I pay for the guarantee. I don't like there being any doubt.

And by personal information, we mean your user ID. Doesn't get much more personal than "Honest Bender." I mean, if people knew I was Honest Bender...

I think they mean "adds". You know, like when you're a bunch of guys in public, and somebody manages to pull some chicks into the group, they got adds.

No clue what they mean by "clicking" though. Must be new street slang. I hope it involves bodily fluids somehow.

Even if you pay for Fark, aren't there still ads? So...you're paying to be the product?

People are starting to say that louder and louder...

Sometimes YOU aren't the product. In some cases, your ATTENTION is the product. In others, your feedback is the product. In worst cases, your private information is the product. Often it's a combination, but for most of the free things I use, my attention is the valuable thing I provide for the service.

As far as most websites know, I'm 85 years old, born in Nairobi, work at Ringling Brothers, and am named Goethe Helen Waite. As an early adopter, I opened a lot of free email accounts before the sites were asking for your phone number and shoe size.

If you put your real information in a website, you're asking for it.

Betcha that 61% doesn't include sites that don't keep customer information secure from their own employees or ones that don't use SSL for everything personal.
