Beer? Take it up a notch! Pitch a perfect game on acid, then we can talk.

I see Dan is Spraining News again. Good thing the Mothership isn't apart of Fark Sports any more. They would be shating bricks. Dan has been in 2 Fark thread in less than 24 hours.

I've actually started liking him a lot more since he's been on the fox pregame, mainly because it feels like he's rooting for the tigers but...

Yeah, so? Drinking beer in the clubhouse has always been around. Like sneaking into the clubhouse for a cigarette between innings.

Watching baseball without beer would be hell. I can't see how playing it would be any different.

I know it's common, and I know players of the past did all kinds of crap, but these guys ar paid to play the game at th ehighest level. It's just unprofessional, no matter what team you play for.

Even as a Sox fan I really don't care.
Tell me his stats on days when he has some drinks and if they are markedly worse than I care. If he is same, better, or even slightly worse I don't care. Its a long season out there.

This. If he is falling over drunk then it is a problem. Plus I wonder how many people are going to biatch about this being unprofessional and how the fans pay their salary with their co-workers while they are enjoying their beer and cocktails on their lunch hour.

He clarified his statements saying he doesn't have a full beer but will have a couple sips. He may be covering his tracks there but this isn't a big deal. As an athlete, I'm sure they have so much adrenaline going that it might actually help to have a beer and calm down a bit. Having half or a whole beer isn't really going to inhibit you in any way on the field.

Joe Pepitone (OF) - Three time all-star and Gold Glove winner Pepitone wrote in his 1975 memoir that he once shared a joint with Mickey Mantle before a spring training game. Mantle had never had marijuana before. He struck out four times in that game and spent much of his time in the dugout giggling. He told Pepitone, "I don't know what that shiat is, but keep it away from me."

I was really hoping that this story would be related to FARK sponsoring a little league team called the White Sox. Then, I read the tags and the thread.

I am not in any way, shape, or form a professional athlete. However, I do enjoy a good morning jog. I've been known to slam a beer beforehand, and there isn't any noticeable effect in my fitness.

Further anecdotal evidence- the sheer number of Soldiers in the US Army who participate in daily physical training with a massive hangover. There's no finer cure for Irish Flu than an 8-mile run.

Wasn't Kevin Mitchell in the middle of drinking a beer in the Mets clubhouse during the rally in Game 6? Pretty sure he had to run out to the dugout from the clubhouse in a hurry. I know Hernandez was drinking, thinking the series was lost.

Except that the Red Sox just had the biggest regular season collapse in baseball history, so maybe things like drinking in the locker room is a bigger issue than it normally is.

undercurrent: anyone else think AJ Pierzynski is a sack of shiat?

No. I love A.J. In fact, I named one of my cats after him. The other one is Buehrle.

That being said, did anyone really think that players don't have the occasional nip in the clubhouse? It's a long season. I think it's fine for any player from any team (except those with alcohol problems, of course) to partake a little if they know their limits.

They're not school bus drivers. They're baseball players.

Beer? It's probably shiatty water-with-flavoring like Bud or Miller Lite or PBR. When they're slugging back this
