One side of the mouth says, "I can still be black and Republican" while the other side is saying "I'm blacker than Obama!"

It's amazing his face doesn't fly off his skull.

Cain's statements may not play in the black community, but white conservatives eat that shiat up! He may still be black, but he's their kind of black.

Boortz interrupted Cain, saying he prefers the word "bigoted" to "racist."

How is it not incredibly cynical for him to assume he automatically has his race's support? Assuming to the point of public, conspicuous anger when straw polls (*snort*) show he doesn't have it?

Cain's Inauthentic Black

That's an incredibly racist statemen, Mr. Cain: claiming that there is only one kind of "black experience" in the USA? That recent black immigrants and their children are not authentically black? There is a great deal of black-on-black racism and xenophobia that doesn't get talked about--especially prejudice and discrimination against darker skinned black from lighter skinned ones. (new window). Cain's statement is precisely what underlies the reactionary TeaBaggers's hatred of Obama--his "foreigness." In their minds real Americans do not have a Kenyan father and a Kansas mother and they don't grow up in places like Hawaii and Indonesia and they don't know or mingle with people from different cultures or backgrounds--they are not COSMOPOLITAN.. Cain is just using a reactionary xenophobic black version of that provincialism. Of course that's a hit with the racists in the TeaBagger party.

Just FYI: JWP is a one shot troll that either works for Drew, is Drew, or simply has no life whatsoever. He has almost a thousand greenlights this year alone, and is likely responsible for the bulk of the troll headlines we see every day.

Backing up his posts is something he never does.

So, let me get this straight. Voting for Obama only because he's black - Horrible decision. Voting for Cain only because he's black - Right for this country. Is that what I'm being told here?

Yes, so long as you understand Cain claims to perform 'authentic Black-ness' as a part of 'authentic American-ness.' He's calling Obama inauthentically African-American as a way as saying he's inauthentically African-American.

Yeah, Herman Cain can't believe that black people would not support his 9-9-9 deal. He doesn't seem to believe most black folk are smart enough to know that plan would jack up their taxes and that it has nothing to do with delicious pizza (after all, he did preside of the downfall of Godfather's Pizza's food quality).

Exactly this. Calling the black community racist plays amazingly well with the Republican base. Being black, it's certainly easier for Cain to get away with it.

"Ok, bigoted," Cain said. "How dare Herman Cain, first, run as a Republican? How dare Herman Cain be conservative? And how dare he move up in the polls, so that he just might challenge our beloved Obama? That's the problem they have."

I understand that he's on a radio show, and that it needs to be entertaining, but that's farking disgusting. Why do politicians utilize strawmen so readily? Can't they argue based on the merits of their ideas? Is it a lack of faith in themselves? WTH?

Republicans do this all the time. They know there message will not succeed with the public so they make up these strawmen. Like the Idea Democrats want to make no government cuts. That's BS but the keep repeating all the time to make their position of no tax increases seem equivalent.

Well, you can be black and republican, there are plenty of them. Cain's weird-ass political positions have more to do with him being Herman Cain than being black, though. Dude's not raving mad or anything, but he's more than slightly oddball and more than a bit underinformed at times (well, OK, frequently).

You know, I'm getting sick of all the Cain/Pizza jokes spewed by liberal hatred. Imagine the outrage if the republican's made fun of what a democrat presidential candidate eats.

Calling anyone racist, for pretty much reason, isn't going to get them to support you. It's a very serious accusation in this culture: there are people who wouldn't generate a lot of controversy if they were called racist, but even they tend to spend a great deal of time and effort convincing themselves and others that they are not racist.

In the interview Tuesday, he also said that in a hypothetical matchup between he and President Barack Obama, there would "almost be no contest" and argued that he could talk about issues more in depth than Obama.

Well, sure.... As long as Cain can preface his verbal diarrhea with, "Now, I don't have any facts to back this up, but..."

This clown really has an overinflated sense of self-importance...

Somacandra: Yes, so long as you understand Cain claims to perform 'authentic Black-ness' as a part of 'authentic American-ness.' He's calling Obama inauthentically African-American as a way as saying he's inauthentically African-American.

There was a show on PBS some time back that dealt with genetic genealogy. One of the people in the show was a black professor who taught African studies. They did some DNA tests and it turns out that the professor had more European markers than African ones, which was surprising because the professor was very dark skinned and had strong African features. The expression on the professor's face when learning of this was priceless.

I bring this up because there is a good chance that Cain is mixed ethnicity as well. Many blacks in the Americas are, and sometimes you just can't see it like you can with Obama. Take the professor in the PBS show as example. So this whole "I'm blacker than you" game is stupid. It's like the pot calling the kettle gray.
