It's a pretty short piece of road to be named after a black dude.

I'd rather go hunting with Cheney than driving with Kennedy.

You know, making a mistake, owning up to it, and being thankful it wasn't a lot worse than it was vs driving drunk, ending up in a river, leaving a woman to drown, all to cover your own rear, and end up beloved by the left in spite of all of that.

Personally I would have gone with, "it's way better than the other proposed highways, but it sometimes meanders, and too often tries to force the left and right lanes to merge with terrible results." But that'd be me wearing my politics on my sleeve, unlike subby

Obama visited Orlando for two separate fundraisers on Tuesday, one of which was held at prominent attorney John Morgan's house in Heathrow.

An event as magical as any mono-rail.

With a headline like that, I was going to say it has to be a Rick Scott approval. 3,999,999,998,000 to a shill company owned by a family member, and 2,000 to actual road construction.

I'd rather go hunting with Cheney than driving with Kennedy.

You know, going hunting drunk in 2006, shooting one of your elderly friends in the head with a shotgun, going back to the ranch to down more martinis, refusing to let investigating officers talk to you until you sober up, and getting the guy you shot to apologize on your behalf, and having an entire right-wing media machine cover your tracks vs doing something regrettable and unfortunate forty farkin' years ago and then dying and still getting used as an excuse for right-wing fark-ups.

Are you sure you wanted to go there?

AmorousRedDragon: FTFA: "Dyer said 150 jobs were created in Phase I of construction, which cost $10.5 million. The city will hire 150 more workers when Phase II begins, he said."

With a cut of the ribbon by Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orlando city commissioners, the new 1.5 miles of roadway was opened and provides an alternate route to Interstate 4, John Young Parkway and Kirkman Road.

The Eastern Extension phase of the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) will extend the highway 9.9 miles (15.9 km) southeast to Interstate 30 through the cities of Sachse and Rowlett, meeting I-30 in extreme southeast Garland.(This was added to the definition of SH 190 in 2006.) The NTTA received environmental clearance in 2005 and construction began in October 2008, with completion scheduled for Q4 2011. The project will include a 1-mile (1.5 km) bridge spanning Lake Ray Hubbard. Costs estimates are anticipated to be $1.04 billion.

Am I missing something here? Is a bridge that expensive?

For a one-mile long span? Yeah, definitely. You're either building a pontoon bridge, which has some very special engineering challenges, or sinking a fark of a lot of pylons. When you see that they're building it across a reservoir, and so they have to take care of the water quality more than normal while construction is underway...

No doubt Subby would have preferred "Mrs. Subby's Vagina-Way" in honor of all the truckers and tourists that'll be passing through.

Eh that makes sense. Just seems excessive to spend a billion dollars for 9 miles of road and 1 mile of bridge, but then again a billion only gets you like half a B2 anyway nowadays.

Here's a good comparison: The Hoover Dam was completed in 1935 at a cost of $49,000,000, which was considered a fair bargain. In 2011 dollars, that translates to a little over $800 million, and it took five years to build, rather than the three that this bridge is taking. Engineering projects like this cost bucks. We weren't always afraid of that...

Eh, it had potential but wasn't used the best way. Maybe something like 'it constantly turns right' or something.

Ah yes. It banks ever so slightly to the right, but has "left turn ahead" signs every 50 feet. There's a constant effort to defund maintenance for it, which is rumored to cost $200 million every day. And it may have as many surveillance cameras as the road you were on before, but at least the ride isn't torturous.

/I heard the Ron Paul expressway is paved with gold
