When do we get a Perry Rule where officials behind executions of innocent people are forced to survive on death row by eating their own flesh, or forced feeding at a Waffle House?

Executed people have it too easy? I seem to be missing something here. Is this because once they've been executed, they get to lie around all day doing nothing?

I swear, the GOP has not one single redeeming value, and neither does anyone who calls themselves a Republican. Seriously you farks?

"There shouldn't be anything controversial about a .45-caliber bullet. If it were up to me we would just throw them off the Sunshine Skyway bridge and be done with it," Drake told the Current.

Seriously? Fark you. Fark every single one of you.

These morons do realize that the best way to keep the death penalty is to make it as painless as possible. The more violent the state makes it, the more there will be calls to end it entirely. Why do you think France went from having the guillotine to no death penalty at all?

If I were to be executed, and could choose between the chair, lethal injection, gas chamber, or firing squad, I'd take firing squad.

That many bullets hitting you is almost certain to result in a relatively fast, painless death. Traditionally it's also considered more honorable, particularly if you're allowed to stand. The other options not so much.

Of course, I'd really pick beheading if I could. Almost instant unconsciousness if performed properly due to massive loss of blood pressure to the brain. Alternately, you could try and blink Morse code to screw with people.

But really, we should adjust the gas chamber so that we asphyxiate people using nitrogen. Little chance of suffering (if your body can disperse carbon dioxide, which you can in pure nitrogen, you shouldn't feel like you're suffocating), non-toxic, inexpensive.

It also avoids the medical ethics problems inherent in lethal injection...which uses a stupid combination of chemicals in any case.

I wonder if super Brad is one of those TP twits that carries the constitution in his pocket where ever he goes. Perhaps he should pull it out and try to actually understand what he is reading.

WTF Indeed: the guillotine

The guillotine looks nasty, but from what I've read the chances of the victim suffering much are minimal.

Ever stand up too fast and have your vision gray out from low blood pressure? Imagine that a hundred fold. You'd probably be out in less than a second.

The real problem with it was how brutal it appeared regardless of how painful it may or may not have been.

I agree on the firing squad. Gotta stand there with no blindfold and an unfiltered cigarette hanging off my lip. Last words can't be pithy, need some epic win snark. And a last meal of rusty nails and broken glass with some antifreeze to wash it down. Lethal injection is for pussies

Yes, but I put a one-syllable word on either side of it, which negates the three syllables. Like drinking a diet soda after eating Oreos.

God help his soul, the man sounds like a sociopath. A Human should show no pride or lust for killing another human being. The system is flawed, and innocent people die from it. We should be dialing it back and abandoning it like other civilized nations, and not trying to make it even more gruesome.

Traditionally, only one randomized member of the firing squad has a live round. Hope he doesn't miss.

I've often wondered why we don't do this too. It's supposedly (I confess, I haven't personally tried it...) completely painless. Cheap, easy, painless... Why not use it? Ah, probably that last bit.... Gotta make them suffer some...

According to the Florida Current, the idea came to him in a local Waffle House. He reportedly overheard a constituent say that "they ought to just put them in the electric chair or line them up in front of a firing squad."

So that's how you reach the GOP. Everyone needs to start going to Waffle Houses around the country and saying things like "They ought to tax capital gains like ordinary income and use the revenue to fix our crumbling infrastructure."

There's one blank round, and all the shooters have to be volunteers--there is no regular execution squad. Plus I believe they all have to be certified marksmen, nobody gets to just show up and offer to be a shooter that day. The volunteer thing is so nobody can claim he was coerced or felt pressured into being a killer against his will; and the one blank round is so if anyone gets an attack of conscience later he can console himself with the thought that maybe he had the blank.

Supposedly, nobody ever knows who had the blank, even the warden--they load the rifles then mix them up before issuing them, and then mix them up again after confirming which fired the fatal shot(s). I don't know if that's true or not.

djkutch: When do we get a Perry Rule where officials behind executions of innocent people are forced to survive on death row by eating their own flesh, or forced feeding at a Waffle House?

It's so cute that people like you keep going on about how some 'innocent' guy was executed.

Dozens and dozens of people within the legal system are totally wrong and somehow, magically, the governor of the state is responsible for the execution... No the court, or the jury, or the legal system... Well, those don't have a nice face you can attach to them so there's nobody specific to hate, like say... A Republican governor in a state with economic policies that are working...

These policies are also known as 'the opposite of what liberals like'.

Let me restate, no innocent person has been executed in Texas or anywhere else in the United States... Or at least not within the last several decades. if there was even the slightest bit of truth 'innocent person executed' you wouldn't be able to turn on any news program from now until eternity without hearing about it all day, every day... But I'm sure the bits and pieces you've heard on the internet put you in a much better position to completely understand everything about the case in a much better fashion than the metric ton of people in the legal system who have had to examine the case dozens of times over many years, and concluded that guilt was not even in question.

Also there's just no way anti-death penalty advocates might possibly be presenting a biased view.

No clearly, after years and years and years of being examined by all kinds of legal experts and judges, they were all completely wrong.

While I know they make .45 carbines, traditionally it is a pistol round.

I suppose you could have a squad on pistol shooters, but I think Drake is tending more towards staging Monday Night Rehabilitation.

So maybe he more thinking of the other of another famous .45 caliber weapon.

The Thompson Submachine gun.

I can just picture the grin on Drake's face when the squad lights up the condemned at full auto.

oldebayer: Executed people have it too easy? I seem to be missing something here. Is this because once they've been executed, they get to lie around all day doing nothing?

Naah, it's usually a comparison/contrast to how the convicted person killed their victim. Usually they didn't give their victim a an overdose of heroin to get death row. It's more like they dragged their victim behind a pickup truck for an hour until their head was torn from their body. Or maybe the tortured and raped a little girl for a few days before suffocating her by stuffing her in a suitcase. Kinda seems that those people get off easy with an anesthetic.

I see no reason for the state to need to inflict pain in executions as it serves no interest and so lethal injection is just fine. Just speed up the process. At the same time, it's pretty obvious that compared to the crime these people committed, lethal injection is an easy way out. Those aren't opposing viewpoints.
