Superman is a pussy. It wouldn't happen that way. Batman would kryptonite the shiat out of him. Yes, I know it's suppose to be funny. But, the nerd in me won't let that one pass.

I would've loved to have seen Kevin Smiths Superman movie get made, solely to ensure he never made another movie.

I'm still holding out for Marvel to reboot The Fantastic 4. Those first two movies were garbage. I think the characters deserve better.

I gotta be honest, not knowing anything about the Superman mythos as it exists in the comics, I've always thought the JJ Abrams' script sounded kind of awesome.

Especially since Batman has a bunch of kryptonite specifically for defeating superman. Was it Justice League Unlimited where he had files on all of his friend's weaknesses and secret identities?

DamnYankees: I gotta be honest, not knowing anything about the Superman mythos as it exists in the comics, I've always thought the JJ Abrams' script sounded kind of awesome.

Apparently JJ Abrams never read Superman either. That why it sounded awesome to him.

I am looking forward to the Man of Steel. Nolan and Snyder may make a great team. Nolan has the story stuff down, Snyder definitely knows how to do action.

I'm not a picky person about my Superhero films. I've Loved the Nolan Batmans, X-Men first class, X-Men, 1-2, The first two Spider Mans and the First Iron man. I enjoyed Thor, Capetian America, Edward Nortons Hulk and Blade.

But some just suck outright., Jonah Hex, Batman and Robin, Punisher, Daredevil. and the list is endless...sadly. Green Lantern had a lot of potential, but was ultimately wasted. I did enjoy Ryan Reynolds performance. These are the film that could have been so much better.

I think so. Didn't it have something to do with a JLA member being controlled by a villain and Batman wanting to have every angle covered?

I still don't know what was so terrible about Daredevil. The playground fight scene was stupid and the character in general is kind of lame but no more than Thor or most of the X-Men.

Daredevil is inherently a lame character. Over the years he has had a bunch of good writers, though, but he's still the poor man's Hobo's Batman.

I thought the special effects to denote his "vision" was a nice touch. Elektra was poorly cast, but I thought Affleck was just fine. He at least had the right jaw for it. I even liked the Bullseye character. As I've mentioned before around here, I can't think of too many people in Hollywood to have the proper physicality to be the Kingpin, so, they didn't do too badly.

Now the Elektra movie, phew, what a stinker!

People like to hate on Ben Affleck?

I liked Ben Affleck's Matt

I loved Colin Ferrell's Bullseye

I grew to like Jennifer Garner's Electra... she's still not 'Electra' to me, but she could have played somebody else and I wouldn't have minded.

Michael Clark Duncan *is* Kingpin. When he isn't Jesus.

There should have been 3 or 4 sequels by now. As for Thor, I look at it the same way people look at Final Fantasy Tactics (Youtube of all places) and Disney's Beauty and the Beast (this board): a total deconstruction of how people expect heroes and villains to play out, and what happens when what we're told we're seeing isn't really what we're seeing.

/yes, the playground scene was retarded

Colin came off as overconfident schoolyard bully, lines dripping with cheeze by-product, cheese like, but not even that good.

That's all fine and well for Batman the TV series, but this wasn't that movie. He didn't have the quality of acting to even make the really bad batman movies along side Jim Carrey and Ahnold. Seems to me he took an easy role and made a paycheck by playing out a common enough stereotype.

Electra was, meh. She wasn't built for the role, to me. Sure she's got the typical gaunt female comic book face, but in general her face is more sweet and kind, he "hard" look was just as ludicrous as was Colin's Bullseye.

/not a comic book reader as it were
//they could be great castings based on characters with no depth, but imo, they break the movie's flow

Um.....that may be due to the kinds of accounting games Hollywood studios play to avoid taxes, boost profits, and screw anyone on the payroll who was stupid enough to sign on for shares of the profits.

The studios are broken up into different companies -- say Zap Studio is making a film. The rent the cameras and film equipment from Zap Equipment Rentals, the props from Zap Properties, effects work from Zap Effects, and so on, often at grossly inflated prices. This money shows up on the production's books as expenses when in reality it has just been shuffled off to different parts of the same conglomerate. They release the film, it fails to break even based on this inflated sum, and the studio writes it off as a loss, when in fact they have come out ahead.

FeedTheCollapse: wasn't there a Batman script written by Darren Aronofsky where Batman was some kind of crazed homeless guy?

Yes. Co-written with Frank Miller. To be directed by Aronofsky. Pre-production had just started when the execs at Warner Bros. pussed out had second (and third and fourth) thoughts about what would no doubt have been a hard-R Batman flick and hired Nolan. Supposedly a very few of the ideas from the Aronofsy/Miller script were integrated into Nolan and Goyer's script for "Batman Begins" but (as much as I'd love to) I've yet to find a copy of the Aronofsky/Miller script to read so I can't say exactly how how true that is.

While I've no substantive complaints about what Nolan did with the franchise (and anticipate "The Dark Knight Rises" as no other film in the offing), I'd love to visit the alternative dimension where the Aronofsky/Miller film did get made just long enough to be able to see it.

Superman is constantly holding himself back because he's afraid of killing people. He was brought up that killing is wrong, so he tries his damnedest not to. He's also constantly underestimating his opponents, which winds up with him getting his shiat kicked in. When he fought the Joker, the Joker stole a chunk of kryptonite, made himself an aerosol spray, and inserted that into his squirting flower.

Superman's weaknesses are some of the easiest ones to exploit. Also, if you got someone like Deathstroke, Superman wouldn't have a chance in hell of winning.

I just thought of a version of Superman they haven't done, but might just be both surprisingly cheap to make and artsy enough to draw people in, while revolving around character and plot rather than CGI effects.

Now I have to go paste what I was originally going to post here into Evernote and flesh it out a bit.

Oh, and, from what I've read, Christian Bale was Aronofsky's choice to be the Batman in the film that wasn't.

Apparently they were in major talks and Bale was reportedly about to sign on when Warner's pulled the plug on the project.

It was my nerd gene kicking in... I've posted the World of Cardboard video here dozens of times whenever anyone says that Superman is boring, lame, or weak.

It was awesome for Timm/Dini to show Superman pushing his limits... in the movie world all he seems to do is prevent Luthor from committing land swindles, which could probably be done better by Matt Murdoch.

Greatly ignores that Batman has used Kryptonite gloves with which he used to beat Superman. As said before, Superman ignorantly believes in the better of mankind as a whole and does not see that Batman, being the goddamn Batman, has thought of ways to defeat Superman from the moment they met.

It's cute, but given the mythos, Batman is no chump to just allow Clark to hit him without some plan in mind. Not saying that Superman couldn't win, but the win in itself would be a pyrric victory at best.
