Let's not forget that this man truly believed he could save money simply by eliminating earmarks.

So, he wants to abolish our free trade agreements?

I could swear I just read that something like two-tenths of one percent of the layoffs since Fartbongo took office cited corporate regulations as the reason behind them. That bastard.

so
could you please name a regulation and how many jobs would be created if we repealed it?

yes, the obvious regulations which I can think of are offshore drilling for oil and gas.
strip mining would probably add some jobs.
being able to frak without worrying about clean air and clean water acts. oh wait, they can already do that.

Certainly we need to get rid of more banking regulation, the sec and Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

we need MORE ENRONS!!!

Billions and billions?

2011-10-13 06:04:07 PM
Politicians are used to talking in millions/billions/trillions. A slip of the tongue for one letter difference doesn't mean anything. This is no different than Obama saying he visited "47" states, but you usually think "50 states," and combining them to 57.

That said, McCain should, however, be ridiculed due to thinking that even "m"illions of jobs are affected in this manner.

Or maybe companies aren't hiring because their customers have no money to purchase goods/services with. I guess we'll never know. Let's cut taxes for the top 1%!

You want a regulation eliminated, tell us EXACTLY how many jobs it will create. Show your work. Then if you don't create that many jobs or more in a set amount of time it goes back in place.

If someone is out of a job because the EPA outlawed whatever it is they do for a living, maybe that person shouldn't make their living spraying children with coal dust.

Thank you. I made myself a mental bet that someone would bring up "57 states" in under 20 comments.

If Republicans don't believe in science, how can you expect them to believe in evidence?

As the article pointed out, the numbers are about 2 tenths of one percent.

Our problems are solved!!!

We should have tax payers pay for cleaning up the messes corporations make, not them being responsible for their own actions - It's the Republican way!

It's not even that simple. I don't give a shiat how many jobs would be created by allowing factories to dump toxic chemicals into our rivers or by eliminating safety regulations on auto manufacturers. We have those and countless other regulations because they are vital for a civilized society. If all we care about is how many jobs we can create, we have truly lost our way.

Can't find an article just about that, but they mention it here (new window).

"Labor Department data show that only a tiny percentage of companies that experience large layoffs cite government regulation as the reason. Since Barack Obama took office, just two-tenths of 1 percent of layoffs have been due to government regulation, the data show.

Businesses frequently complain about regulation, but there is little evidence that it is any worse now than in the past or that it is costing significant numbers of jobs. Most economists believe there is a simpler explanation: Companies aren't hiring because there isn't enough consumer demand."

Shocking.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, demonstrates the modern American Liberal mindset: all activity should be prohibited, and all economic gain should be in the control of the government, unless and until a team of experts can be convinced of the utility of allowing particular conduct or wealth accumulation. Oh, and if that team later on decides that it was wrong about the utilitarian nature of allowing people to do or own things, it will rescind its prior order.

I have great contempt for this viewpoint, but less contempt than its adherents have for the people.
