So they're going to throw the Tea Party under the bus? Along with the rest of us? Let me get some popcorn...

2011-10-13 01:28:50 PM
But I thought raising taxes on anyone was a horrible idea!? I'm so confused.

2011-10-13 01:38:48 PM
They are really running with that 47% thing huh? Why do they act like that 47% pay no taxes at all?

2011-10-13 01:42:11 PM
GWLush: They are really running with that 47% thing huh? Why do they act like that 47% pay no taxes at all?

Because it sounds better than the truth? This isn't hard.

GWLush: They are really running with that 47% thing huh? Why do they act like that 47% pay no taxes at all?

Because they like to lie and are batsh*t crazy.

2011-10-13 01:56:52 PM
....and the Teabaggers will line up to vote for them, because they have an irrational fear of Democrats.

2011-10-13 01:57:12 PM
Well, this thread was fun, but now I have nothing better to add than what's been said already.

GWLush: Why do they act like that 47% pay no taxes at all?

Because facts are inconvenient and math is hard.

pudding7: But I thought raising taxes on anyone was a horrible idea!?

It is, when "anyone" means "people who are wealthy, like Republican politicians".

2011-10-13 02:22:20 PM
This won't work because Fox won't tell them that Cain's plan would increase their taxes.

2011-10-13 02:28:33 PM
This will work just fine.

After all, their base believes that having the very latest Dale Earnhardt Jr. commemorative plate (where he's wearing the DIET Mt. Dew hat) on display means is automatic membership in the 1% so you can just suck on THAT Clovis down what for the Tractor Supply who still has that shameful Bud #8 magnet on his Ramcharger!

2011-10-13 02:51:55 PM
The whole GOP platform is Increase the cost of government through privatization and shift that cost onto the poor and middle class. If you are middle class and vote republican you are not paying attention or you care more about "sticking it to the libs" whatever that means, than your own money.

2011-10-13 03:18:45 PM
I heard Beck say this same bullshat this morning. Only he wasn't even honest enough to label it "income taxes," and just made it sound like all taxes.

2011-10-13 03:18:51 PM
No, they aren't. Anyone receiving the "earned income tax credit" isn't paying enough, for example.

2011-10-13 03:23:57 PM
impaler: I heard Beck say this same bullshat this morning

what a loser

Wasn't the EITC championed by conservatives for years as a great way to get folks off of welfare? Wasn't it passed by Republicans, and expanded by Reagan in his tax reform act?

2011-10-13 03:27:09 PM
dkendr: No, they aren't. Anyone receiving the "earned income tax credit" isn't paying enough, for example.

FTA:

And in an ironic twist, the phenomenon is almost entirely a result of Republicans' own enthusiasm for tax cuts. In the 1980s and 1990s, GOP lawmakers demanded that any programs aimed at helping poor and middle-income households be structured as refundable tax credits, like the Earned Income Tax Credit, rather than as direct payments like welfare. President Bush added to the trend by lowering marginal rates across the board.

I guess you would be happy if the people receiving the EITC quit their shiatty jobs and just go on welfare, right?

2011-10-13 03:28:26 PM
dkendr: Anyone receiving the "earned income tax credit" isn't paying enough

They also don't make shat, and actually do have a job. So you can't exactly call them free-loaders.

The Earned Income Tax Credit is "the best anti-poverty, the best pro-family, the best job creation measure to come out of Congress," according to Ronald Reagan.

2011-10-13 03:35:09 PM
dkendr: No, they aren't. Anyone receiving the "earned income tax credit" isn't paying enough, for example.

Because a single person making $13,448/year has so much spare money to blow on taxes.

2011-10-13 03:58:12 PM
Yikes, dkendr . That was embarrassing.

2011-10-13 04:01:05 PM
Now that is how you write an incendiary headline.

2011-10-13 04:02:09 PM
GWLush: They are really running with that 47% thing huh? Why do they act like that 47% pay no taxes at all?

Because poor people waste their money on luxuries like toasters and microwaves, so we should teach them a lesson by making them pay higher taxes.

2011-10-13 04:04:12 PM
I think the current talking point is that poor people need to "get more skin in the game."

2011-10-13 04:04:42 PM
So most teabaggers will have their taxes raised now... by the GOP? Why aren't they marching now in DC with their "Tex Enugh Alredy" signs?

2011-10-13 04:04:47 PM
GWLush: They are really running with that 47% thing huh? Why do they act like that 47% pay no taxes at all?

Because it keeps us fighting each other instead of the real enemy.

2011-10-13 04:05:12 PM
In recent months, nearly every major Republican candidate has name-checked a popular statistic that 47% of Americans who file taxes paid no income tax in 2009. Given the GOP's anti-tax zeal you'd think they'd be celebrating. Nope!

Ask a Republicans what percentage of Americans should pay taxes and their head will explode as they simultaneously think 0% and 100%.

2011-10-13 04:05:57 PM
Either we're the most taxed we've ever been, according to the teahadists, or half the country isn't paying ANY TAXES AT ALL.

Which is it, republicans?

2011-10-13 04:06:24 PM
As a poor person who receives a check from the government, I would just like to say...

xenophon10k: So they're going to throw the Tea Party under the bus? Along with the rest of us? Let me get some popcorn...

The weeping and gnashing of teeth from the TEA Party as they're forced to choose between higher taxes and voting Democrat is going to send me into orgasm.

If you are middle class and vote republican you are not paying attention or you care more about "sticking it to the libs" whatever that means, than your own money.

Anymore, I think it means something like this:

"If elected, I promise to shoot anybody of lower income or social status than you in both feet. But I'll only shoot you in one."

"YEEEEEEHA!"

2011-10-13 04:10:31 PM
That's because they're a bunch of assholes.

2011-10-13 04:10:33 PM
So will this send the Tea Party to the streets to join the OWS people?

Doubt it. They'll argue they are different and stand for different things. They'll argue a lot of things to make them appear different and special. They'll be wrong, but they'll argue it.

Talking about raising taxes on higher incomes: Class warfare!

Talking about raising taxes on lower incomes: NOT Class warfare!

Today's Republican Party.

impaler: dkendr: Anyone receiving the "earned income tax credit" isn't paying enough

The Earned Income Tax Credit is "the best anti-poverty, the best pro-family, the best job creation measure to come out of Congress," according to Ronald Reagan.

I qualify for the EITC. I work for a mega multinational financial corporation. I have not seen a raise in years, or a bonus, have watched my perks dwindle, my benefits become more expensive, and my company post profits, not just income, but profits, in excess of 600 million in this time.

I can barely afford my $800/mo rent, food for my wife and one (ONE) child, and a few minor luxuries LIKE A FRIDGE!!! And eating out at a restaurant only marginally nicer than the Olive Garden, once a month, if I am lucky and utilities aren't too much.

So, dkendr. State your goals clearly then you piece of shiat. You want everyone beneath a certain income level to be homeless and destitute, and then you want the homeless and destitue moved somewhere that you don't have to see them. Because guess what, shiatface -- that's the end result of this nihilistic pattern. That's the result of policies that erode the meager, extremely meager bullshiat scraps that poor farks like me are allowed to have at the end of the day.

Once day, we will be fed up, and will come for farks like you. Belive me, all your tea party rhetoric are not goingt o help you one goddamn bit against someone who has lost it all, someone who is so jjaded by the system that their anger, their hatred becomes all they know, and they come to exact their vengeance on someone just like you.

It's not how it should go down. We should proceed like human beings, we should proceed hand in hand, everyone striving to raise everyone else's standard of living. Instead, there are those who are determined not just to make life better for themselves, but to deprive everyone else of anything they possibly can. To claim because they aren't major players (in a system stacked heavily against people who are not alreayd major players) that they are somehow less deserving on compassion and empathy, that they are jobless soulsucking whores who want to enrich themselves on everyone else's dime.

There is a class in america and the world who fill that status perfectly: the 1%. They take all the money, steal it in some cases, deprive the rest of the people of the benefits of those funds. Many of them are jobless, but rich due to investments. Many of them exploit loopholes to gain money from the government, or deprive the government of money. And they use those funds to con poor sods like you into thinking you are worth a shiat to them, and turn people like you against people like me, while they sit in their ivory towers and laugh.

They're winning, but they have no concept of how fast, how hard this fight will come to their doorstep once the first shot is fired.

So, go to hell you pathetic piece of crap, and stay there until you realize that most of us "who aren't paying enough" simply don't pay enough because we DO. NOT. HAVE. THE. ABILITY. We don't have the income, and not for lack of trying, shiatstain.

Let's see how well that works out for them. Defending the rich is one thing because most people believe they already manage to skirt paying anything remotely fair -- it's another thing entirely to suggest that the vast majority of the voting population needs to pony up in their stead.

2011-10-13 04:16:55 PM
If you every here the expression "broaden the tax base", remember that is GOP code for raising taxes on the poor and middle-class while not touching the rich.

Well, they pay sales taxes to the municipality/county/state, federal taxes on their phone bill, federal and state taxes on gas, property taxes to the state either directly for owned property or indirectly through rent, and so on.

As much as we like to pretend that taxes are most important as a tool for social engineering, the fact remains that their primary purpose is to provide the government with funding. In a democracy, that means we're all hit by some of it, by virtue of everyone being a participant in the government.

2011-10-13 04:20:53 PM
The should DEFINITELY run on tax breaks for the rich and tax increases for everybody else. That will win the mother fark out of the election for them, I guarantee it.

The kinds of people who pay zero taxes are not the kinds of people who vote Republican. This is just being done to anger those of us who do actually fund the government to get out and vote.
