit misleading. There were no preschoolers involved. It was adults representing a nursery. And there were only 3 sentences dedicated to it.

The article was mostly about amateur chefs trying to sell their homemade food, get their business started, and/or get their name out there at small gatherings. The city is busting their balls for not having permits or imaginary health code violations. They conquered the major meetup event and now smaller ones are sprouting up. The man is all biatchy because these rebel amateur chefs don't have permits and everyone's going to get sick and die even though no reported cases of sickness ever cropped up from the major meetup they shut down.

Next thing you know, the amateur floral arrangers will be taking to the streets with their wheelcarts and NO PERMITS! IT WILL BE MADNESS! People dying from plant-transmitted diseases in the streets.

We wouldn't want people doing honest capitalism. You know, actually taking the time out of your day to bake goods with your own two hands, standing outside, having to live off of your own hard-earned profits, driving competition and innovation... can't have that. It's better to just have people work dead-end jobs and be at the mercy of shareholders.

Torn between two thoughts, What the foodies didn't realize the City is going after every dime not nailed down (well except the financial district)? They really thought they could get away with not paying sales tax? pffttt do they live here?

If they gave samples away they could get buzz and not have to pay taxes.

People like to believe that there's a big difference between the liberal left and religious right, and they're right, but only when you look at the little picture.

Both groups have the same goal in mind - the government should be entirely responsible/in control of your life, for your own good - they just use different tactics to get there.

At a certain point, strong socialism is just as restrictive to personal freedoms (like being able to have a bake sale) as fascism. In fact, at that point, the two are indistinguishable to the prole.

So don't be surprised that this happened in SF. It's no different from banning hate speech for the good of the community.

Article: That was a mistake and won't happen again.

Subby Fail.

I don't see why food fairs like that can't pop up. Just make them have signage that says "Methods of cooking conditions and packaging of all goods has not been inspected or approved by the Health Department. Consume at you own risk." Then make fines HUGE for these vendors that cause an outbreak of food poisoning (like $25,000 or $50,000). If people still want to buy and consume food at their own risk, then who cares? The fine will just make people more careful preparing their dishes.

I'm never a fan of idiot city busy bodies forcing permits; however, to be devil's advocate, I can see the health risk. 99% of people are going to be careful to be clean and sanitary, but that tiny 1% will be a farking slob and start a salmonella outbreak.

In reality, I've only had one issue from a bake sale. We bought a cake from a cub scout bake sale and it ended up tasting terrible; like stale cigarettes and dirt. Apparently, the "baker" was a chain smoker.

If you choose to live in a place that has rules like a HOA, then you deserve the harrassment you allow.

I live in vermont, home of church chicken pie suppers, and hunter's breakfasts.
My town had a father's day brunch that I choked down, one year.
I volunteered and cooked the next year with my own hand picked crew of former chefs, and knocked their farking socks off.
Next year, we're doing a real 5 star line with omlette bar and individual sized quiches. Word got out and we are being asked about the menu already.

You're only as good as your farking cooks, anyway.

Most bake sales suck. Because most of the people running or cooking them aren't professional bakers.

I've never met a woman from the middle east who knew fark-all about how to cook with phyllo dough, either.

I do a bake sale, I do baklava or napoleons, depending on the temperature of the room that they will be sold out of. I donate quality stuff because I care about the charity I'm working for.

Permits should not be revenue generators for goverenment jerks to take a cut of a donation.
That's what OWS is all about, crap like that.

Strange because many more news agencies than Faux were reporting about the proposed ban of circumsion in San Francisco that is to be voted on this November. As to it being drivel I agree with you there. This law is drivel. And why the fark would anyone want to open up the door for legislation that could later be used against how parents raise their kids. I could give a rats about circumcision, but children being indoctrinated into ANY religious faith before they have any kind of understanding of what it truly entails is something that will definitely affect the kids future life. I'd like to see that law on a ballot.

But you have your opinion on the fact of circumsions for kids (for farks sake) which comes down to nothing more than competing opinions. Or maybe the drivel I read hasn't reported there are serious mental/physical health ramifications to a circumsion. But feel free to support the intrusion of legislation into the lives of people making their own decision based on your personal feelings of it. Let's hope you never decide to disagree with fair laws and treatments of any other people or actions you deem to be wrong.

And here's some more articles that reported the drivel on the circumcision ban. Hopefully one of them meets your criteria for drivel-less, credible news agencies.

Dunno about how Google results are coming up for you, but the very first one for me says that the proposed law won't be on the ballot. As in not only did the law not pass, but it didn't make it very far in the process.

So to go back a step, there's always a bunch of crazy proposed laws -- a few of them make it on to the ballot, but most are scrapped before then. The circumcision one falls into that category, despite what certain unscrupulous news agencies reported.

Uh, you realize you basically just proved everything he said. There is no current law. Yes, there is a ballot proposal. A proposal is not a law. With enough signatures you can get anything on the ballot.
