Well what passes for education in our schools is a crime too. Maybe if kids were fully engaged in learning cool stuff instead of having the living fark bored out of them by major boring shiat all day long there'd be less sociopathology in schools. But then you do what you learn, don't you?

Only in school. Other times being a jerk is called living in Massachusetts.

Heh.

I was at the wedding of this one dude who used to torment me unmercifully in Junior high and during the reception, he asked me if his behaviour back then bothered me. I said,"Ya know Columbine? I had no access to those sorts of weapons, but if I did, you would have been first on the list". He seemed a little shaken after that. Nice girl he married, though.

Sounds like he knew the bride. And then he told the groom he would have killed him if he had the chance in Junior High (hyperbole I assume). Why the subject was brought up is beyond me.

CSB time:

One of my friends was bullied when we were kids (hell I was too, but he was a foot shorter than everyone in the school). It really affected him and by sophomore year he had dropped out, started slinging drugs, and generally fell into a life of shiat. I stopped contact with him because I was worried he would drag me down too (this was after bailing him out once, talking to him and trying to get him to clean up, no luck at all).

Fast forward 5 years and I'm at a party that his sister is holding (she had been out of the country for 2 year) and I see my old friend. Turns out he hit a REALLY low point, got his shiat together, and is now a manager of a Dave & Busters (just won employee of the year this year). This was the biggest turn around I had ever seen in someone's life.

Well turns out one of the worst bullies from our middle school came to that D&B a couple weeks ago. He was still a spoiled titty-baby who hadn't worked a day in his life and just a general piece of shiat. He started making a ruckus and my buddy got to get in his face and tell him off completely. After finding out who he was, the old bully tried to start a fight (they never change) and my buddy got to call the cops and have him arrested. He said it was one of the most satisfying calls he had ever made, and it was nice to see cops show up and arrest someone else for a change.

Douches. To be fair, we can get derogatory about people from all 50 states. The more thin-skinned, the better, which makes Texans especially fun. Calling someone from Massachusetts a jerk generally gets a "meh".

The Montgomery 16th Street Church bomb occured in 1963. There was a conviction for it in 2002. There are people out there still hunting former Nazis, and they are all in their 80s and 90s.

If it wasn't for Joe Kennedy's money, Ted Kennedy wouldn't have been a blue collar worker. He wouldn't have gotten into Harvard the first time and definately not the second time after he was kicked out for cheating.

But back on topic - there seems to be some sort of weird hormone or something that causes people who are in high school to be total dicks.

Bullies are people who hate themselves.
Abused at age six, or molested at twelve.
So they pick on others, isn't it odd?
Because their real quarrel is with God.
Who's afraid of a bully?
Me!
Not me!

For there are much better things to be frightened of.
Like people of color and gay homo love.
So stand up to the bullies, stand tall and true!
Just like Jesus stood up to those misguided jews.
Wow, you're right!
Now who's afraid of a bully?
Not me. No, not me!
When you stand up to that bully --
He'll flee!
Oh yes, he'll flee like the pathetic, insecure, cowardly loser he be.

I think the fact that people who were tormented by bullies want to inflict physical harm on the bully is pretty obvious. What is with the name calling?

They need to drag the parents in as well if they want any real change. Most bullies learn to be assholes at home, one way or another. They tend to either have abusive parents, or parents who were bullies themselves and see nothing wrong with, and often encourage that type of behavior.

I think there's a distinction to be made here between normal bullying (name-calling, scuffling, general jack-assery), and the more extreme version, that in an adult context would otherwise be called assault, stalking, and generally grounds for a restraining order.
I faced a few instances of normal bullying in school...name-calling was exchanged, followed by a few punches, then it was over. But what some of these kids are describing nowadays seems more like systematic torture by a group of junior sadists.

2011-10-14 12:09:47 PM
Looking back on school... man we were some farked up kids.

I got there not really caring to interact with anyone I didn't have to. There were a few kids who used to beat the hell out of me, but I have a high tolerance for pain, so physical abuse tends not to actually upset me. They were the only ones I really talked to, so we became friends. They weren't really unpleasant people, just had such shiat lives that I think hitting me was the only time they could release anger and feel in control of something.

The ones who actually bothered me weren't the kids who hit me, but the ones who just specifically set out to make me angry and/or miserable. Stealing stuff, yelling insults, that kind of thing. However, because they weren't really physically stronger than me (or just not good at fighting, whatever) eventually each one reached the point where I just got sick of it and tried to strangle them, use their head as a battering ram, or trounce them with the nearest object. So then they learned to pick on weaker targets.

Strangely enough, that meant some weaker kids used to hang around me because these ones kept their distance. By that time I'd learned from my other friends that basically how friendship works in school is that there's a pecking order of people who beat up other people, but we tend not to upset each other, just hurt one another. So I had friends who I used to beat the hell out of, and friends who used to beat the hell out of me. But actual bullies tended to keep fairly distant from most of us.

I think every single one of us dropped out of school early. Nobody was getting anything of use from it. After that we just never spoke again, because really, why would you?

/high school is a waste of life
