At least there's a band for wanna-be goths who shop for music at Wal-Mart. I mean, we didn't have such a thing until Evanescence came along.

Why has Evanescence been getting the Nickelback treatment? I could care less but this seems like a recent phenomenon.

fark you all. Amy has a voice like liquid sunshine, she is incredibly hot, and the band has quite a few pretty damn good songs.

don't really get the problem with them.

Pretty Reckless are opening for them, and they're kinda rockin' my balls off these days.

From where I'm sitting, it seemed like they were getting the Matchbox 20 treatment.

I worked at a corporate music store once upon a time and the only two albums our store manager would ever let us play were some jazz bullshiat that no one liked and Evanesance. Needless to say, this band makes me want to throw things and hurt cute animals.

2011-10-12 02:58:49 PM
Also, I like Evanescence. They're okay. I wouldn't go buy one of their albums, but I don't change the station if one of their songs comes on.

You're not kidding. I like Lacuna Coil, and Chr... Cr... she can carry a tune, but I don't like the way her voice sounds.

Most of the stuff from that first album was high school music for me. Which means it gets turned up should I happen upon it. But yeah, no money needs to change hands in this relationship.

I like Evanescence. Of course, I base that on how I was in high school, since that was the last time they released something new.

I've only got the first CD, but that is a little true yes.

Still... I like that song(s), so I have no complaints. :)

Christina Scabbia? Yep. Like her. Like Tarja Turunen, and Sharon den Adel and Liv Kristine and ... Okay. So I'm like the most pop music lover of metal, but I don't care. Cause it's awesome. :)

Occasionally it's fun to try to remember back how you were introduced to a band. Lacuna Coil, who I've spent money on, was introduced to me via Kazaa. No recollection of what I was actually SEARCHING for (god kazaa sucked), but I ended up with a shiatty MP3 of My Wings. CHECKMATE, RIAA

yeah, i agree on that one. I like the one song "Closer" and that is about all the Lacuna I need.

jesus christ Scabbia is hot, tho.

I can dimly guess how I got to Lacuna Coil (boyfriend who liked death metal, etc etc), but my most smug memory is accidently (no, really!) leaving my CD in my best friend's car. I think six months later he emailed me to say that he was annoyed because he finally popped the CD in, and it was awesome and he hated when I was all superior and liked great stuff but didn't talk about it.

pretty sure the first time i heard lacuna coil was either rock band or GH. Ev i saw the vid for bring me to life by random and just about fell in love with Amy Lee. still love the cover of that first record.

That image, as a depiction of a female archetype, is a formative memory as far as I'm concerned. I'm not ashamed.

Ok it is a stupid pet peeve but it is a pet peeve none the less, but I hate it when people compare bands for the only reason there is a chic singer in the band. Yes there is usually a hot female singer, but the bands sound different. Lacuna Coil sounds nothing like Evanescence, and Lacuna Coil was never super heavy until Comalies came out, and then got influenced by American bands and kind of went to shiat after that. Also I am slowly liking Epica, it was hard for me to get into the band but damn Simon has a voice of an siren, and she is a ginger.

Which was that? My first CD was In A Reverie, so I'm not certain which you mean.

If you're refering to me, I just happen to like the sound contrast between a female singing voice and a male singing voice or heavy bass. Thus the list of singers you read off my post. :)

Rumor has it she will never again do a tour stop where I live (Eugene, Oregon). Apparently stoned out hippies are not her target audience, and she was less than happy with the audience's lack of enthusiasm for her.

I like their debut album. I think I might even have it on my ipod. But I won't go watch them play.

/Enslaved and Alcest played last night a couple miles from my house. Instead of going I a drank a sixer on the couch. Anymore, I really need super-motivation to go out and see a show. Even if I love the band.
//Will still check out $5 shows at local bars, though.

Not you, just in general. I remember when Evanescence got huge, and Best Buy had this if you like this band check out this band. They put Lacuna Coil next to Evanescence. I have been annoyed by that ever, because they do not sound anything a like. The only thing they really have in common is a hot chic in the band.

First Evanescence album was alright. A few good songs, mostly filler... but "a few good songs" is actually above average these days for an album. Downloaded the songs, but wouldn't really pay for them.

Nothing after that interested me enough to care listening to more than once though. I thought they had broken up honestly.

As far as I'm aware, they've done nothing to inspire Nickelback-level hatred in a reasonable person, however.

People actually listen to this CRAP? There are so many good bands out there but you listen to this corporate, spoon-fed, white boy shiat? Pro-tip: if you listen to something that could be used in an episode of Grey's Anatomy you have no taste, you have no soul, and you have no business posting about it on Fark. Go to some gayass Evanescence fan boi site you p*ssy.

And I know you'll say "Oh well here you are posting about it." Well this took the Internet equivalent of flipping you off in real life so I'm OK with that.

And I'm glad when I'm rocking out at the next Dave Matthews or Train concert I won't have to encounter your sorry ass.

Sorry to say this to you... but she is natural blonde. But that doesn't change the fact that she is extremely hot, and the best female metal singer. Its a shame that she sings in an awful band, but the best of her is in Xystus' Equilibrio, the last song (God of Simmetry) is excellent, the best song of her.

I only liked the first Evanescence album, but after the guitarrist left, its just another regular band.

wildstarr: Why has Evanescence been getting the Nickelback treatment? I could care less but this seems like a recent phenomenon.

Really? I remember them as pretty much always being derided. When I was in early high school, they were known as "that one Linkin Park clone band that has a female singer." This was back in 2003 when they started out.

mvpmiguel: and she is a ginger.

I know she is a bottle ginger, but she is still a ginger none the less since she only dyes her hair that color. The band is slowly getting better, I think they stopped doing death metal vocals. That really did no mesh well with her voice. The only time I ever seen that remotely work was when Cradle of Filth had Liv from Leaves Eyes did a song with the band.

I still haven't found a death/black metal voice that i like in a band with female vocals... within temptation did that too, in their first records, but was awful, they stopped doing it.

it took me years and years to pin down exactly why evanescence completely rubbed me the wrong way.
it finally occurred to me about half a year ago when i heard a song on the 90's station on XM - the song was marky mark's good vibrations.

Compare:

it's such a good vibration - come on, come on! - it's such a sweeet somethingorother c'mon, feel it, feel it!

wake me up inside - wake me up! wake me up inside can't wake up!

can't. be. unheard.

If it hadn't been for Evanescence, I would have never found Lacuna Coil. Which in turn led me to Nightwish, Leave's Eyes, Epica, Within Temptation, Edenbridge, and a few others.

I'm always looking for more artists like the above :P

Weird, my path was Sonata Arctica -> Nightwish -> Theatre of Tragedy -> Leaves' Eyes
and Stratovarius -> Edguy -> Avantasia -> Within Temptation

Evanescence sounds just like bland, post-Tarja Nightwish.

/check out Theatre of Tragedy's old stuff, Liv Kristine's awesome in it
//also Kamelot, Sirenia, Tristania
