As Jake "The Snake" Roberts is to the 1980s, Scott Hall is to the 1990s. Wrestlers of their time will collapse and die all around them, but somehow, year after year, they'll stay alive.

I think I'm gonna skip this. I've seen several video clips of him going on psychotropic rants and getting into it with fans at those "conventions". I liked Ric Flair. The article on grantland was sad but interesting.

This guy....I feel it's best to just slowly back away.

ESPN? Airing something a bout a pro wrestler?!?

BUT WRASSLIN AIN'T A SPORT!!! WHAARRGARBL! GNASHING OF TEETH! ENTERTAINMENT TAB NETWORK!

But seriously... no matter why he did it (reaction to the murder suicide of he who shall not be named), Vince does offer rehab to all current and former employees, on his dime. IIRC, Hall has even taken him up on that offer once or twice.

Hell, if he could get clean, and prove he was reliable, there's a spot probably waiting for him right now in WWE, along with the rest of the Kilq. But, there are probably too many people around him who will give Scott Hall a free ride and pass because of who he was. So he'll never hit rock bottom hard enough to have to get clean.

So true. Hall seems to be getting worse though, with his multiple hospitalizations. Is this the same event when he got out of the hospital earlier that day, and was so out of it he thought he was in England instead of New England? I saw a fan video of that on youtube, and it really bummed me out. Interesting that they seem to have interviews with him clean, which I haven't seen in a while. I will definitely take a look at this. I'm a huge fan.

Pretty sure Hall did himself. At the time, stories of his heavy drinking had already started leaking out of the backstage. Hall was just playing off those stories (which would have been fine if he, you know, sobered up). Of course, when he started showing up to bookings actually drunk, the whole thing just became sad. I immensely enjoyed watching Hall work in his prime (even though that usually meant I'd have put up with Kevin Nash's lazy ass in the bargain)

Legends of World Class Championship Wrestling every afternoon at 4pm. (Jimmy Garvin / Chris Adams is still one my all time favorite fueds. You never forget your first.)

But seriously... no matter why he did it (reaction to the murder suicide of he who shall not be named), Vince does offer rehab to all current and former employees, on his dime. IIRC, Hall has even taken him up on that offer once or twice.

He started doing it before then. He even paid/helped pay for a couple of the WCW guys (including Hall, I believe) to go through rehab.

Supposedly he also suffers from a form of PTSD so it's more than just waiting for him to hit rock bottom. The drinking may be a symptom as much as it is the problem. The worst thing for him might be to try to resume his career in some fashion.

Most dispicable thing I think I ever saw on the WWE was Stone Cold pouring beer on him prior to WM18. I barely drink but I found that ten times more disturbing than the Katie Vick skit or anything that popped out of Mae Young (including bits of Mae Young).

I believe the policy is if you ever worked for WWE, then you are eligible for the free drug rehab.

Vince had helped out various wrestlers before, notably Steve Regal and Eddie Guerrero. But Guerrero and Regal were employees at the time. I don't recall if he helped out any non-current employees before '07.

But, the "all current and former employes" WWE Rehab policy began in September '07, just a few months after the pillow incident.

Dumb story bro time:
Remember going to a show in the early 90s.. don't remember what the schtick was called, but there were people wearing black monk type robes with the hoods pulled up carrying something(or escorting someone) to the ring all the time, and I remember peeking down from the walkway into the hoods and seeing Razor Ramon and Tatanka in the robes and it made no sense to me because the people in the robes were non-combatants and you weren't supposed to know who they were(they may have been escorts for Paul Bearer's Undertaker when DiBiase also had an Undertaker). The fact that it made no sense to me as a ~10 year old sticks with me to this day. Well, that and the Lex Luger autograph on my program.

I love the fWc 4-life but good gravy this Scott Hall business makes me sad. I was obsessed with wrestling from 1991-2002, and still love it. Scott Hall was a big part of that and I give my kids daily Jackknife powerbombs and Razor's Edges still.

Also, those assholes were HELPING HIM INTO THE RING. They knew damn well he was in no condition to be there, and did nothing about it. It's Hall's own fault more than anyone's that he has become this, but stuff like that just makes matters worse.

This whole thing with Hall is just depressing. Even more so than Flair. Back in the day the boys drank and did some gimmick while on the road. The difference between then and now, for the most part IMO is that the product over the last 15-20 years has the workers taking more and more bumps and the crazier elements, hence the widespread use and subsequent abuse of painkillers combined with booze and other drugs. We've seen it with major guys and indy guys alike.

My first time seeing Scott Hall was his AWA run with Curt Hennig. I think he had a run in Florida or maybe the CWA before he went to New York. I remember laughing my ass off as a smarky ass smark seeing him as Razor Ramon in the vignettes prior to his debut. I was reminded on how good of a worker he was when he got back into the ring albeit under a gimmick I saw through.

Hall needs to call Vince and complete the program. And be serious about it. I watched the trailer on Keller's website. God damn was that sad.

2011-10-14 09:00:17 AM
DaFlava737: Is this the same event when he got out of the hospital earlier that day, and was so out of it he thought he was in England instead of New England?

God that's a sad story. Pro Wrestling is such a cruel business.

The story of Flair and his divorces and money troubles saddens me so much. I know it's almost entirely his fault, but still, you hate hearing that.

2011-10-14 11:37:37 AM
Lot of wasted talent with Hall, pun intended. Even if he cleaned up...I think he has a defibrillator/pacemaker implanted. I'm surprised he's still alive.
